She's really struggling here with only 6 on!

Hi Ben,
But yours is a much chunkier loco with smaller driving wheels, much more suited to the terrain!
It's a case of (iron) horses for courses, I suppose  Shocked  Smile

Now, if you'd show me a Black 5 (or similar) "doing it right" ........

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ben,
Well done, mate!! I've got no answer - except probably blame the weather in my clip (sounds of scraping barrel!!).

Ged

Hi,
The comment in my last post may not have been so far out after all!  I don't know what the weather was like on the 11th, but for a video taken the following day, the maker states that it was "fine drizzle".
This video was taken on the same day - the video-maker states it's at the end of his day and shows 7812 Earlestoke Manor having a horrendous time getting out of Keighley!
http://vod.com.ng/en/video/NMgViVuKcLo/7812-struggles-on-the-climb-from-Keighley-111013
The second video was taken by the same person earlier in the day where the loco had no trouble!
http://vod.com.ng/en/video/5dlust4m1nQ/7812-makes-a-great-sound-leaving-Keighley-111013

The GWR Manors & Castles are my second favourite loco types - they look quite diminutive compared with the express passenger locomotives of the LMS and LNER, yet are capable of great performance.

The website hosting these videos has several more from the same weekend.  One of interest is 45305 leaving Keighley on the 12th with only very slight slipping ....  but pulling only 4 coaches!!

Cheers,
Ged

Ged,

first video it's looks like 7812 was having a grumpy moment. You do know all steam loco's are ladies nice as pie one minute bad tempered the next.

listen to these lner beasts

Hi Ben,
Ooooooooh dear!!  I do hope there aren't any ladies watching this Forum, otherwise you may well get a few messages  Evil or Very Mad

On the other hand, I thought the locos in your clips were very well behaved!  Especially the B1 - conditions didn't look very good, but she, and her fireman, were working very hard!  I didn't hear her lose her feet (or cool) during the whole clip!  Or did the two separate whistle tones have a special meaning to those in the know?!!

Very enjoyable, thank you Smile

Cheers,
Ged

A really nice selection of Videos chaps! As a fireman I would have been doing my nut in that first video!!! lol - Many a time have I had a rough trip with 34007 in good and bad weather and had good trips all the same with 35005 in the same weather conditions! I know which I would choose...
Cheers

Being a Volunteer at the Worth Valley i know how hard that climb out of Keighley is but its not so much the climb but the sharpness of the corner many visiting locos have come unstuck there very much on a damp day one that i remember recently was the N2 with the first passenger service of the day with only 3 on struggled here's my video of it

Hi Ben,
Ay, she's a beauty!!
... but why did they have to give her a fictitious number and the old BR totem?

Way back in 2009, I downloaded a few videos of her at the Churnet Valley Railway - I'm sure she was doing more than 25mph in some shots!!  This one is a short one from the footplate :

We seem to have gone astray from the thread's title, but as I started it, I suppose I'm allowed to  Very Happy

Ged

Good video of a fantastic sounding loco Ben that seems to hold it's own on even the steepest banks!  Very Happy
But getting back on topic to 45305 - Here are a fantastic set of sequences of the loco on 60mph TPO trials!! This is a fantastic piece of footage IMHO!

Enjoy!

Cheers
