Vacuum brakes for OR
I am trying to put together a document that will hopefully help OR users to create reasonably accurate eng and wag files in the future.

Re: Vacuum brakes for OR
Vacuum brakes have arrived.
http://www.elvastower.com/forums/index.php?/topic/31481-vacuum-brakes/
I hope all will agree that significant improvements are now possible compared to MSTS.
Some information about what is possible now (particularly improved brake controllers):

Re: Vacuum brakes for OR
Hi darwins,
This looks to be a much needed improvement to the vacuum brakes. I'll definitely be trying it but at the moment it will have to be restricted to my personal use until such time as rolling stock is made available with these improvements.
Regards,
Stephen

Re: Vacuum brakes for OR
I will be updating my own rolling stock soon.
I hope some other content creators will do the same.
There is also the possibility of making "unofficial patches" for existing content.

Re: Vacuum brakes for OR
I believe that MSTS ignores the ORTSxxxx Lines in a .wag file. But are the modified OR .wag and .eng files compatable with MSTS?
It would help if there was a sample .wag file that I could use as a basis to update my wagons.
Even better would be new content for the TSM Resources folder which is the starting point for all my .wag files.

Re: Vacuum brakes for OR
Hi Ian
There is a clever trick to having your wagons work in both MSTS and ORTS without causing any problems to either.
Leave the MSTS wag files alone. Don't change anything. MSTS will use those.
Create a folder called OpenRails inside your stock folder.
Put the new Open Rails wag files in the OpenRails folder and Open Rails will use those instead of the MSTS ones.
Here is an example OR file for one of your wagons:

Re: Vacuum brakes for OR
Hi Darwin,
I've used this basic method for some time now but without adding all the new Open Rails parameters. It also has the advantage of being able to use different settings for the brake gauges etc. by having a separate Open Rails Cabview option and retaining the MSTS one when running in MSTS ( something I rarely do these days.
A useful extra would be if the brake settings etc. could go down a common.brakes route which would save a lot of time setting up each individual item of stock and save space. Any thoughts on this idea?
The latest X4032 of Open Rails has vastly improved the way that steam vacuum brakes work.
Regards,
Stephen

Re: Vacuum brakes for OR
It should now be possible to do common.brakes or common.whatever.you.want for similar rolling stock.
I have not quite got my head around it yet, but this can be done in OR using INCLUDE statements and files.
Have a read of this thread in Elvas Towers.Include File Standards

Hi Darwin,
Thanks for the link - it certainly gives a lot of food for thought.
