Justin's Workshop
Hi every one,
This is where I'll be posting the frequent updates on my rolling stock work from now on.
And just to kick it off here is some work on my Pullmans that I have been tinkering with.
Pullman Brake Third Parlour

Still a bit of detailing to go, each coach is going to be individual in detail (as the real Pullmans were ),
So there will be 45 individual coaches in this pack. They will be in Pre WW2 condition without curtains.
Both Matchboard and Steel sided will be modeled.

Justin, agreed these do look really good. I'm not knowlegable on coaches, so what differences were there after WW2? I would very much like to see these made suitable (if necessary) for the post-war era as the only other Pullmans - as far as I know - are the commercial ones from BATS.

I am sure Justin will offer up a post war set too.
I am not sure which coaches will be on offer in his pack of 45, but I am hoping they will include sufficient for the Yorkshire Pullman and the Queen of Scots.
The cars being built now are appropriate for the years 1933 to 1939, after the painting of the eaves umber but before the introduction of curtains at the windows.
Most of the same cars continued to run after the war...
A few cars were either refurbished or seriously rebuilt into new things like bar cars.
Some cars were transferred from the Eastern to the Southern or vice versa... and different cars were likely to be seen on different services at different dates anyway.

Rather than all 45 cars in a single pack, can I suggest Train packs?
There could be a pack for the Golden Arrow, a pack for Queen of Scots, etc
This would make them easier to find in the cosist editor.
Also help to reduce unneeded stock for those of us who have seperate trainsets for each route.

Hi Ian,
I thought about the 'train pack' idea, but as some coaches would cross over there could be 4 or more versions of the one coach.
They do have Darwins changeable roof boards fitted.
As Dariwn said, alot of the coaches were rebuilt later (post WW2) and I don't have all the interior/side plans for those ones.
If most people would be happy with repainted/slightly modified versions of these one then I could quickly do the post war versions.
The exact list of coaches is as follows:
(Note: from 220 on are Steel, before that they are Match Board. S/N= Pullman Schedual Number)

Your work has on various coaching stock has been a revelation, your standards and level of research breath taking.
I hope sample consists will be included in any release as i have no idea how they should be arranged!

The major difference possibly is the steel coaches,I just say thanks for making some new Pullman cars as the only the other ones are either the BATS Southern Railway one or 2 dating back to I think 2002.

I would agree with Mike, as I would be grateful for whatever you upload.
So long as we know what goes in which consist and where, we can easily set the consist up using ConBuilder, Convoi or Route Riter.

Hi folks,
I know I have been busy setting up the forum and a few background projects related to it, as well as working on a few other projects as well as looking for a new job, but I have finally got my act together and I have just finished all of the major "poly cutting" on all of the pre WW2 Pullmans.
I must admit, this has been the most intense build next to my protracted build of the NSWGR 38 class that I have undertaken to date.
By that I mean, each coach is unique with name/number, interior marquetry patterns, different interior seat/carpet colours and different wood for the walls on certain cars. (Yes they are that detailed.)

Plus (this is the biggest bit) the interior marquetry for each individual coach is still to be done, so far I have only done preliminary work on Fortuna (the first coach that I attempted) so they are still a fair way off from being finished.
The good news is that asides from one coach, these models represent the whole range of original build K type Pullmans. However, as far as post WW2 modified types go there are still a few design types missing, in particular the “bar cars”.
Once this “batch” is ready I will start work on “re-bogie-ing” the required types for the VSOE set, I won’t be doing the ex-5BEL cars, as really good models for these already exist.

One set were 12 wheeled 'platform end' cars similar to the American styles of the time, although as far as I know they were never painted in umber and cream. (I'm sure Brian will correct me if I'm wrong.)
The other set was a specially built for the now defunct Great South Pacific Express. These were styled after the British Pullmans.
But my main joke in that picture is that 3801 is sitting at King's Cross.
3801 is way 'oversize' for the English loading gauge, so wold never be able to run in the UK.

