Hi Nick,
I agree Smile I should have pointed out that the values I showed were after running 0.8004. I didn't think at the time that v0.8001 would be any different, but, out of pure interest, I ran it. My sizes exactly match yours.

Also, inadvertently, I failed to set WriteTDB to 'False' when re-running v0.8004. This resulted in the .tdb, .tit, .rit and .rdb files being rewritten with, seemingly, minor changes, but changing their sizes.
As I didn't make any changes to the route, it should not have rewritten ANY files!

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,

Well that explains the small differences in size in those altered files then.

Can you just confirm as to whether you have AI trains running past that Ashford signal or are they held up?   ( when your World files are corrupted by the TSRE ).  If it's the former then I have a separate problem on my setup.

Regards,

Nick

Hi Nick,
I have now reported the problems to Eric.

As you reported that your train wasn't held up when you used v0.7012, I'm 98% certain that the problem is caused by TSRE v8 modifying files when it shouldn't.
However, I will run it later today.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,

Okay mate. It will be interesting to see what Eric can make of it.

I can now reinstall my original clean copy of the route and also TSRE 0.7012! Smile

Regards,

Nick.

Hi Nick,
I ran TSRE v0.8004 and saved the three files.
After checking that the files had been re-written I ran the activity up to completion of the Shorncliffe shunt (05:37).  I didn't see the mail train (Dover 01). Originally it passed me at 05:21, some time before I got to Shorncliffe.
I switched to the mail train and it does appear to be stuck, but there's no signal displayed.
The milk train is still travelling along until it gets stopped at the signal just behind the mail train.

Therefore, I'm certain that the problem stems from TSRE corrupting files.

Of course, it could be some setting/s we're missing so, yes, it will be interesting to see what Eric comes up with!  At this moment, I wouldn't recommend using TSRE v8 for anything concerning a route.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,

Manty thanks for checking that. I was a little concerned it might be something else with my setup although I was fairly sure it was all down to the TSRE issue, as you had previously said.

I will be sticking to the TRSE v0.7 installation for the foreseeable future - It does all I want it to do, which is basically just adding small pieces of 'eye candy' to a route.

I'll see you again when the next query comes up! Smile

Nick

Hi Nick,
OK, mate, but I think this one's got quite a way to run yet!!

Also, the settings file seems to be a bit of a mish-mash making it difficult to find a particular setting.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,

Yes I agree about the settings file being all over the place.

Anyway if anything else comes up regarding the TSRE problem that I can help with then just let me know. It's certainly been an interesting exercise so far! Smile

Nick

Hi Nick,
I'll keep you updated regarding TSRE.

Eric has replied to my message :

Not really sure why it would be doing that. If there was a problem with the signal and AutoFix was set, the TDB update will still happen. I suspect WriteTDB is really only protecting you from track and road piece updates.

Best thing I can suggest is to set debug options to true, run that sequence of events, and send me the zipped logfile. That'll tell me more that the screenshots do.

He hasn't really addressed the case of why the World files are being completely rewritten, omitting sections, but we'll take it one step at a time!

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,

Thanks for the update.

Hopefully you understand more of Eric's message than my poor old brain does!  Smile

He says about the tdb only affecting track and road sections being altered so presumably when I added those wagons to the track at Dover docks that didn't count as a change to the track.

And you're right, he doesn't appear to address the World files and missing shape files issue at all.

Regards,

Nick

Hi Nick,
Being a programmer, I expect that anyone reporting problems with any of my programs would be using the latest version available!!
Following that premise, as TSRE 0.8005e is now available, I've run my same test with that.

Opened TSRE as before, moved the view around a bit then closed it. It didn't want to save ANY files!! The World files were NOT rewritten!

As I've got a hospital appointment this afternoon, I'm going off-line now, so may I ask you to test 8005e and see if Dover 01 and 02 run correctly in the Dover Goods activity?
You can get it here : https://www.trainsim.com/forums/forum/open-rails/tsre-route-editor/2309451-testing-v8-005

I should be back later!

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,

Firstly I hope your hospital appointment went all right. Also I hope the hospital visit was in no way caused by any strain connected with the TSRE problem! Smile

So, I downloaded TSRE 0.8005e and ran it, observing:

1) Ashford signals all appear correctly in their entirety.

2) I exited the programme and observed no attempts to save anything, which was correct.

3) Ran TSRE again and this time I placed the same loose consist as before in the same location as before, observing that, correctly, only the one change was saved upon exiting.

4) Ran OR in 'Dover Goods' activity and observed that both AI 01 and 02 ran past the Ashford signals correctly.

So this version seems okay mate. However I think I'll continue running v0.7012 for a while - just to make sure.....

Regards,

Nick

Hi Nick,
Thanks - everything went OK. No, it's nothing to do with TSRE!!

Referring to which - That's excellent news Smile
It's just a bit odd that nobody seems to have reported those problems when using 0.8001 through to 0.8004 - it can't be that South East Steam is a unique route, in some way!

It's your decision to stick with v0.7012 but at least you know now that 0.8005e works properly. I'll advise Eric that we are both satisfied that the errors reported are no more!

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Nick,
As the settings file with v0.8005e is totally different to that supplied with v0.8004e, I did another test.
Replaced the v0.8005e settings file with that from v0.8004e and ran v0.8005e. Did just the same as before and when I closed TSRE5, it wanted to save those same 3 World files - I didn't, but it would seem to show where the problem lies!

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,

Yes it's pretty conclusive by now isn't it?

I'm now using that latest version, 0.8005e with fingers and toes crossed! Smile
