MSTS Swap
I have just twice tried to install MSTS Swap v3. Each time Norton has deleted it as a threat without giving me any choice.
Any suggestions?
I think it had previously deleted version 2 as there was a fvolder but no file.

Re: MSTS Swap
Hi Jonathan,
Sorry you're having trouble with MSTS_Swap but there's absolutely no malware in it. I suspect that it's a false positive from Norton (software I NEVER use!)
As I don't know what Norton thinks it sees, I can't do anything to help, except to suggest that you temporarily stop Norton from running while you install the utility.
I've just downloaded v3 from the TSSH library and successfully installed it. Also, it runs without any errors. I'm using the Windows Defender anti-virus.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MSTS Swap
In case it is useful, Norton identifies the threat as a file called Heur.AdvML.L
Is this something which might have infiltrated?
It is described on one discussion of the threat as a worm. It definitely exists.

Re: MSTS Swap
Hi Jonathan,
Programs like Norton only look for patterns of bytes - they don't look for the file itself.
Obviously a pattern of bytes in the MSTS_Swap installer looks like, or very similar to, a pattern in the real Heur.AdvML.L
You can safely switch Norton off while installing MSTS_Swap - it is very unlikely to have been 'infiltrated'.
I have not received any other reports of this problem.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MSTS Swap
I temporarily disabled Norton and installed MSTS Swap successfully. Played around with it for a few minutes.
Then when Norton came back into operation it deleted the file.
I am not expecting a response but I thought I would report it so others know what may happen.

Re: MSTS Swap
Hi,
I noticed that I have the version of MSTS Swap from UKTS (UKTS_36732 dated 2017) and Norton is quite happy with it. Has there been an update that I've missed?

Re: MSTS Swap
Hi Dennis,
You have version 1.7!!
The latest version of MSTS_Swap is v3.0, released in June 2022 under the same UKTS file ID and is available from trainsim.com, my page of the TSSH library or the elvastower file library.
I don't know how or why you've missed versions after 1.7 because I posted details of each new version as it was released on the UKTS and TSSH Forums!
I've not received any other reports of Norton, or any other anti-virus, taking exception to it.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MSTS Swap
Hi,
I have to admit that I only use Open Rails these days. I haven't used MSTS for years now.

Re: MSTS Swap
Hi Dennis,
That's as good a reason as any
You have no need for MSTS_Swap, then!
Cheers,
Ged
