Msts & Route Riter
Hi all,
Is it possible with Route Riter to hide Stock you don't use?
What I mean is you can hide a route using RR by de-activating it, can you do it with stock.

Ben
I've been thinking about this and I believe that it's possible to get Route Riter to remove stock from the TRAINS area that is not used in the MSTS installation - however its actually fully removed as distinct from deactivated. I'll see what I have in my Route Riter database.

Re: Msts & Route Riter
I de-activated my NWC route sometime ago now as I have the old Cl15PS version not the ukts version.
I was looking at removing my NWC stock to make space for new stock.

Now that is a different question!
RR will list the stock used in an installed route ("Activities/Stock"|"List Stock for Selected Route") for an installed route and they can then be manually deleted.
A word of caution though, be careful that they are not needed for consists in another route.

Re: Msts & Route Riter
I'm not sure if this is any help, but if you can locate all the consists used in the NWC route and move them out (don't delete in case of any problems till everything has been checked) make sure everything is unstored, then convoy (similar to conbuilder but free, download link in the useful links section) will highlight all stock that has not been used in green, and it can be safely removed, (stored elsewhere till you have checked that everything still works).

Mark,
Down loaded this Tried to make a simple rake to see how it works but I got an Incompatible coupler message on a loco I've used before and my AE is fine with it.

Re: Msts & Route Riter
I think convoy will still let you build the consist even with the coupler error (can't check it on mine as the computer is too knackered to run it), if the coupler works in AE it should be OK.

Re: Msts & Route Riter
Mark,
Hope so as you may have helped me with a slow loading AE. Meaning I can build the rakes and save time in what I call crazy eye mode (16-bit High color) setting foe my AE to work.
Can I still find my rakes in the AE normally?

Re: Msts & Route Riter
I don't see why not, consists I have made with convoi have always shown up normally and can be edited as normal in AE.

Re: Msts & Route Riter
What I do to remove unused stock is to move everything out of the Trainset folder (except one item that I know is used - Activity-Analysis requires at least one stock item present) into a temporary folder.
I then run the Activity-Analysis "Check All Consists" and move back any FOLDER that is says is missing. Once that test reports no more missing stock, I run the "Check All Static Models" test and move back anything it reports as missing. Whatever is left over in the temporary folder after all of this testing is unused and can be stored somewhere.
Be careful when removing unused stock by any other method because some folders contain more than one item of stock, some of which may be used and some unused.
Bob.

To add to Bob's comments please be aware that some engines alias sounds and/or cabviews directly to others rather than common folders.

Alec and Bob,
Thanks for your comments and truly I'm grateful. But after reading your posts I think marks option of using Convoi to build rakes maybe the best way forward for now
Thanks to you both

Hi Ben,
I use convoy for making consist and it will allow you to use a mixture of automatic and chain couplings also air and vacuum brakes.
It doesn't throw a Wobelly, not like AE does if you try and use both types of couplings in the same consist.

Mike,
Try using Twomanydy's Jubilee 45593 Koluphour convoi sees the bar couplings as incompatible between the loco and the tender dispite them being he same.

Re: Msts & Route Riter
Hi Ben,
They are not quite the same!
The loco entry is : CouplingUniqueType ( DR_BR_5XP_45593 )
The tender entry is : CouplingUniqueType (DR_BR_5XP_45593)
Note the missing spaces.
I don't use Convoi, so this may not be the reason it's rejected, but worth a try!
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ben,
That is the good point about convoi even though it gives you the error message,it will still couple the loco to the tender just ignore the error message,I have just tried it and it works ok when I ran the loco,,all Dave's Loco's have that problem, the word Bar is in the wrong coupling line it the tender wag file.

And most of his (older) tenders have an extra ) towards the end, cutting off the sound and intake point entries. (He's now aware of it.)

Re: Msts & Route Riter
Hi Ben,
I don't think Route Riter works alongside Convoi? At least it doesn't for me....
But so all the .eng and .wag files images show in Conbuilder, you need to do the following in Route-Riter.
1) Go to the location of your Trainset folder (i.e; C:\MSTS\Trains\Trainset (On mine)
2) Click on E/W Tab up the top on the Route Utils Tab.
3) Click on the List Filtered Files Tab (Another pop-up screen appears) - Wait for it to count all your .eng and .wag files
4) Click on Select all Tab. (Highlights all the files)
5) Click on Make Thumbnails of .eng & .wag Files Tab (will take sometime to do)
Hope this is of help?
