Chilterns V2 download issue
I've been trying to download the Chilterns V2 route, but I've hit a problem.
Each time I try to download, it gets to about 3.3GB, and then the download fails - it stops and writes a 3.3GB Zip file, which is unreadable. I've tried several times, and it always happens at about the same point. I've even tried saving a copy to my own Dropbox and downloading from there, but the same happens. I'm not on the fastest connection around, and the predicted download time is three hours, so it's failing at about the 1-hour mark each time.
Any suggestions what the issue could be and how to solve it?
Adrian.

Re: Chilterns V2 download issue
Remembering back to the days of dial up connections, there were programs called "Download Managers" that could stitch together several attempts without losing them. Not sure if you could still find such a program or if it would help you.

Thanks for the suggestions, but FDM doesn't seem to work with Dropbox downloads.

Re: Chilterns V2 download issue
I have had one other report of problems with downloading my Chiltern v2. I strongly suggest, Adrian, that you install the GitHub Desktop application and use that to "clone" the route from GitHub.com. GitHub desktop is obtainable at https://desktop.github.com/ It is a much more reliable way of downloading the route and also has the advantage that it allows you to keep updated with any additions I make to the route by downloading just the changes and not the whole route over again. Remember that the route is still a work-in-progress and I am constantly adding scenery to it.
If you do choose to adopt this solution, don't hesitate to contact me if you have problems understanding the ins and outs of GitHub.
Good luck!
Martin

It took me a couple of attempts to get the hang of it, but GitHub worked OK.

If you have got the hang of Git Hub now, you must try down loading Rick Loader's New Forest route for Open Rails. It is impressive.

Hi Roger,
You can always click the "Advanced" button, but I've just successfully clicked the link Darwin supplied.
Cheers,

Re: Chilterns V2 download issue
Hi All,
There have been a few reports of late that there are issues downloading the Chilterns route files as it is considerably large at 10.3Gb.
I have asked Martin and he has kindly let me upload the route as an 11 part split zip file that extracts to be the full 10.3Gb file.
I have kept these parts down to under 1Gb in size to make it easier for downloading.
By the way, has anybody had any problems downloading the MidEast file 3?
I have 1 person constantly telling me that their download has failed.
I have tried it on a few different machines and have had no issues, but I am curious to hear feedback on this.
Reagrds,
Justin

Re: Chilterns V2 download issue
Hi Justin,
Just download the MidEastCoast route, all 4 parts, without any problem.
At 973 MB, Part 3 is appreciably larger than the others, and took me about 5 minutes to download.
The only difference being that I received two messages :
"This file is too big to preview" and "The maximum size for .zip files is 512 MB"
After that, you have a different button to press to get the download - middle bottom of screen instead of top left.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Chilterns V2 download issue
Hi Ged,
Thank you for confirming that the file works!
I can only test on a few machines but it is good to know that it works on the other side of the world too....
Regards,
Justin

Re: Chilterns V2 download issue
Used Github yesterday for the first time to download New Forest route (excellent work).
So i am far from having a clue how it works. Just started downloading Chiltern v2 using the GH desktop app.
Question is please, is the whole route downloaded from GH or just the updates. As you all probably know NF is the full route.
But i am unsure if Chiltern needs to have the v2 files from UKTS as well.
Thanks boys, sorry to be a pain.
EDIT: Sorted thank you. Dumbo here just needed to try running the route.
Mike.
