Re: I am having a new set of troubles with my Great Eastern Routes
Hi,
Please don't worry - I think it's safe to say that we're all here to help
Yes, I spotted a great number of Warning messages when I installed Great Eastern into Open Rails yesterday. And, yes, they are "only" warnings so OR should still run, but it may be that some elements of the route don't show correctly. As far as the signals are concerned, they might not be operational.
Cheers,
Ged

Seeing a wall of errors like that is quite disheartening, so it is just something one must live with or is it somehow fixable?

Re: I am having a new set of troubles with my Great Eastern Routes
HI,
I agree that it's not very encouraging, but it's due to Open Rails not working in exactly the same way as MSTS. MSTS is very forgiving of a number of types of errors! I suggest you try running some of the activities and see how they run. There are also differences in how AI (ie Traffic or non-Player) trains are controlled which can result in activities not running as the original author intended.
As for fixing those warnings. Anything is fixable, providing you can find 'somebody' who has a good knowledge of how routes are constructed. It's quite an old route and, sorry, but I doubt if many would be willing to tackle the task.
You did say that you'd got MSTS installed. If it's compatible with your system and can be run, why don't you try running GE with it? If you require any help in that respect, please start another, more suitable, thread and we'll try to get you going
Cheers,
Ged

Re: I am having a new set of troubles with my Great Eastern Routes
Believe it or not. The line from Norwich goes to Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft is on the W files but not on the TDB. This is the first time I have seen someone else to spot this in a round about way.
The cause of these errors from the log file are from this "extension" and makes no difference to the correct working of the actual route and as Ged said, can be safely ignored.
I would never have spotted this extension under MSTS. It's only when I wanted to correct these errors from the OR log from a few years ago, I stumbled upon all this extensive track work. My guess was the MT team was giving us another extension of this great route, but for reasons unknown, it never happened!
Thanks

Can some clever person complete the section in order that it will work ?

I'm unsure if the track pieces on the W files can be rebuild onto the TDB. Someone with more route making skills can answer this. As for scenery, what I remember was a few signals, and if the route markers are in place, it would be a straight forward job of where to add bridges, rivers, stations etc. The good news is that the track pieces are scenery objects, so in theory, you can follow this and add new track placements, so you know exactly where to go.
As for the new stations, shapes etc, it is fairly easy to customize a lot of scenery objects from existing shapes on the route. I've done this countless of times of routes that I have.
As MT are no longer on the market, it would be an unofficial patch, and providing the existing TDB is stable, it will not interfere with the Greater Eastern route as well as existing paths in all the activities that were ever made for GE.
Maybe one of the ex MT team could answer your question 100%( Or as Ged would say - Correctly ) !
Thanks

Re: I am having a new set of troubles with my Great Eastern Routes
Hi coolhand101,
The markers appear to be present from Norwich to Lowestoft and I've no reason not to believe that Great Yarmouth is also included.
Most of the markers are labelled "Unknown" while a few have station names and others have mileage labels.
There also seem to be markers towards Cromer, but I could be mistaken - I got rather dizzy trying to follow all of them!!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: I am having a new set of troubles with my Great Eastern Routes
Hi Ged
Yes it's been a couple of years since I last went over this "extension". I was certain route markers were placed, but could not remember exactly. So thanks for that clarification, also about Cromer as well.
It would of been a great extension though!
