Having taken a bit of a break from MSTS for a while I thought I would start up again today. And as such I have done the nameplate from a B&W photo of 35007 'Aberdeen Commonwealth'
Its taken a while to get the nameplate there or there-abouts..... So here is a screenshot of it.   



And a head-on shot as as well;



Any thoughts please would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the kind words... Unfortunately I can't take credit for the loco as this is Danny's work (Dee4141). I have merely been going through the list of Merchant Navy's in Rebuilt form to do those and try them to release. I have been playing with all 6 today and noticed a couple of issues; which are now resolved. I will try to put in some consists for these when I have finished with this batch.
I can't see getting all of the missing ones done in time for release for Easter. So I will do in batches as and when time allows.
I will attempt to get a screenshot of all of the ones I have done on shed tomorrow at Bournemouth!   
I will try and get a self-installer done for them and hopefully they will be of use to some.... Lets hope this Dorset Coast steam route does appear some time in the future?? Be great to have these running out of Nine Elms down to Waterloo to pick up the stock Tender First! Just imagine the Act's that you could do!!
Anyway enough of my waffling on!!! I'm getting too excited at the prospect!!

I found a colour image, which looks remarkably like yours, but can't show it because I've forgotten how to include images on this Forum! I know the instructions are somewhere but can't find them and the search system doesn't throw anything up.

I wouldn't worry about that, we have all learnt patience especially as all proverbial good things are worth waiting for. Then there's always the likelihood of "June is MSTS Month 2"!

Hi Ged,
I will endeavour to post on how to upload images to the forum tomorrow in a step-by-step Guide! Basically you go to the top where the YouTube icons etc are... You go to the 3rd one on the left and if you hover with the mouse it shows 'Host an Image' then you select your file via the browse menu and select 1024 PX Width (wallpapers)
You then highlight the Image and select copy and then paste it in the section where you want to in your post.... Hope that makes sense? If not I will do a step-by-step guide tomorrow....

Unlike the other sim these will not cost a penny.

Thanks Ian! Look forward to seeing these.... I might have to think about another Activity with all these Bulleids for the Watersnake Route!

Andy, sorry to be "picky" .....the central disc of the nameplate looks fine but the horizontal "Merchant Navy Class" has a blue coloured "bleed" onto the red background. Maybe the original is OK but the screenshot is causing this effect?

Yes, you are right. Seems I've still got a little bit of work to do on the Nameplate. But I won't be doing it today as I'm still catching up from yesterdays last minute dash to go out and photograph and film 34046 'Braunton' on the Golden Arrow at Paddock Wood. I'm currently editing the video at the moment and I will post a link here once I have uploaded to Youtube...

Oh dear!! That doesn't look very good, does it?
I tried applying more saturation but the centre part, which should be white (or thereabouts) turns cream!
I think it's possible to get a graphics program to replace a given colour with another which would probably brighten it up and improve definition, but I'm a bit out of my depth!!

Well I decided to use some patience and do it all by hand and this is as far as I have got so far...... Only about an hours work so far editing the picture in Paintshop Pro..... But I think it's getting there.... Be Interested to hear everyones thoughts???? I must be mad, but when you want something you have to go for it!!! I can see me doing a lot this way!!!

Hi Andy,
Thought I'd try my hand at it, literally! I painted over the original red, after brightening the image up a bit (hence the peculiar colouring on the loco boiler!)  It was very labourous and my hand and eyes ached even after I'd done that bit!  I have a graphics pad somewhere - maybe it'd be easier with that.

Don't look too closely at it, please!   Should the beading and letters be a pale brass colour?

Hi Andy,
I can't see you getting it much better than that one,looks good to me I would go for it,with MSTS you are never going to get any thing 100% right.

As there is no sign of Dorset Coast Steam Route or even the Dorset Coast CD,could you do some activities for the New Forrest Route,it goes a fair distance well at least it has Southampton - Bournemouth, and once you are past Christchurch you can really open up and have a really fast run up to Brockenhurst.

Or at a push you could use the current Dorset Coast and set it in the last few years of SR steam,there are plenty of green EMU's in the library,that can give it a period look,it's only really Waterloo that is the problem having the Eurostar Platforms,just use plaforms 1-20,if you used this route there are the Ocean Lines Express Trains,some shipping companies even had their own dedicated train services the Union Castle line did,I think there is even a headboard in the library for it.

Thank You for doing the Merchant Navy class loco's I always liked the Rebuilt Paciffics.

Thanks Mike, I think you have given me some Activity Ideas for later on!! You definitely like to keep me busy!!   
I really must do some more work on this 444 Desiro and the 144 Center Car after I have finished doing these Merchant Navy renumbering and Re-Badging!! Also got to finish an Act off at some point for Dorset Coast.

