Three-Step Brakes
Is it possible to set up the engine controllers to replicate the three-step brake in modern EMUs?

Re: Three-Step Brakes
I have a feeling you are referring to eng files for EMUs with a combined throttle/brake.I have not yet managed to sort them out but for EMUs and DMUs with separate throttle and brake,e.g Class 321,315 and SR EMUs my files work just like a 3 step brake.For diesels MT included eng files (I think with the SCE route) which give an air brake which gives a correct initial application and then possible to "inch" on and off,which replicates exactly the PBL brake on modern diesel locos.

Re: Three-Step Brakes
I have not discovered any units with convincing three-step brakes, though all the modern units are easy to drive with their self-lapping electro-pneumatic brakes.
When on the juice I mostly drive pre-1948 Southern Electrics with non-self-lapping Westinghouse brakes.
Brake_Train ( 0 0.99 0.0475 0.65
NumNotches( 4
Notch ( 0.0 1 TrainBrakesControllerReleaseStart )
Notch ( 0.05 0 TrainBrakesControllerHoldStart )
Notch ( 0.2 1 TrainBrakesControllerFullServiceStart )
Notch ( 0.95 0 TrainBrakesControllerEmergencyStart )
)
)
That is not easy nor, apparently, were the real ones, though drivers acquired great skill in using the Westinghouse brake.

Re: Three-Step Brakes
If I can work out how to do it,I will post the brake parameters for my SR EMUs which are pretty close to the EP brake.Drivers were instructed to use the Westinghouse on a regular basis to stay in touch with it,Needed more skill than the EP.

Three -Step Brakes
I have just bought a very good second-hand book called Southern Electric Driver by Tim Wood, who was based at Brighton. He drove the 1963 and 1967 stocks, CIGs, CEPs and VEPs. Very interesting.
