Re: Andy's Workshop
I have a super pic of a 12 car rake racing through Paddock Wood just before the end of South East steam services (June 1961) - it was a Charing Cross to Ramsgate service via Dover, and 1017 was leading. Another South East pic taken in May 1961 shows 1011 on a Hastings to Charing Cross service with an 8 car rake. Either of the these would do nicely please. Take your time Andy...

Could you do 1035 in either Blue\Grey for me please?
I have found another Hastings set they are 2 car units consisting of a Motor Brake Second and a Trailer 2nd L. Unit Numbers 1119-22.
They were in service in 1961,I have a Photo of 1121 at Hamstreet and Orlestone,it would be something different.
Mike
Mmm ...... please remember that 1001 is a short wheel base 6S set, whilst 1035 was a long wheel base buffet 6B set - some 6'6" longer! 1119 to 1122 were 2 car sets(2H) and were not slab sided!

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi Alec
I thought 2H were Hampshire Sets, but my book said they were Hastings sets,Andy I will leave it to choose a number for the Blue\Grey unit.
To tell the truth I lost interest in railways after steam finished on the Southern Region,as I was working for a airline by then.
I became more interested in aircraft until I worked for SAR in the 70's, steam was well used by them.

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi all,
With no photos out there of DEMU Buffet Cars and only of Power Cars and TSO's I have found one that is still in existence in form of what was a DEMU Buffet car.
Does anyone have any photos please from both sides?
Anyway I enclose a shot I have rigged up into a BMP format file that should hopefully be correct?
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,
If you did 1031 in Blue\Grey instead of 1035,there is no need to have a buffet car, the buffet car was removed from the set in 1963. the buffet car was replaced by a TFK down graded to a TSK.

HI Mike,
Thank the lord for 'Face-ache' and having joined the 'Thumper Group' last night. Have been pointed in the direction of this? So it would appear my .BMP file isn't far off?
Here are the links for anyone interested?

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi all,
Not a great deal of activity to report. I've been concentrating and being a pain to poor Justin. Trying to be too much of a perfectionist I think.
Firstly, does anyone have any drawing or photos of a Hastings DEMU Buffet car Interior please? I believe I have the shape and windows etc showing correctly now as in the next shot;
I've done some work on the Green and the Blue & Grey Power Cars also as well as the TSOL Coach;
Enjoy!
Thanks
Andy

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi Andy and everyone,
Firstly a great big Thankyou to Andy for the email and the photos. Will certainly be a great help, when I get round to finishing the DEMU off completely.
Also since yesterday I have been working on the Internal fixtures and fittings etc of the DEMU. Still some texture work to do, but have a look and see what you think? I'm really pleased with the results so far;
Cheers

Hi all,
Thankyou so much for all the replies and positive feedback. Learnt some new tricks today with thanks to Justin's help. I've done a bit more work on the Interior.
Thanks for the email Andy. Those new attachments are really going to help.
Here is another Internal shot! Not like Clapham Junction in the Rush Hour! But at least we are getting there with it!

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi all,
1001 has been brought out temporarily from the Workshops on a small test run. Here she is early morning at Waterloo East
It's been great to have a play with her. Now she must go back into the workshops for some serious painting and Texturing in some areas.... Got to get a few things working and some other bits right. Managed to resolve the Corridor connections (I think). Going to try and bring the Pipes up between the coaches so that they meet (helps with Braking amongst other things) ;-)
Cheers

Re: Andy's Workshop
She is continuing to get close... A shot today after some more work...
Really enjoying this and although I want this done, I want to make this as close to the real thing as possible. Ignore the bogies on the Blue & Grey set at the back of the shot, these haven't been done yet.
Got some work to do on the Internal for the Buffet, so if anyone has any photos please, would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,
They are looking good and can't wait to run them I think I will have to put LSE back onto my computer, unfortunately I cannot help with the buffet car,as my Southern Reference books don't include the MK1 coaches.
When I was into model railways I managed to get a book on MK1 coaches from the library,it had pictures and scale diagrams of them,it might be worth trying your local library.

