Thanks Mark!Markh5682 wrote:Looks really good Andy.
Are you going to set up a passenger view inside the buffet car? it would be a shame for you to do all that work and no one see it close up.
You could still set up passenger views for the other carriages as MSTSBin will allow you to choose which carriage to view the passview in.
I'm planning on doing Passenger Views for the TSOL (which currently there is), TFK and the Buffet car as well as the T/Wells DEMU Power Car.
Just a question, how does MSTSBin work with my current set? Do I need to put something in the .Eng and .Wag files for this to work, or does MSTSBin just work with anything?

Re: Andy's Workshop
MSTSBin will work with anything, you can add extra things to the .eng file that are bin specific such as lighting but they won't work on a non bin set up.
MSTSBin automatically detects which pieces of stock have the passview line in them and will allow you to choose which one to use.

Looks fine to me too. Are you planning a green version without the yellow panel?

Re: Andy's Workshop
Danny,
Are you just wanting one with a completely green front? If so, I don't see that would be a problem, the trouble is where do you stop as with the Hastings DEMU sets, you can pretty much keep going??
I have even seen one done in red/Maroon before now, just unable to find it at present.

Re: Andy's Workshop
Their very first livery in BR multiple unit green had a plain green front, acquiring small yellow panels circa 1964 Several went to blue livery with small yellow panel and an odd one had full yellow. 1037 carried a full yellow front whilst in green livery. The majority went from green to blue-grey with full yellow front.
I am not aware of any unique liveries, but I will continue to look.
This book might be worth getting

I have one on order for my library.

Sounds like somthing fron the fictitious liveries web site.
Certainly no Southern region DEMUs were painted in anything other than Green, Blue or Blue/Grey.
Although of course some of the the 3 car Hampshire and Oxted units were repainted into Network
South east and Connex liveries later on.

I think it is the way that MSTS handles contrast especially in greens making them almost black in shadows, here is the same shot with just a quick change in the trains contrast done in PSP, no colours or brightness were changed.

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi Andy.
Looking VERY NICE, Really looking forward to your sets of Hastings Thumpers, especially the green ones.
How many different versions are you going to do? There is distinct possibility of my Making tracks London Southeast
(original version) being brought into use again.
Now did I dream it, or did you at some point ask about headcodes.
22 is of course Charing Cross to Hastings.
33 is Cannon Street to Hastings. Only used I belive, foe Morning and evening Comuter trains.
There were also Weekend Charing Cross to Ramsgate workings via Dover which carried headcode Black blank 4.
Mike has previously mentioned about 2 car DEMUs, These were Hampshire units 1119-1122 and were used exclusivly on the Ashford
Hastings via Appledore and the Appledore to New Rommney Branch.
When the latter closed, units 1121 and 1122 were transferred to Eastleigh to work the Southampton Ternimus to Alton service.
Hope this is of help.
Cheers

Re: Andy's Workshop
Mark,
Does annoy me that the colour Green doesn't always show up correctly! Even when you know you've got it right! But hey-ho; all part the parcel.
Andy,
Thanks for the comments. I have stopped making any more .Eng and .Wag Variations for now, as I think there is enough with 3 to keep everyone busy!
There is
1001 - In Green as Preserved with Tunbridge Wells Motor Coach, Hastings Motor Coach and also Mountfield Motor Coach.
1007 - As requested by Danny (Dee4141) done in complete Green Front.
1035 - Requested by Mike (I believe) in BR Blue/Grey Livery.
TFK Coaches - Done in Blue/Grey and in Green Livery
Buffet Coaches - Done in Blue/Grey and in Green Livery.
TSOL's - Short and Long Variations
All coaches are numbered and have Passenger views.
I think that is about it? Pretty much covered.

Re: Andy's Workshop
Getting a good shade from the PSP colour picker is difficult.
There is another way - blending.
To make a shade of green, fill an image with Yellow.
Make duplicate layer and fill with dark green.
Then slide the layer transparency so some of the yellow shows thru.
This will give a range of greens as you move the slider.
The same effect can also be achieved using the gradient fill tool.

