Hi Guys,

I thought I'd get stuck into finishing the EuropeanBahn 57/6 pack rather than put it off any longer:


57601 in it's original Porterbrook livery, there will also be the WestCoast Railways livery.



57602 Restormel Castle in FGW Blue livery w/ 2 piece snow plow.



57603 Tintagel Castle in original FGW "fag packet" livery w/ 2 piece snow plow.



57604 Pendennis Castle in GWR lined green (launch condition with white rims and 3 piece snow plow).



57605 Totnes Castle in FGW Blue livery w/ 2 piece snow plow.

The models still need texture and structual work, and I need to work on the eng files before these go for testing.

They have been scaled down from ther original "over size" to be closer to scale size (due to them towering over all the rolling stock by at least 2 foot).

From these models it will be easy to back date them to be 47's.

Now I do happen to have a crazy question, were there any 37's used by the parcels sector (in RES colours) or were they only ever
in BR Bule/BR Large logo Blue when they hauled the mail trains (if they ever did?).

Hi tJustin,
Just done a search for RES Diesels,and it seems only class 47's carried the RES livery + some 08 shunters,I would think any 37 with train heating could have been used on RES trains
These are the RES Locomotives 08, 47, 86 and 90,from 1997 the 47's were replaced by EWS class 67 on RES services.

Thanks for that, I wasn't to sure if I had to do a 37 in RES colour for the mail pack or not (just getting ideas together ATM).
I am on the tail end of sorting out the 57/6's, just minor tweaks to go.

Just thought I'd surpries you with this: the VSOE Pullmans have just been uploaded to UKTS (file id: 30711)

Please remember: These coaches have a very high poly count (please do not check, you do not need a heart attack)
due to the amount of detail in them (well they are Pullmans after all).
They have been tested on both high and low end machines and they do work quite well,
however I take no responsibility if these coaches do not work well on your computer.

Due to the level of detail and a particular "bug" with MSTS, these coaches show with full detail in the sim
but if viewed in Sviewer apear to be missing parts. do not panic the parts are there.

Hi Alec,

I thought so too. I am currently fiddling with some Mk1 RES stock based off my Mk1 BG and GUV shapes, so far 10 models (mostly bogie swaps, although there are 3 with roller shutter doors so they had to lose their hand rails). Then there is the earlier Royal Mail stock that goes with them, plus the NAA Propelling Control Vehicle to do.

Plus 12 wheeled Pullmans for the ER Pullman pack, a few 47’s for the Mail By Rail Pack, and a few more surprises along the way.

Just to say I have tested the Pullman's and I have low spec laptop,and only place I seemed to have a slight problem with them was on SCP+ around Polmadie and Waverley where fps was down 5 fps,once in open country went between 20-35 fps.
Running in OR I got better frame rates Polmadie 10 fps open country 19-40 fps

Hi Danny.
The VSOE is made up of former Golden Arrow/Bournemouth Belle and also three ex Brighton Belle coaches, I understand that Justin has not used the Brighton belle coaches.
Now this would need to be confirmed by those in the know, but I belive that both sets were based at Stewarts Lane, so it is possible(?) that they could have been swapped about, this needs to be confirmed of course.

Justin has another set of post war Pullman's to come out along with the BR Mk1 set,maybe if Danny could give Justin the names of the Golden Arrow coaches he could add them to the ones to come.

Hi Guys,

The next set of Pullmans that will come out are the ones that ran on the ECML in the 1930's in pre-WW2 condition. The current set of VSOE would not be suitable for the Golden Arrow as they are modeled as they are in preservation.

There will be more Pullman packs coming out so don't worry, the correct coaches for the Golden Arrow will eventually be released.

Hi, they look excellent but are air braked and auto (according to the blurb).
For activities, auto coupling I can get around, but any chance of up loading vacuum versions?

Have you tried running them behind a vacuum fitted engine?
The picture of them in the screen shots section behind Tornado, Tornado is vacuum braked with the coaches air braked. I have successfully run them and shunted them behind both air and vacuum braked engines using the latest bin patch. Then the only problem would be that you know that they are air braked.

