The advice about virus alerts hasn't changed in years and is at ===> https://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=93716
Norton and Kaspersky are notorious for false positives but if you really want to be sure follow the advice in the linked thread.

The reference to false positives is not unreasonable, however until the recent upgrade/changes to UKTS my downloads from UKTS using Kaspersky were NOT flagged up as not being secure!

Hey folks just a quick on from me.
I was doing my normal search around the forums and such, of which does involve that other simulator, but i came across this https://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=361&t=154037
If the site doesnt know how much longer they will last, maybe best to start downloading as much as you can incase they do disappear.
Your thoughts ?

Re: Is UKTS Down
I strongly suspect Matt's rather pessimistic view of the future has been triggered by the death of John Lewis. As far as I could tell, it was John who was keeping UKTS going after almost all of the other moderators had left or become inactive. A couple of times Peter Peddlesden posted that he had "better things to do" when asked a question about something at UKTS so it appears John wasn't getting much support from him.
It would be a real shame if UKTS were to cease to exist. Despite my animosity towards Peter Peddlesden, I would hate to see all of Matt's hard and good work eventually come to nothing.
Bob.

Hi All,
Whilst I do agree with the "times are tough" comment from Matt (I myself have had a pretty rough go of things the last year),
for me personally, it's the thought of a lot of people missing out on things that has kept the TSSH file hosting going.
Now I don't want people jumping up and down thinking that I would abandon the forum and hosting, far from it.
The TSSH files that I am hosting are in my personal 2tb Dropbox account of which I have used less than 21% of all up.
It doesn't cost me much to keep that going, the main site is hosted for free though Weebly and the forum is hosted for free as well.
My only cut backs have been to modelling times and releasing new(ish) add-ons. The big new however is that I am swapping jobs again (my 5th since starting the forum) but this time it has been my choice to change. My new job is in a Harley Davidson motorcycle dealership as a spare parts and accessories salesperson. The new job is closer to home, as should be a lot less stressful as it isn't mainstream retail, which should mean that I will be a bit more relaxed and not as mentally agitated. Another plus is it pays almost double what I have previously been earning .
Regards,
Justin

Re: Is UKTS Down
I didn't renew my "annual" subscription when it fell due recently because there had been virtually nothing new on the site for the best part of the previous year for MSTS or Open Rails. The only recent new files have been the Mid East Coast route, which is also available here.
However, there is still considerable activity related to TS2013 and I suspect that the future of UKTrainSim will be in the hands of those who use that program.
After all, we are a pretty unusual bunch, sticking with a two-decade old program (I am not counting Open Rails in that!)
Many MSTS sites around the world have disappeared or become moribund. One of the few to have occasional updates is the German site, The Train. The valuable Australian Steam4Me site has only had one update in nearly seven years and that was useful information rather than new files.
So a question (to which I do not know the answer): is it useful to try to keep UKTS going as a source for MSTS/Open Rails? Or do we accept that it has fulfilled its purpose? Would the MSTS/Open Rails community be advised to concentrate on one website and give it all the support they can? (probably this one)
Or should we support MSTS financially even though it will be of little use to most of us, for old times sake if you like?
I really don't know.
Jonathan

I hope the job goes well,Justin.
Re MSTS,UK Trainsim  etc,I do not know the answer.Personally,I have downloaded and purchased virtually everything I can for MSTS.I should still like to see someone build the North London Line (Acton to Puurfleet via both Stratford and Tottenham),it has lots of freight and passenger activity although not high speed,if they get the gradients correct it would test your train handling skills.
Back on subject,I think MSTS will die out with us oldies.I am very grateful to those who have helped with all the intricacies of it and helped me enjoy it.If this became a subscription site to keep it going,I would be OK with that.

Good luck with the new job Justin.
UKTS is a massive resource for MSTS (and other sims) it would be a shame to see it go, I hope they do find a way to keep it going..

I too would like to wish you every success in your new job, Justin.
Unfortunately all good things can often come to an end. Obviously it would be a shame to lose the UKTS content, and in particular the MSTS elements. I imagine that the total MSTS content comprises many TerraBytes of data and hence would be beyond most peoples' ability to host it. All we can do is watch this space so to speak.

Hi Guys,
Thank you for the best wishes for the job! Hopefully it will be a lot better than what I am used to.
Keeping up with the thread on UKTS, alanthompsonsim.com have offered to host the TS side of things, and being the glutton for punishment that I am I have publically offered to host the MSTS and OR stuff. Whether or not anything comes of this, who knows, but if no one throws their hat into the ring, nothing will get done.
Regards,
Justin

Wow justin thats one hell of am offer to UKTS, maybe some good can come out of this.
In regards to MSTS us here at the Wessex Team (unsure if we will keep name lol) we are still working on our projects, even so my daughter wanted to have her own route, so I am willing to keep MSTS as my train simulator of choice.

Re: Is UKTS Down
Not completely down this morning but I am unable to download. I get to the screen saying the download is ready and then get a message stating
This page isn't working
which quickly changes to the message about only one download at a time.
I have tried downloading options such as opening the link in a new tab and opening the link in an incognito window with the same result.
Is it just me?
I have been downloading quite a lot lately to save files I downloaded a long time ago before the days I was wise enough to archive the downloads.

Hi Bob,
To be honest, I don't know, mate.
So long as you've got a reasonable anti-virus program installed, you should be OK
For several years, I have used the built-in Windows Defender and have never (knowingly) had any security problems (?famous last words??!).

Hi Coolhand101,
No problem here either - could it be something local in your browser?
The only "oddity" I have is that, for some weeks now, I've had to enter my 'name' and password every time I log into the Forum. Â Previously, it was filled in automatically, although it might be to do with cookies.

Using Windows 10, Chrome and Norton.
Just tried again typing in the URL and had exactly the same result.
I thought it meant that something hasn't been renewed, though I am not good on such things.