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi Andy.
Why dont you try contacting the Hastings Diesels ltd website?, there might be someone that has drawings.
Just type in Hastings Demu's.
Those photos that I sent you, one of them was of the interior of the buffet coach, it looked to me
that there was a sliding door that seperated the buffet bar which was at one end of the coach.
Sadly the buffets were withdrawn fairly early, the only two that survived were heavily modified,
one as a APT laboratory test coach, the other one became The Southern region General managers
saloon TDB 975025 now in general use answering to the name of Caroline.
Your units are looking very good.
Cheers (And hope this is of some help

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi Mike & Andy,
Thanks for the replies Gents. Much appreciated. I have been unable to find anything on the Hastings DEMU Buffet car's layout.
Mike are you saying the layout is or should be exactly the same as a Mk1 Coach Buffet car layout? If it is, do you know where I can find a picture from the corridor end?
Andy, thanks, I did look at the picture you sent me but not sure if it is midway (the sliding door) between the "Passenger one stop café" to the serving desk (So to speak). Looking at the layout of the windows it looks vaguely like the sliding door is midway...Â
I have emailed Hastings Diesels prior to writing this, so lets hope they can help me out? Or failing that it will have to use the Interior of a Mk1 Coach..... Perfection will then be ruined!! Â ha ha....
Thanks once again
Andy

I see that the excellent progress has been made, and like others look forward to their release.
Of course once the three TOPS classes are finalised then it must be remembered that the scope for additional consists is of great interest as can be seen in the list below:-
I look forward to seeing both the short framed 201(6S) and long framed 202(6L) and 203(6B) plus the variations that BR(SR) used during their lifetime.
Thanks

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi all,
With Dave Robinson's (TwoManyDjs) Permission and with a break from modelling the DEMU and whilst I wait for Justin to come back to me on a couple of issues, I plan to get something uploaded to UKTs today. I have redone one of his Bulleid Pacific's as 34056 'Croydon'. Comes with a ready to run consist and has been checked and tested as well.
One of my favourite locos from the runs (Videos) and from the stories I have heard. A shame she wasn't preserved as by all accounts a fantastic engine to work on. So my piece for MSTS June... Â
Thanks
Andy
P.S - I have renamed the title of the thread.

Hi Andy,
That is a fine screen shot brigs back memories of school holidays in the 1950\60's,looks like it has just come off the Weymouth Portion of a Up train, and is going forward and then reverse through the station and going on shed.
I see the Trolley bus looks like one of the ex Brighton and Hove four wheelers, probably on route 26,wouldn't it be nice to have one of the Bournemouth Corporation Leyland PD 2, I can remember them on the no 2 Route.it would make a change from all the Bristols, that are available.

Hi Mike,
Thanks. I was quite 'Chuffed' with that screenshot too, hence posting it. It brought a sense of realism to the Sim. Being a Bulleid lover (can you tell from all my uploads) I have wanted to do what I can for so long. Hence rebadging Dave's Bulleids to 34056 'Croydon' and the Activities and with Clanlines Support Coach, I think you get the gist of my love of Southern Steam. My Father was a Nine Elms Engineman and then went to Victoria and then to Tonbridge before eventually retiring. I was a volunteer as a fireman on the Midhants Railway until I was made redundant from my job.
Without Justins help and advice and what I have learnt so far I would never have imagined doing something like this for the sim. Still have my biggest project yet to finish off in the form of a Hastings DEMU set, with a lot of scope (I believe) for other simmers to put whatever consist they want together.
Netherless, I'm really enjoying doing something different as I do learning all new things...
AAC 34049 has now been accepted and is ready to be downloaded.
Thanks
Andy

After doing those 2 Bulleids, I thought it was best to get back to my Hastings DEMU set. Been going tooth and Nail today on some more texturing....
I have started work on the TFK and done the lettering and Numbering. Also added some headcode detail. The pictures should be pretty self explanatory...
Cheers

Thanks Mike,
It doesn't have to be an image of a Hastings DEMU Buffet storage racks, it can be of a MK1 Buffet coach or something equivalent.
Thanks anyway.

I searched for a similar thing without success.
Best I could do is the bottles in my Light railway buffet.
Use them if you want.
You could also photo the sandwich self in the supermarket.

I'm impressed with the level of detail you are providing with this model. As a last resort you could of course use the picture that you have and measure the visible elements and knowing the dimensions that you have already used create a scaled version - might not be 100% but as we all know MSTS is built on compromise.

Looks really good Andy.
Are you going to set up a passenger view inside the buffet car? it would be a shame for you to do all that work and no one see it close up.
You could still set up passenger views for the other carriages as MSTSBin will allow you to choose which carriage to view the passview in.