Some times we would get the paddle steamer over to Swanage then come back by train.

I havé a list of loco's allocated to Bournemouth Shed around 1959 if that is of any use to you

I can remember that trains arriving at Bournemouth that split the front portion went forward to Bournemouth West hauled by the locomotive that brought it from Waterloo,after it departed a locomotive from Bournemouth Shed and backed onto the Waymouth Portion.
Trains going to Waterloo the first part arrived from Bournemouth West, the incoming loco ran forward under Holdenhurst Road Bridge then backed down and ran through the station useing the through road and went on shed.
In the meantime a M7 coupled onto the rear of the train and hauled it into the carriage line next to the shed,the Waymouth train then arrived,the M7 then pushed the carriages onto the Weymouth Portion.
After Coupling up the train left for Waterloo.if was wet the M7 would give it shove, to help it get going,the Bullieds were always slipping when starting.
The M7 were used on the Bournemouth to Brockenhurst trains via Ringwood usually M7 CCT Maunsell CK, then a Maunsell Brake 2nd with a driving cab.
Trains to Salisbury were hauled by T9
Bournemouth Weymouth trains normally BR Std 4 or 5 but sometimes a WC.

Thankyou Mike for all the locos etc in the messages that you have sent me. Very much appreciated. As soon as I can gather some ideas together for a later date and some of the stock currently available over on UKTS, I will most certainly get some Acts done.   
Now on to the 144 Centre Car. I believe this is now beginning to take shape especially now I have got some textures together! Be Interested to hear anyones thoughts on it? Currently a WIP still, plus I still need to work later on with the other liveries...
But currently going to use this one as a template and once I have done this with the external work correctly and then move onto the Internal work I will concentrate on the other liveries.

Hi, Is anyone able to supply me a list of which Merchant Navies, West Countries and BoB Pacifics were allocated to which shed and had the relevant Shed Plates on the Smokebox 1966/67?

According to Longworth in 1966 the BoBs were allocated to two sheds namely Salisbury(70E) and Eastleigh(70D).

34052, 56, 57, 59, 64, 66, 76, 79 and 89 were at 70E

34060, 71, 77, 82, 86, 87, 88 and 90 were at 70D

These were typically withdrawn between 1967 and 1968.

35016 - Lamport & Holt Line yet to complete, but hopefully I will have a pack of 10 Merchant Navies in my stock pack! This is turning out to be a time consuming job!....

About the best I can find is a Model of 35018 on the Internet, The link is http://www.anticsonline.co.uk/1737_1_1296741.html
Given that she was the first of the class to be rebuilt, I would have thought that there would have been some pictures of her
taken at the time.
I did once have haulage behind her, That was in August 1961 going on Holiday to Devon, The train was the Atlantic Coast Express
and we only called at Sidmouth Junction and Exeter Central where she was replaced by an Unrebuilt Battle of Britiain 34079.

I found CGW nameplates make a OO gauge nameplate for 35018 British India Line at £6.50. other than that I couldn't find any photo's of it in service,plenty of it as it is now at present it's at Carnforth.

Thanks Andy for the link. I need a close-up and head on image though. Glad you like what I am doing. I am also after 35021 'New Zealand Line' with a head-on shot. The only ones I can find of her are on google taken at odd angles at the Bluebell.
Also I don't suppose anyone knows what shed 35021 was at towards the end of her days?
Maybe someone has a book on Merchant Navies and there nameplate pictures and Shed-Codes somewhere??.....

Last Shed 70A Nine Elms for 35018 "BRITISH INDIA LINE withdrawn from there at the end of June 1964.
35021 "NEW ZEALAND LINE 70A still in service June 1964
These were condemed June 1964 from 70A Nine Elms 35002 "UNION CASTLE" and 35015 "ROTTERDAM LLOYD"

But at least I have completed 35022 'Holland America Line' now with my growing list!!



So that is now 10 completely finished. And 2 partly finished in the form of 35018 and 35021... Which means it is just 35024 'East Asiatic Company' left to do!!! Shouldn't be too hard......Should it? They say things come in 3's!! Lets just hope they don't this time???....

Hi Andy,
I just realized I have a Hornby Model of New Zealand Line in my glass cabinet,the base paint inside the circle is pale blue with the New Zealand Line Badge over it.

Using the perspective function in The GIMP, I ended up with this :

It's not right by any means, but at least it shows the colour of the centre. It might be possible to get it appearing more vertical, and to make the circles round!  It took me a couple of hours last night to get this far   
The "arms" are not complete in the original image, but I figured they could be copied from any other Merchant Navy nameplate.
