Can you make an AI train Detach
Hi everyone,
I have an idea for an Activity I would like to work on. The issue I can see is that can you make an AI Traffic loco one it has pulled into a station detach from the stock and then run round and attach at the other end?
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,
For MSTS, I'm pretty certain the answer is 'no' - Sorry!! Whether Open Rails will be able to perform that sort of manoeuvre, I'm not sure. I think I read about it somewhere, but can't remember if it was to be in the TS20xx family, or Open Rails.
Cheers,
Ged

You might be able to do something if you detach the loco from the coaches first - making it look as if the train is assembled. Then the AI loco could move off as if it was leaving the coaches.

Hi Andy,
I too say the answer is no.
I have tried connecting an ai loco onto a static consist without success. I did manage to make it look as though coupling had occurred but that is all.
If you prove me wrong I shall certainly be very interested to know how!
Regards,
Stephen

Re: Can you make an AI train Detach
Hi Everyone,
What I want to achieve (Which I too don't think is possible) is for a Steam loco to come in at Alton and Detach and run round and couple up...
A shame this kind of manoeuvre can't be done, but thanks for the feedback all.... Oh hummm, I guess it will have to be permanently connected then and just remain in the platform.
Thanks once again for the replies. Lets hope that it is OR that can achieve this kind of stuff later on! Oh as well a the standing start as well...
Cheers

Hi Andy,
I've just done a little experiment and found that, assuming you started the scenario as Danny suggested, as soon as the AI loco couples back to the consist, it loses its AI status (ie the sounds stop and no further movement takes place).
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Can you make an AI train Detach
Thanks Ged,
The problem or work-around that I would like to achieve is for the A1 train from Medstead and four Marks direction pulling into the station (Midhants Railway metals) with my player service waiting on the mainline section at Alton (both at Alton)
But I would like (And I am probably asking too much here) is for this Steam loco to detach and run round. I don't mind if it looks like it has attached at the other end. Otherwise I think I might just stick to it running in.
Cheers

Re: Can you make an AI train Detach
Hi Andy,
I think the nearest you could get would be to start the act with the AI train already in the station, with the loco already uncoupled; its path would be to then perform the run-around and couple up to the coaches. This would mean that its sounds and smoke/steam would stop, as I mentioned before, but if you stop it just before coupling it'd probably look OK. For this to happen requires some precise positioning of the stock and waiting point. If you wish me to send you my experimental activity, just ask!! It only uses a default route and stock.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,
Thanks for the offer, but I think I have done as you suggested! A shame it couldn't be done with how I wanted it to.... the limitations with MSTS unfortunately and many of us probably expect to much from it....
Such is life! work with what you have.....
Cheers
