Last time I tried something like that people didn't take to kindly to it.
I will be doing the VSOE wag files as both Auto w/ air brakes and Chain w/ vacuum brakes though.
The main release of 1950's era Pullman's will be Chain w/ vacuum brakes though.

Dual coupings cause problems.
The observation cars were turned on a turntable.
The loco needed to couple to both ends.
As my UKTS signature says....
IF it's got buffers it's chain.

Hi,
If you have a look at first generation diesels,even DRS class 37's have screw link couplings, unfortunately the nearest to them in MSTS is chain link couplings,so for steam era and diesels up to class 60's have screw link couplings.
Most BR coaches had both screw link and drop down buckeye's,the screw link was used to couple the coach to the locomotive,and the buckeye between the coaches.
I agree with Ian, steam loco's and 1st generation diesels and electric loco's ,should have chain couplings and any coach up to BR MK3 should have chain couplings.
Can I suggest the current Pullman's that are under construction give them chain couplings,when you do the MK1 Pullman's give them automatic couplings,I know it's a compromise.

No harm done. I was only wanting to test the set so the BATS A4 is no issue.
The release consists won't feature an engine, that way people can choose which engine that they want to run.
So far the only Pre WW2 consist that can be fully done is the Queen of Scots.
A few more coaches are needed to complete the sets (namely 12 wheelers).

Psst . . . I change all of my couplings to automatic using Route Riter, and therefore the choice of couplings is not critical to me.

Other than what can couple to what; does the type of coupling actually have any impact on how a train performs within the sim?

Weirdly, if you are using the latest bin patch you can run mixed brakes in the train without any issues.
I have had them out behind Dave's latest Tornado (in BR blue), it has vacuum brakes and has no trouble moving the train.

Ok, having a quick break off the Pullman's and having a go at animating the net on the Gresley POS van.
The good news is I managed to get it to work without any problems (modelling wise):
There is one problem however: if the net animation is set up as a "door" animation, then net wont deploy/retract at speed, the train has to be stationary. If it is set up as a pantograph (which can be used at speed), if it is coupled to a steam/diesel loco then it wont move from the open position.
What are your thoughts guys, should I set it up as a door, pantograph or just leave it as static?

One thought on the Mail net, could the wagon be set up as a very low powered electric engine? (like a DVT but without the cabview) that way the pantograph (net) should work whatever loco is up front, the only problem I could see with it then is, would it still work on a non electrified route? a cabview/passview could even be added as the view the operator of the net would have.
But as Alec said I would be more than happy to run it with a static net.

Just tried the above idea with a class57/Pendolino drag consist, and the panto didn't work with a diesel up front on either an electrified or non electrified route, so it appears it wouldn't work.

Just as I feared, it locks the panto out because of the train engine being non electric. Similar problem when it is set up as a door, the train must be completely stationary for it to work. If you try it at speed, you get a 'blank' message box like if you are in view 1 and press 1 again (I occasionally do it by accident when I'm tired).
Oh well, it was worth trying to figure out the idea. I wonder if OpenRails will have door capabilities with out a 'speed lock', I have been on a few train trips where the guard has opened the doors before the train fully stops.
I'll just leave the already uploaded files alone.

Those quad arts will come in handy for use on MEP+ when it comes out,as there are no OHLE on the route,then it easy to back date and run steam train activities on it,using your marvellous Gresley stock and Dave's Eastern region steam Loco's

Justin, can you please keep the source files for those Mk1s handy? One thing I'd love to see in MSTS is more Translator coaches, which usually will be a couple of Mk1's, used when you need to drag an EMU somewhere for work to be done on it.

Don't worry, the Mk1 shape isn't going away, the BG will end up in a new Mk1 TPO pack along with my MK1 GUV. If you want I can send you the TSM base shape (be warned it has been slightly shrunk from the EH2 (over) size to match my (near scale) Pullmans.
The story behind the Mk1 Mail pack is sort of a hangover from the end of EuropeanBahn, My 67's (2 versions) and 325's (3 versions) were to be part of a new Mail by Rail pack which was to include new models of the Mk1 TPO stock. The 67's and 325's being my work stayed with me when EuropeanBahn closed down, but the TPO's weren't mine (I never saw the new models, only the ones that were in the ECE part 2 patch). So when I get around to it I will try and get the "full" second pack finished on my own.
So for those who are keeping track the first "full" pack is already on UKTS (my full class 67 pack); the second pack, (which I have "split up" to do the full class of 325's) would have been/will be 67's 67004 and 67021, 325's 325001 325002 and 325003 plus the Mk1 TPO stock and if I ever get around to it, one or 2 47's in RES colours (numbers undecided, back dating them from my 57/6 class models); and the last “full” pack was/is to be the 57/6 pack with all 5 members of the class ( 57601 is to be in original Porterbrook livery and WestCoast Railways colours).
The model above basically shows where the work currently is with the 57/6’s (I haven’t touched it since EB closed), it may look good but it is still lacking details and textures (it does have working fans though). So in between Pullman packs and everything else I’m going to try and get these done. And they can be back dated to be 47’s easily enough so there’s more work, unless someone wants to help out.
I had been toying around with other pack ideas that I was going to suggest to EB before it closed, so who knows, one day I may get around to doing those packs.