Latest update is that I think I'll be releasing about 6 Hastings DEMU Units....
1001
1004
1007
1019
1035
And one that the Units never went up to 1066 ("Battle of Hastings").....

With thanks to Dave Robinson (TwoManyDJs) he has allowed me to repaint one of his models. Here is 60163 'Tornado' in BR Purple (Yes you read that right!)
From news from Graham Langer of the A1 Trust it would seem that 'Tornado' is due to go in this livery at some point soon. Here is the photo he has uploaded to Facebook;
And here she is in the flesh on MSTS;
Enjoy

Hi Andy,
I do like the look of 1066!! Similar, but not quite the same, as the old Derby Corporation trolley buses, for which I have a very soft spot
Apologies for my ignorance of things Southern, but is that a legitimate livery?
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,
Legitimate in terms of MSTS... It is a Pullman type livery with a Battle of Hastings Sign on it. Hence 1066!! (Never done in the real world)
It's mine and Justin's take on something that should have been done and looked pleasing to the eye, being a "Hastings DEMU" set.
Cheers

Looking good Andy
Despite its age the LSE route is still one of the better routes for MSTS, and your Hastings DEMU sets are a perfect match for the route.

Well I don't usually get excited about downloading trains (as they never seem to work for me ) I must admit to looking forward to having a bash at these, they look great. Will they come (please ) as a complete item and easy to install, that's the question.Anyway I will have to dust of my LSE which is a great route and be ready for their introduction.Keep up the good work.,many thanks
Roger
Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the comments! To Roger's (Neanderthal) question regarding they will come as a full set of 6 with Consists already done and with an Installer as well.
I'm still testing them currently, but so far so good. I will try and get Justin to give them all a test and all being well should be released early October!
I have a few plans for some others later on, but will mostly concentrate on a couple of Activities and working with Justin on some new releases (Together!)
Another update to the Act at Tonbridge and I have already done a lot further down the line on the Activity for Actober;

Re: Andy's Workshop
There was a same livery for one of the member's fictional company called TGBVR a while back, but I don't think you get anything like that anymore. In real life, that sort of livery was used on West Highland MK1's during the 1980s. I think it is used elsewhere as well.
By the way, it is nice to do a Class 202 and 203, as well as the shorter Class 201s. Have you heard of the Class 206 "Tadpole" units?
Cheers

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi Alistair,
I completely forgot about the Class 206 Tadpoles until you reminded me. They consisted of a Hastings DEMU power car and coach with an EPB or a HAP Trailer car on the back and only consisting of a 3 coach train?
I won't be doing these though as you should beable to create a consist using my DEMU Units (Once Released) and incorporating MT's units if required.
Thanks for the Interest though everybody! I've enjoyed doing these. It's been frustrating at times likes all new things you learn! But have been glad of the help and support and patience from Justin all the way through!
Hopefully my next model will be an easier one!
Best Wishes
Andy

Re: Andy's Workshop
Hi Guys,
Perhaps I should explain where I got the ideas for the special “Battle of Hastings” livery from:
The colours (which are Southern Railway Bulleid Malachite Green, Pullman Cream with Southern Railway Sunshine Yellow lettering) were inspired by the LNER Gresley Green and Cream coloured tourist stock, whilst the “styling” of the livery was actually based on that of the BR Midland Pullman in that the “van/non passenger” section was the main colour unbroken by the highlight stripe. The original intention was to have a “wrap around yellow front” similar to that found on BR Class 37’s complete with an “anti-glare black out” around the cab windows but I could not get it to look right.
Whilst there are 6 units in this set I should point out that it actually covers 3 versions: the 201 short Hastings units (1004 & 1007), the 202 Hastings Long units (1019) and the 203 Hastings Long units with Buffet coach (1037). The preserved unit 1001 is its correct mix of long and short units, whereas 1066 is intended to be run as a special 8 car set.