The real VSOE cars are air braked only (not dual braked) that is why I chose to release them that way.

I have just found out a gremlin has crept into the VSOE Pullman set,
Perseus is spelt wrong on the coach ace (and potentially the shape files).
I will put a patch up to correct this mistake.

I believe the VSOE coaches were vacuum or duel braked when first run in preservation.
They certainly were in BR service.

I have copied and pasted the vauum section from Justin's LNER coaches into the pullman .wag file and have given them chain couplings.

Hi Justin,
Not had time to install the patch/or new upload but these coaches are excellent.
No problems when running through some Thames Trent 'heavy' areas so it looks good.
Now...... how can I justify using them in an activity on a replacement service for a broken down 'Blue Pullman'.
All suggestions welcome.

Don't use the patch as it is faulty, use the new full upload the has just been cleared today (13/3/2013).

As for the 'Blue Pullman' replacement, if you are doing a period activity you may want to wait for the correct coaches to come out. If you aren't doing a period activity then you can go 'free for all'.

Hi Clive,
You could do a what if activity,when The Great Central Route from Marylebone was closed by the Midland Region,The Master Cutler Pullman Train was transferred to the Eastern Region from Kings X to Sheffield.

The what if, instead of being transferred to the Eastern Region the Midland Region ran it from St Pancras to Sheffield,it would fit into the era Thames - Trent is set in.

Or a weekend diversion due to the East Coast Main Line being shut due to enginering works

A smashing set of class 57's and a superb pullman train!
57601 in Porterbrook livery hauled the Airbraked full VSOE set from Bath Spa to Bristol Parkway, a bit of a struggle climbing Filton Bank.
At Bristol Parkway 71000 Duke of Gloucester took charge of the Vaccum Pullman set and whisked them up the Badminton line back to London, reaching speeds of 92MPH.
In the real world 35028 Clan Line worked the real VSOE from London Victoria via Clapham Jn, Staines, Reading, Newbury, Westbury, Bath and Bristol and return today.
A potential for the Briscard route, if there are any budding activity writers out there?

Hi everyone,

Progress report time:

The ER Pullman pack is waiting for me to figure out the interior layouts/window layouts (I don’t have plans for them but they are similar to the K types) of the final 18 cars that have been added to the pack. I now have some idea of how they are supposed to look so they will be next on the list after the “Mail by Rail” pack.
Then comes the fun of (way to many) more cars for the other era sets.

Things are progressing well with the “Mail by Rail” pack, all the coaches/vans are complete except from testing and final evaluations.

I have hammered out 4 different 47’s for the pack over about 6 hours today (using 57601 as a base):


47474 Sir Rowland Hill in Parcels sector livery.


47522 Doncaster Enterprise in LNER Green Parcels sector livery.


47733 Eastern Star in RES livery w/ long distance tanks.


47777 (minus its name plates) in RES livery w/ long distance tanks.

They still need fine tuning and testing. The 2 47/7’s are set up to work with the NAA van.


The NAA has been set up with a very basic passenger view (looking out one window, without movement) and has custom working lights. With the headlights turned off the red lights come on. Switch it to dim and the reds turn off and the markers come on (with the 47/7 showing reds on its front). Turn it to bright, the red lights come back on, the markers shut off and the 47/7s full headlight setting comes on.

I have decided against making a 90 class in RES livery for the “Mail by Rail” pack (it was part of the original EB specs) instead I am going to be making another model in its place. This model will have working doors, and will be a first team up between 2 members from the TSSH forum.

I will leave you guessing until I get the 47s fully finished before revealing what and who is involved.

Hi all,

I've had a bit of a muck around day today, I've checked the 47's and RES/RM vans and all are ok for the moment.
Then I did some work on the Snowdon Mountain Railway (yes this route is with me for finalisation), adding in the missing platforms and platform markers, plus a little bit of extra scenery. I’m sending this to Martin (mendes) for a look (he is acting as route checker).