Hi everyone,
Just a quick update, the Pullmans have finished stage one development (i.e. all 3D work and texturing is done, just awaiting evaluations) and so are on their way to Darwin for checking. I hope not a lot of work will be needed.
I will be doing an extra set of textures with curtains for those who wish to use them post WW2 before the lining was simplified. I will be looking into train formations for these coaches to make consist to use, however, as these are the K type 8 wheelers most formations will not be correct as they ran with the 12 wheelers included in the consists. I will be looking into the 12 wheelers and the other Pullman cars for later release. I am not going to guarantee that I will end up building them.
I still have yet to start on the Pullman Observation Coach, but that will be coming.
I don’t remember if I have asked this before, but is there a way of setting up dual brake systems in wag files? As for the VSOE set I was thinking rather than have 2 sets of wag files (one Air braked the other Vacuum) if it could be set up in the one file?
In other news, the NSWGR 38 class is nearly ready for uploading; they just require final checks before uploading.
Finally put together the works order board:

How well do you know your way around your computer?
To change monitor settings you need to access the control panel section of your computer.
Then you need to find the section for display settings.
Then it is trial and error till you come up with the right screen resolution.
Or the simpler answer is I'll just post smaller pictures.
Paul, I have been considering both P classes (P1 and P2) and maybe a J39, as for the Thompsons I'd say go for the BATS ones.

also try SCP+ dvd there are some Thompson Locomotives and Coaches included in the stock pack,they are also newer than the BATS ones and cheaper

Hey Guys, guess what I just rolled out of the workshops:
It is one of the Devon Belle Observation Cars.
This one is car number 14, with matchboard sides and full hight glass ends.
Car 13 will be flush sided with the sliding vent windows in the end.

I know the "clean white roof" isn't prototypical, but it looks ok.
I have been speaking to Darwin, with regards to the 1950's versions of the Pullmans, there is going to be a giant surprise with those eventually. I'm not revealing anything beyond this: let’s just say everybody will be catered for by that pack.

Fantastic! Ican also confirm that I have after a bit of fiddeling about, been able to resolve the screenshot problem,I can now see all of the coaches and notice board.

Thanks for the compliments. It is still slightly rough though around the roof ends.
I’ve just been fiddling around with them to make the 1937/38 Queen of Scots consist with the observation stuck on the end. I tried using the file UKTS_8720_Headboards_Issue_3.zip for the headboard but I can’t get it to show up in the sim. I’ve tried it as supplied and I tried it as a freight animation but it won’t show up. I’m trying to get it to work with the BATS version of 4495 Golden Fleece but no luck.
The headboards that I made for my 38’s work so I don’t know what is going on.
Anybody got any ideas?

Have you contacted Ian macmillan or mickrik they're your men on frieght anims. If your looking for a loco what about twomanydj's bittern or 60007 Sir nigel Gresley.

Hi Ben,
I was trying the BATS one because I wanted a single chimney A4 from the late 1930's, not many new versions of those getting around. (I know about the early ones on UKTS but I was after a more modern quality one.)
I may have to look into the shapes used to see why it didn't want to work.

Hi Justin,
Why don't you ask Dave to repaint, rename and number one of his A4 loco's, he has kindly renamed and numbered a couple of loco's for me when I asked him to.

Hi Justin, and everybody else!,
Sorry I'm a little late joining the Pullmans discussion, but I don't think the BATS vehicles from the Fires & Wires add-on has been mentioned. There are 21 vehicles in total, and are described as Mk1 Pullmans. I can supply a full list if required!

I know of some pullmans with names on the railway I work on. I could find the names out if you like.
It was the lner blue bittern I ment by twomanydj's not by the Br version.

The main reason I am very interested in the ex Devon Belle pullmans is, apart from the fact that Car No 14 (Ex 281) is preserved and in use on the Swanage Railway, the other one Car 280 featured in my 21st Birthday celebrations one or three moons ago way back in 1971.
My family took me to the Dart valley Railway as it was then, and had hired the coach.
I was the only one not to get to ride in it that day, as instead I was put on the footplate of Ex BR Pannier tank 1638, When we got to Totnes Riverside, there, in the run round loop was Newly restored Prarie 4588, so we double headed back to Buckfastleigh with the two crews having water fights with the pep pipes of each loco.
I subsquently got to ride in coach 280 on the Paignton Kingswear line years later.
Really looking forward to the Pullmam car pack.

The Mk1 Pullman's are going to be built, but at a later date, they are slightly off the top of the to do list, and there are a few refurbishment projects that need attention because I have been putting them off as well as delayed new builds. At the moment I have about 4 MSTS projects on the go so I'm not in any danger of running out of things to do.

What about making the Observation cars and the brake pullmans dual couplings auotmatic and chain and the normal inner ones automatic only.
