Problems with Resuming after Save when using Simple Controls & Physics
Hi,
On another thread, Nick reported that, sometimes, when using Simple Controls & Physics set to True, the 'Resume' fails with a 'Fatal Error' - the actual reason varies and has been seen to be any of the following :
(a) Object reference not set to an instance of an object
(b) The path is not of a legal form
(c) Unable to read beyond the end of the stream
(d) Illegal characters in path
(e) Index was outside bounds of array
One particular activity affected is Dover Goods for the South East Steam route, which I have concentrated on, for now!
The loco (33036) has the task of collecting wagons from various sidings but, again, I have only concentrated on the first pick-up.
There are 9 wagons in this pick-up, the braking system on most are Vacuum-Piped but a couple are Vacuum_Single_Pipe. The loco has Vacuum_Single_Pipe brakes.
The Vacuum-Piped wagons are those causing the problem when Simple Controls & Physics is set to True.
Another activity with a similar problem is MC-BrakeVanSpecial activity in the MidEast Coast route. All the brakevans are Vacuum Piped and the loco (69003) is Vacuum_Single_Pipe.
I tested with another loco (MEP-Austerity060NCB66) which has :
and this :
The Open Rails 'Resume' function seems to accept 'Vacuum-Piped' and, even, Air Braked vehicles when coupled to this loco!
Just to make clear, these 'Fatal Errors' do not occur FOR THIS REASON if Simple Controls & Physics is set to 'False'. 'Fatal Error' could well be displayed for other reasons.
The above applies to the following versions of Open Rails : Stable 1.5.1, Testing 1.5.1-974 and ORNYMG v155 although the reason for the error varies between the versions.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Problems with Resuming after Save when using Simple Controls & Physics
Hi Ged
I had a feeling it could be something to do with the brakes but I lacked your knowledge and tenacity!
I can't thank you enough for getting to the bottom of this problem, which up to now has been stopping me from running any freight activities on UK routes as I had simple controls activated..
I'm wondering if any of the OR guys monitor this forum and have noted this?
Regards,
Nick.

Hi Nick,
I have 'expanded' my previous post slightly!!
I don't know if the OR team monitors any Forums on TSSH, but I'll post on 'Maybe it's a bug' on Elvastower.
Cheers,
Ged
Edit : I've now posted on Elvastower

Hi Ged,
Yes the ' Maybe Its a bug' channel over on Elvas Tower sounds like a good idea. I think you've covered all the important stuff and they should have more than enough info to look into it and hopefully sort it out.
It's certainly made the last couple of days interesting!
Thanks again mate.