With this done I then turned my attention to a “demo” file that Darwin had sent me.
This TSM file was to try out the idea of combining my K type Pullman body work with John’s 12 wheeler Pullman details. After about 2 hours I had this:



It is a 12 wheel Pullman 30 seat Brake Third Parlour. I’m not too sure about the paint work around the van end (Hornby only produce the 12 wheel Brake Third Parlour as a 24 seat version) but it works. I haven’t loaded it into the sim yet (I have just finished it). This is one of 3 of these needed to finish off the 1938 ER Pullman set before release. Then after these 3 are done there is another 15 to come. This will enable all pre WW2 LNER Pullman services to be run. I am just waiting on details of some consists before working on them.

The 12 wheeler is looking good,and the paint work looks ok to me,it's hard to get 70+ year old photos now,as that is the age pre WW2 Pullman Cars.

Just a quick post to say that I have finished all 58 of the 1938 ER Pullman coaches (after checking I found that I had 6 coaches too many) and have managed to put most of them into prototypical consists.

Hopefully testing shall start soon.

Well the good news is that the testing is going well, it shouldn't be too long before the Pullmans become available.

I do happen to have one question that has been bugging me for a while, how do you make a curved shape (like a nameplate) with the texture being straight (the BATS LNER A3's have this so I know that it is possible).
What I am getting at is this:

The nameplate for the BATS Flying Scotsman is curved.

But the texture shows that it is straight.

My first thought was that they used a cylinder shape textured the top of it and then “flattened” it, but that doesn’t work, neither does having a flat shape and bending it. Both cause distortions and misshapen words. I want to use this method as trying to create perfectly positioned curved text doesn’t go well for me. Does anybody have any ideas? I use TSM.

The only thing that occurs to me is that each letter is "cut" and then rotated to suit and applied to the base model.

There is a tutorial at Steam4Me on curved lettering but I have been unable / unwilling to understand it. I believe that Ian Mac has got the hang of it. It applies to PSP.

I create the linear name with Paint and then copy it into PSP where I Magic Wand the letters, rotate them and bung them into the blank nameplate. It's a long drawn out process! The results are also better if the nameplate in the texture file is much larger than it needs to be.

I have read and worked with that tutorial before (that is how I got the original forum logo done), but I wanted to try doing it with the straight texture as shown in the photo's. I might have to do it the way Alec suggested with each letter being it's own individual bit.

Make a cylinder of at least 32 sections
Copy and paste it and shrink it to form a circle within a circle.
Select and delete most of the side and bottom points to leave a fan shape.

Make straight nameplate with the same number of sections as are left on the fan.
Go to points mode, select each point and drag to the related point on the fan.

When you are satisfied with the result, delete the fan.
Easier to show with a picture than describe.

Hi Everyone,

I have just uploaded the long awaited 1938 LNER allocated Pullman coach pack (ukts file id:30859)

The pack come complete with consists for the LNER Pullman services (you need to add an engine), plus 2 sets of textures: one set with curtains, one without so that those of you who wish to run these coaches post WW2 can do so. Eventually furter "train packs" will be released to make up the Post WW2 services.

Note: for some reason despite my best efforts the interior lighting is wrong. some parts that should be lit up are not. Sorry.

"Unfortunately" I have to work to stay alive but working does provide me with some 'down time' away from modelling .

Seriously though; this set of coaches, whilst giving me great joy (and many headaches) during the build process, is probably going to be my one and only 'giant pack' to be released. I do intend at a later date to combine the sets into era specific packs (i.e. all LNER era coaches in one pack, same for early and later BR ), but this won't be done until I make the missing coaches.

All other 'new' packs will be 30 or less individual units.

Beside the Pullmans for the Golden Arrow,Thanet Belle,Bournemouth Belle,and Devon Belle,there were loose Pullman Cars used in Boat Trains to and from Southampton Docks as well.
