Hi There,
Well then,
I am pleased to say that the refurbishment and soundproofing has been completed at the works and the frames are being cut for a Southern Railway "Q" Class 0-6-0.
You know the way things go with my work,
This could take a while
Mick

Re: Cannock Chase Workshop
Hi There,
Yay!!!! activity at last
I have had a bit of a problem getting going again this year. Mind you I was side tracked by Clive's excellent Thames-Trent which kept me occupied all the way through January. February I have been looking at updating some of my old Burton-Derby activities to Stoke-Nottingham using some of the much more suitable rolling stock we have this time around. This will be another piece of cracking work orchestrated by Don.
Then there is this,
First screenshot of the Q taking shape. There is a lot to be done before this model will appear though it does use the N/U Class 3500 gallon Tender which helps.
I know a few worked in the Dorset area for New Forest, were some of them seen on the South East section?
Mick

Re: Cannock Chase Workshop
According to Longworth in 1963 30533, 30538, 30543 and 30544 were allocated to Stewart's Lane, whilst in 1960 30533, 30534, 30537, 30538, 30543 and 30544 were allocated to Norwood Junction.
I'm not sure if this is relevant?

I don't recall seeing any photos showing this Class in the SouthEast Mick - nice model though.

Re: Cannock Chase Workshop
HI Mick
Glad to se CCW is back in operation, can I request a stanier 2-6-2T for Macclesfield Hibel road please? I'd like to do a static which would be permanent in the route.
Also as the Nottingham Victoria section has now been added, do we anything
in the works suitable for running over this section. Or, maybe someone could renumber anything suitable from the SCP route?
Thanks
Don

Hi Don,
It its in the last days of the Great Central the Midland transferred run down Royal Scots and Black 5 for passenger trains, freight were 9f, ROD 2-8-0.
Prior to the Midland Region take over B1 and A3 and any BR ex Great Central Loco's,the trouble is the only ex Great Central loco's in the library are now quite old.

Hi Michael,
My D11's worked into Derby occasionally on Lincoln Trains. The next model will definately be an O4 once the Q is finished and a Stanier 2-6-2T is needed so that will follow the O4.

Re: Cannock Chase Workshop
Hi There,
Progress with the Q is now going well. I am modelling components that were additional to the boiler and on the Q's there seemed to be quite a lot. Then I will add the inside motion and the cab fittings.
It has exported to the sim with no problem
excuse the textures, they are w.i.p ones

Re: Cannock Chase Workshop
Hi There,
I have added a load more bits including the lubricators which are a bit of a wiered setup on the L/H side of the boiler, I will see if I can get the arm and piston animated.
Now near complete, I have stolen the cab fittings from the U Class, I need to see If I can find some pictures of the cab interior of No541 to see what alterations I need to make, if any of you out there have any pictures please.
Next I will add the inside motion this will tip the model way ove the MSTS limit so I will see what can be added to the freight animation to balance the S files out. This will be a model with 2 shape files. I will see if Open Rails will run it with a single shape file.
Happy Easter!!
Mick

Re: Cannock Chase Workshop
Mick,
The Q is looking great, fantastic work as usual.
When you say it will push it over the MSTS limit, what number did you have in mind?
My 12 wheel Pullman Kitchens are just shy of 27400 polys and are running ok in the sim.

Re: Cannock Chase Workshop
HI Justin
She is up to 26473 which should just leave me enough space to add the animated inside motion.
27000+ is well impressive for a coach.
I have found the limit around 31500 subject to texture mapping and animation steps

Re: Cannock Chase Workshop
Hi There,
Still plodding away with the "Q"
It seems sometimes difficult to get the texture detail of a black loco to show up in the sim as I have been doing loads of riveting. Otherwise I would up another screenie.
Also,
I have the frames, smokebox and boiler up for a fresh new ex-GCR O4 2-8-0

I'm glad some one is tackling that one before I butcher it.
I will definatly look forward to seeing the O4 progress.

Re: Cannock Chase Workshop
Hi There,
The first one 30548 will soon be finished for New Forest. This one retained the original Maunsell chimney untill withdrawn and spent most of it's British Rail career allocated to Bournemouth. She is fitted with AWS so will have a an unlined tender with a late crest.
I will prep an similar model with an early crest tender and no AWS. Some were rebuilt with Class 4 chimney like some of the N Class locos so I will prep a Class 4 chimney version as well with a late crest tender.

Very nice, Mick. Another model that can supercede the BATS version when needed.

Re: Cannock Chase Workshop
Hi There,
The model is now fully textured in a grubby condition. The photo's I have found of her show her in such a condition, but she worked on untill July 1965. The tender is fitted with Disc wheels, I did not realise some of the wheelsets had been changed on some 3500 gal tenders untill carefully looking at the pictures.
While I get the engfile sorted I will texture the others.

Regarding SR "Q" class
Hi,
Your Qs are damn good, except that, what you call the lubricator is, in fact, the steam reverser, and the locos were L\H drive.
Fired to a few of them at 71A in another life. lol.
