Hi,
Looking at Mike's comments and knowing that other people also have difficulties downloading and installing things, would it be possible to have the 2 stock downloads also on a cd/dvd?
Regards,
Stephen

Yes, it makes no difference to me, but it would depend on Pete Peddleston's agreement. This is still a good way off, but I'll approach him nearer the time. The only drawback with this approach is that both Phases will need to be completed before they can be released, as opposed to uploading one Phase at a time.

The oposing opinion!
Don't forget that some of us are on a budget for one reason or another (retired as I am) and while CD's are good for routes, I hope we would not have to pay for additional stock packs and that they would be downloadable. As you say it is a good way off for now.

OK, I guess it's difficult to please everyone. I'll wait till the stock packs are ready and then see what size they are before coming to a decision. I guess Pete might need an idea of the demand before agreeing to a CD anyway. Of course, if the route is not very well received then no-one will want additional stock !

Re: SouthEast - route in progress
Dee4141,Hello. It would be absolutely impossible to please everyone, that aside I am glad that the Route will come out on CD (with activities).I'm the worlds worst when it comes to downloading Stock, but I also am not worried about what happens concerning add on's.Like every one else I await the release of your Route,in your time. Thanks in advance for what I believe will be a very popular addition to MSTS. I'm sure that all TSSH members will be very enthusiastic about what you have done, many thanks Roger

Re: SouthEast - route in progress
Hi Danny,
When the route gets near release maybe it might be a good idea to either do a poll asking how many people would buy the cd version and how many would down load it.
Maybe there could be a pre order option for the CD that way you would be able to give to Peter a rough amount of CD's that would be bought,if you do it here and on UKTS as well, you might be surprised how many will be sold.
Please don't take this bit the wrong way but quite a few of us are getting the wrong side of 65\70 and not all of us are in the best of health,so there could be some dropping off the radar between now and when the route is finally finished.

I think you need to consider the question of Mini_Route or not. It it becomes available on CD/DVD as a MiniRoute I will almost certainly buy it. If it is a download, I would probably download the route, but would almost certainly not bother downloading a stock pack (and therefore any activities). The content of my Trains folder is now far from standard, and I don't want to create conflicts, or overwrite any changes I have made. I suspect, looking at UKTS posts, I am not alone in customising my MSTS install. Also, I can't imagine many people downloading a route, converting it into a MiniRoute, struggling with installing a stock pack into the new MiniRoute, and having battles getting every activity into the right place (if they need the APK unpacker). Nothing insurmountable, but quite tricky for those of us who are, perhaps, closer than others to 'dropping off the radar'.
I therefore vote MiniRoute, and so, by definition, CD/DVD.

Danny, at the end of the day you should package the route as you see fit. You're the author, it's your call.

Re: SouthEast - route in progress
This is all starting to get a bit heavy. All I wanted to do was make a route and provide the stock to run on it. I thought the best way to do this was by CD/DVD. Suddenly I'm being hit with downloads and mini-routes which I'm afraid are all getting too complex for me. I think I'll just offer the route and stock to Pete Peddleston and let him decide how to package it.

Hi Danny,
You really shouldn't be concerned about how your excellent-looking route and stock are released at this point in time! I would have thought you'd have enough to think about with the route itself
I'm with Niall on this one - whichever way your route and stock is released is fine by me!
Keep on with the good work
Regards,
Ged

Hi Danny,
As the above 2 posts. Its your route so you do what you want
Probably most can guess my preference from the routes i've created but that doesn't mean its the best or only way.
There is the option, as I did on the S&D, of providing two identical routes. 1 as down-loadable but no stock, and 1 as a DVD route produced with the help of UKTS.
Cheers

Thanks for the advice, Guys. I must admit to having enough on my mind at present with finishing the route. However I think once it's done I'll just chat to Pete and go from there.

Sorry to have upset the apple cart.
The route pics look fabulous, so I'll enjoy it however it is delivered, and be grateful that you have both the skill and patience to create such a work, and that you are prepared to share it.
And don't worry - I won't be allowing myself further input to this thread.

Hi all,
Apologies from me also - my seemingly innocent question about the stock packs appears to have been blown out of all proportion.
I will revert to my previous status - patiently waiting in the background for this route, however it is released.

Stephen

Hi Danny,
I have no Qualms with how you are planning to deliver the Route Danny via DVD! I personally think it will make it simpler for everyone to Install and for a £5 buy would be a great buy indeed!
Please can we get back on topic now Gents until Danny or Pete Peddleston decide on how the route will be released? (Please everyone?)
Look forward to further updates on the Route and screenshots Danny.
Thanks
Andy

OK. Changing the subject and maybe to lift the gloom ......a quick couple of shots of a loco and area that I don't think have been shown before.......a grubby 605 Squadron on the climb from Walmer heading towards Dover Priory. ( I know it's the wrong headcode, but these were taken in Explore mode).

