Yet another nail in Windows 7??? Empty Yet another nail in Windows 7???

Being "mature" and somewhat set in my ways I still use Windows 7 as my operating system!
Today I had a note on my computer when I opened my Google account saying that in early 2023 Google updates will not support Windows 7, although the latest relevant updated version will still work!

Alec, I shouldn't worry. Two well-established computer engineers told me to make sure I had a good anti-virus and firewall and Malwarebytes installed and ignore updates. I am still running Windows 7 as it was installed, and I have a second computer for printing that is running Windows XP. So far I have survived. Some people, I am sure, will be horrified.

At present I am plucking up courage to upload a locomotive I built last year.

Very best wished for Christmas,

Roderic

Hi Roderic
Many thanks for the Christmas wishes, which I reciprocate.
I wasn't too worried but thought I would mention it anyway.
In some ways it seems like a "nudge" to get us to move onto Windows 10, although I believe that there is a Windows 11 on the horizon. I've already had enough of the Government's nudges - they actually have a Nudge Department - with respect to Covid, etc.
Take care and all the best, Alec

Hi Alec, my computer has two Hard Drives, it was built in 2012 using Win 7 and has Google Chrome installed, I'm getting
sick of the message that you need Win 10 at least to get further updates.
Looking on Google there is a way to alter the Registry so that this message is hidden but I'm not happy at present to follow
the intructions so I will pop down to Computer Know How and speak to the guy who rebuilt my computer and re-did a Boot
menu for me.
On start up I get a screen that allows me to choose whether I want the Win 7 operating system for normal usage, unfortunately
Kaspersky not longer supports either Win 7 or XP but they did sent me a copy of file that still works with Win 7 and it still
updates this file every year when I re-new my licence.
The screen allows me to use other 2006 Hard-Drive which is from my old computer and this has Win XP installed so that I can
still use MSTS on it, but because of the above problem, I had to get Mazolla Firefox installed to protect the computer when using
the older operating system.
I only use Win 7 when I want to search the Internet and so I will get back on here after my visit to Computer Know How so cannot
alter the lines to remove this information bar.

Hi Bob,
I, too, was reluctant to relinquish Windows 7 so ran with dual booting into Win 7 and Win 10.

After more than a year of not using Win 7, except very rarely, mainly to do some testing, late last year I decided to remove the Win 7 boot option.

I have honestly not missed it and, once I got used to the slight differences between Win 7 and Win 10, think the latter is better.  As far as MSTS is concerned, the rules for installing and running it are the same.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can get a free Win 10 upgrade from Win 7 so need to purchase a key, I suggest you take the plunge and get Win 10  installed before we're all stuck with Win 11!!  I built my PC several years ago and it won't run Win 11!!

Cheers,
Ged

Hi Alec and Ged, just got back from Computer Know-How and Colin who rebuilt my computer advises me to
just live with it.
The instructions I got from doing a search about this message did not match the way my Registry Files as the ones
relating to Google and Chome as they are missing so Colin said that it could cause no end of problems if I amended
my set up to match what I should do.
