Re: London and Port Stanley
Hi Roger,
I installed that route when the 'mini' version became available but haven't run much on it (yet).
I've just tried the L&PS E1 Express Motorcar on the path starting at Glanworth and heading North. The brakes work OK.
HINT!! When the route opens, the default starting point is '_Incline Railway' heading to '_Inclined Top'. PLEASE do not use that path otherwise you'll just soon be rolling down the hill!! You are right that, in that situation, the brakes have no effect! I think it may be because Open Rails seems to have problems with steep railways - remember the trouble we had a little while ago with the Snowdon Mountain Railway?
If you're having problems with other locos and/or activities, please give more details.
Cheers,
Ged
That's rather a sweeping statement, mate.nothing has any Brakes

Re: London and Port Stanley
Hi Roger,
Yes, I agree with you that the units shown in your screenshots have no brakes!!
As the route and stock were originally created for MSTS, I'll try it in that sim later to check the brakes. It they work OK then it would seem that they need a little 'tweaking' for use in Open Rails.
Cheers,
Ged
EDIT : The brakes DO work in MSTS!!

Re: London and Port Stanley
Here's the fix as posted at TrainSim
find all instances of "BrakeCylinderPressureForMaxBrakeBrakeForce ( 0.50 )" and replace that 0.5 with something more sensible like 50psi (technically, the limit should probably be higher than that even but multiplying by 100 makes the math easier), then also change the "MaxBrakeForce" to account for the increase in pressure (in this case, multiply by 100).

Re: London and Port Stanley
Hi Eric,
Thanks for that (I must have missed it!) but those changes don't help!
The brake system is set to 'Air_twin_pipe' but I have a vague memory that Open Rails doesn't process that correctly. When changed to 'Air_single_pipe' the brakes do work but could be better! Multiplying the MaxBrakeForce by 200 seems to improve the braking.
Tested using Open Rails Stable v1.5.1 and LPSNo2.eng

Ged

Re: London and Port Stanley
Well thank you both for that, and I'm sorry for being so slow in replying, but I've had a lovely day out on the NHS.
Now having got that out of the way, I must admit I'm at least happy that for once maybe it wasn't down to me, I only D/L OR now as the Old Girl just refused to work for me
and as we all know I'm not quite PC Wizz (wise) and altering those things would be beyond my capabilities (if I could even find them)......Neanderthal (by name and knowledge)

Hi Roger,
I could send my updated files to you but I think they can be made better, so maybe we should wait a bit.
I've only done the LPSNo2* to LPSNo10* files in LPSNo2 folder and haven't checked the others - they may also require modification!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: London and Port Stanley
A most kind offer Ged.Thank you. I'll keep the Route on my PC then and await any assistance from you. There's no great rush though so don't put yourself out.
The Route in itself does appear to be well done though, so it's something to look forward to .. Neandethal

Re: London and Port Stanley
Hi Roger and Ged,
Please find below a .eng file for the loco illustrated in Rogers screenshots. It is loosly based on my Southern Region EMU's. I have copied and pasted it in full in an effort to make it's use as easy as possible, so apologies for the amount of space taken up.
I have tried to use as much of the original data as possible.
The engine section could no doubt be further improved by the inclusion of traction curve tables but that would take me a bit more time and maybe for another day.
Anyway this .eng file works on my Dorset Coast testing route Ok ( I do not have the LPS route installed ATM) so should work on other systems. Open Rails Only though

Re: London and Port Stanley
Hi Terry,
Thank you!! That's very good, stopping how I would expect it to!
I've only checked the No2 motor car by itself and must now make sure the other vehicles in Roger's consist have matching braking parameters.
I put your complete .eng file in an OpenRails folder within the LPSNo2 stock folder so it wouldn't affect its running in MSTS, but that's only necessary if MSTS is also used!!.
Well Done
Cheers,
Ged

Re: London and Port Stanley
Hi Ged
and thanks for " the thanks"
I am sure that most of the other stock would benefit from a Physics makeover.
I have to thank and acknowledge Darwin Smith for his work on the brakes and physics on a lot of OR stock all of wich I think are availabe to download from this site, from his download section. I only copy and paste his values into my own .eng and .wag files so that the files contain cosistant values.
I still use MSTS and so like yourself have an OR "include" file in each item of rolling stock. This however only contains the following
for example
SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0D0t______
Wagon ( ccw_br_q_30534_EC
Type ( Engine )
WagonShape ( ccw_br_q_30534_EC.s )
Size ( 2.592501m 3.975m 9.12m )
FreightAnim ( "..\\common.headcodes\\CCW_o1\\Headcode_19.s" 0 3.0 0.0 )
Individual Lighting Section
Then
Include ( "..\\..\\Common_Locomotives\\Steam\\BR_S\\BR_Q\\wagon.inc" )
Engine ( ccw_br_q_30534_EC
Include ( "..\\..\\Common_Locomotives\\Steam\\BR_S\\BR_Q\\engine.inc" )
Name ( "ccw_br_q_30534_EC" )
Description ( etc etc
All of the other data are in two Common.Files
The same format for Tenders, Carriages, Passengers etc.
This means that say ten locos in a folder can all look to the same data written only once whilst retaining their own file for shape, size. lights and animations. It also simplifies any changes that may become neccesary needing only one change instead of ten
Again thanks for the kind words,
All the best
Terry

Re: London and Port Stanley
Thank you Terry (I think),sorry to take so long in replying, but I haven't got a clue what any of that means, and rather than Male Chicken everything up I will probably just uninstall the Route..Neanderthal

Re: London and Port Stanley
No need to apologise for helping people Terry, I doubt you've confused anyone (except me, obviously). Thats why I use the name "Neanderthal",though even they would have been better at this PC thing than I .