I have had a go at doing them but they didn't come out right, so for the time being I am not going to release the 3 "missing" cars. They are already in the UKTS file library any way (albeit in their original 5BEL form) as part of the 3 5BEL packs that I referenced. If you are ok with them being slightly bigger than my cars, a different paint style (those cars are more photot realistic) and them not being in their rebuilt form, then I'd say use them.
One day I may have another shot at them, and release them as a "booster" pack.

As for the extreme "rivet" counters, that is why all of my stock comes with a warning:
"These coaches are not 100% accurate. They are a representation of the real thing."
And:
"These coaches are not 100% accurate so don't complain about them."
The Pullmans will come with an additional warning:
"These coaches have a very high poly count (please do not check, you do not need a heart attack)
due to the amount of detail in them (well they are Pullmans after all).
They have been tested on both high and low end machines and they do work quite well,
however I take no responsibility if these coaches do not work well on your computer.

Still on a break from the Pullmans and kicking out old projects that I had put off.

I have a few job interviews comming up so will be less productive for the next few days.
I am eventually looking at creating "era packs" for downloading, so that if you wish to run any LNER/ER train you will only need to download one file and it would contain nearly all the coach stock that you would need.

Feel free to use the exLNER and other companies non passenger coaching stock on the Southern region.
BR made them common user.
It was quite common to see parcels trains made up with vans from all 4 regions.
BR blue versions are almost complete and will hopefully be sent to Justin today

What can I say, the amazing and wonderful Ian Macmillan has worked his majic and done it again:
One thing I will warn about though, as details of when the NPCS stock was withdraw is vague some of these vans may not have recieved BR blue, however I have decided to release them any way as Ian has done such a good paint job on them. I would advise you to only use a few (1 or 2) per load as there were unlikely to be many around.

Believe me Alec, I have been and I am even more so tempted to do the full set of 61'6"ers in Blue - Grey just for the hell of it. I know some other people want to see them done, even if they never lasted long enough to receive that livery.
Of course I could always go to the extremes of GNER dark navy w/ red stripe (probably not though) just for a laugh.

Hi Justin,
I would definitely use the 61'6" Blue Grey Coaches, Technically incorrect but who cares I don't, they would look good behind a Blue Deltic,running between Kings X to York,either on MEP+, ECE,or best of all Woodhead hauled by a EM1 or EM2,loco.

Not to overwhelm all of you but a very old project has finally been finished.
I give you the whole NSWGR C38 class:
Peter Newell (owner of the Coals to Newcastle site) and I have finished tinkering with them.
Peter is going to package them for me, and they will be available on his website.

Those steamers look really nice,when you release them maybe you could give us all a link to the site that we can down load them from and also a route to run them on.
My steam favourites are still the SAR|SAS Cl 25C and the GMAM Garretts,heavy freights from Pietermaritzburg to Eshowe,were double headed by GMAM and another banking it at the rear.

Yes, that link is correct. I actually made the link on the "Coals to Newcastle" text but for some reason the text hasn't changed colour properly (no doubt I've fluffed up something in the forum settings).
I am just tested the final installer, only a minor fix is needed, and then they should be good to go.

You will want to download the main route that this site was set up for: The Coals to Newcastle route.
It covers the "Short North" section which runs from Sydney Central Station all the way up to Newcastle. It is quite an epic run and a visual masterpiece.
On this Route the 38's were mostly concentrated on the famous Newcastle Flyer's which departed at 9:00am 12:00pm and I think 3:00pm (in both up and down directions.
This site is also home to basically all the rolling stock that you need to run for the NSWGR system.
(Eventually there will be activities).

The routes that you want off here are:
Main Illawarra V3: Sydney Central to Bomaderry (Nowra). On this line the 38’s hauled the South Coast Daylight Express (albeit only to Thirroul). This line is quite spectacular as it follows the coast on the cliff sides for part of the journey (it also has a model of the station for the suburb where I live Kirrawee, so I tend to use this route as my “base testing route” as I know the northern section of the line quite well). I am working on activity based off the South Coast Daylight using my 3801 for part of the trip.
Short West and Short South Route: the 38’s handled the Central West Express over the famous Blue Mountains, and also the Southern Highlands Express going south.
North West Route: A continuation of the Coals to Newcastle route that extends the line from East Maitland to Armidale. The 38’s were used on the Brisbane Limited over this section.
Great Southern Mainline Route: the 38’s were used on the Melbourne Limited and the Sydney Limited.
Central West Route: a continuation of the Central west run from the Short West and Short South Route. The 38’s handled the Central West Express over this section.
Tumulla Bank Route: notoriously step and challenging run, this route sits between the Short West and Short South Route and the Central West Route.

And for those of you who have trouble driving a steam engine, I would suggest having a go with my 38's. The physics are set up to be quite realistic which means they are quite easy to drive. The 38's were know as great steamers, very rarely lacking in steam generation and boiler pressure. They are smooth and fast accelerators and fairly good at braking a heavy load. Unlike a lot of engines they tended not to bite back, so the MSTS model would actually make a good learners engine, with the Main Illawarra v3 route being a good learning ground to run them on.