There is another way to look at this.
There's a lot of interest in your route. And that can't be bad!
Nice pictures. More please!

Hi Danny
I was looking at my 1958 book of Southern headcodes it looks like the headcode isn't wrong
It was used on London Bridge\Bricklayers Arms to Dover via Faversham,Gillingham,Ramsgate vi the Chiselhurst loop and Chatham
The other route was
Victoria or Holborn Dover via the Orpington Loop,Tonbridge,Ashford,Folkestone Dover
Thanks for the new photo's of the route

Danny and everyone,
For those Interested or incase you have never seen this before, then this may help with Headcode working in future! I've used it lots of times and very Informative reading! It doesn't just cover the era that we are Interested in for this route, but other era's as well! http://www.semgonline.com/headcodes/sheadcodes/04.html
Cheers

This is one that "got away", so unfortunately it won't be included with the route. Some time ago there was the possibility of MT allowing reskins but it never materialised - but this is a reskin made at the time of a model in the UKTS library, the station is Paddock Wood.

Hi Danny,
If I am not mistaken is this not E5004? If so surely we might all beable to come up with some bits to recreate our own for your route? I don't think it would take too much? what do you think as a project? This way with all of us it gives everyone else the opportunity to reskin as I'm sure we would all allow it?
Cheers

Ian Jenkins (Crompton) uploaded models of Class 71s (UKTS 7002, 7003, 7475 and 7476). Is it possible to contact him for obtaining permission to use these?

Great find Alec! I'd completely forgotten about Ian doing these! Mostly done 47's; I had forgotten he too had done the Class 71's, but those looked really Excellent! Is he still on the MSTS Scene?

Re: SouthEast - route in progress
Yes this is a reskin of Ian's UKTS model, but I've a feeling Dave Babb still has control. I sent this reskin and the Hastings DMU to Dave for approval, he thought they were both good enough to upload but he never got around to making an Installer, which he felt was necessary for MT stock.

Re: SouthEast - route in progress
My understanding is that the Class 71s were initially built as straight "electric" locos, before a number were converted to "electro-diesel" in the D6xxx series as Class 74s. E5014 wasn't one of these and was withdrawn circa 1968.

Re: SouthEast - route in progress
There will be no 3rd rail, but the route is able to take electric stock. We already have EMU's in activities at Sevenoaks as this area was electrified pre-war. However the semaphore signals - and a lot of the Signal Boxes - were removed by mid-1962 so this is the time limit of the route. Steam services East of Ashford ceased in June 1961 but there is still the opportunity for activities using electric and diesel stock ( and also steam to and from Tonbridge ) for the period 1961/62. It's not a high priority for me - but anyone interested in this period would be able to make activities after route release.

Hi Danny,
This takes me back to my childhood - standing with my sisters overlooking the ferry, trains and cranes etc. One thing they also used to do was hoist cars onto the ferries with those cranes - any chance of this being included?
Your screenshots really show what a brilliant route this will be!

The cranes are not my models Stephen, but I'll have a look to see if I can remove the grab bucket by using alphas.....if it's possible then I could make a car lift attachment and add one of DocMartin's cars......we'll see if it can be done.

Re: SouthEast - route in progress
Well I was unable to use alphas to remove the grab bucket, but I thought I might get around this by putting the bucket inside the car. So I made the carlift and added a car but unfortunately the grab-bucket was just too large and showed above - a shame as it looked quite good I thought. The only way I can hide the bucket is to use an ambulance or van, but I don't think this looks quite the same.....

Hi Danny,
Thanks for trying, it looks quite good to me - a van will probably be more realistic than the ambulance and definitely better than the grab which I don't remember seeing. However it was a long time ago - mid to late1950's.

Stephen

Hi Danny, still breathing and although my new partner has taken priority over MSTS, I am still following your progress. You know you can count me in for whatever decision is made on how the route will be released. This year my new partner will be moving in with me, so I am a bit tied up with moving things and sorting everything out. Not much time for getting into MSTS as much as I would like at the moment, but once we are settled, I will be back on track Keep at it Danny, the end is almost in sight.

Hi Geoff, good to hear you're still on the scene.
Yes the end is almost in sight........only around 8 miles of scenery to add now........but there's still quite a few items on a "to do" list to finish. And then there's Seasonal textures to make. Around 30 activities have been made and tested, so gradually it's all coming together.

I appreciate the comments, thanks. The route should be virtually completed in the next couple of weeks, but then there are still seasonal textures to be made. Unfortunately I'm in the process of moving and it's unlikely I'll have much time for the PC until late September. Still hoping for release by the end of the year though.
