Locomotive Patriot 5511 behaving strangely
Hi All
This is truly weird and I cannot figure out what I have done wrong.
I have been trying to run in explore mode LMS Patriot 5511 hauling consist LMS Gen Passenger on BBS's 1930 Black Country Route. After releasing the brakes, setting the gear and opening the throttle, the wheels spin wildly, and left to its own devices the train has broken the sound barrier, incredibly with no coal in the tender.
In this image the train is travelling at a modest 72 mph, it can't keep up with its own smoke, the coal has all been used up, the wheels are slipping on 5% throttle, and the steam usage is over 6 million lb per hour. I haven't tinkered with any of 5511's files.
I was trying to get my head around OR's Timetable editor, using this particular consist, and got the same result. Naturally I assumed it was my ineptness with the timetable editor, until I tried a straightforward run using Explore.
Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone else replicate it?
The LMS could have left the LNER A4 pacifics miles behind with this engine. 123 mph? nothing to it, we can do that even with a Patriot.
Regards
Tony

Re: Locomotive Patriot 5511 behaving strangely
Hello Tony, I had the same thing a long time ago. Now I'm not very technical but the answer was something to do with the Cylinder size on the loco.
The answer then was to alter Cylinder Diameter from ( 18) to (18in)
That was found to be a fault when on OR,as OR couldn't work out what 18 meant.
I hope I haven't confused the issue....Roger.

Hi Roger
Your solution worked! Also the cylinder volume was without units, which I put in too.
Just bad luck that I used this consist to trial my first attempt at a timetable in OR - spent most of the day tring to find out what was wrong with the timetable
Many thanks
Tony

I had that problem and ignored it at the time. I have just checked and at least one of the other Patriots has the same problem.

One answer might be to try a new Patriot. 5547 is available now. More will follow later. https://tsshonline.weebly.com/darwins.html

Glad it worked for you Tony, but it wasn't my solution.I cannot honestly remember who found it for me (but could probably guess)It does show though how the Members of this group help one another...Roger

Thanks everyone for your interest!
@Roger - helping is who we are!
@Darwin - 5547 is going to be in use shortly. That is a beautiful portrait of a magnificent engine - and a first-class model - thanks Darwin!
@Jonathan - I'll check my Patriots - this was the first I've had any problem with.
