Woodstock-Wagon.Co.UK
Think I'll Join in and let you know what I'm up to.
Been taking a break from repainting coaches to play with the new routes.
The Thames Trent route is great fun. Tried several activities but when I got to the Condor act I was dissapointed with the wagon.
I had a plate wagon half done so I completed it,
Added bolsters to make the double and am about to do the Trestle version.
Then, Like BR, I stripped off the body and made the Conflat P.
They will be uploaded to UKTS when the paint drys.

Re: Woodstock-Wagon.Co.UK
Sorry Ian,
As you could tell, i'm no wagon builder . Give me a patch of terrain and a few trees...... no problem.
Looking forward to being able to use the new wagons on a re-worked Condor.
Cheers

Re: Woodstock-Wagon.Co.UK
After the entire staff (me) was laid low with strain, Woodstock Wagon Works are back in business.
Now awaiting approval by UKTS inspectors are a batch of plate wagons.
These will be followed by the Conflat P wagons as used on the Condor as well as a 75mph roller bearing brake van for use on this and other fast freights.

Re: Woodstock-Wagon.Co.UK
Those brake vans look really good Ian
And yes I always read the readme too
When I was young I lived on a farm within sight of the WCML and I noticed all the different brake vans on the passing goods trains, most were BR standard (or ex-LNER) and ex-LMS types, though I saw most types at one time or other, the only ones I don't ever remember seeing were the GWR toads, the first time I saw those was on a holiday to Devon.
I occasionally saw some LMS Brake vans where the open platform was closed off (similar to the sharks, but not one of those) I loaded an LMS van into Shape viewer and took a screenshot, then made a copy of it and doctored it too look similar to how I remembered them.
Then I came across a photo of one in google images, though I suspect that this one has been modified for H&S reasons as it is used to give people rides at (or near) Shildon.
And another (probably more prototypical) one here, except they were mostly BR brown colour when I saw them.
I remember looking through the file library for this variant, but no one has made one, my modelling skills aren't good enough to build one, or I would have a go myself.

Ian
Very nice models. I'll put my hand up and admit to not always reading the READMEs, and hence I can testify that that is a short sighted approach!

Yes.
A lot of people don't read them. The amount of times someone has asked me a question and the answer was in the readme file...

Re: Woodstock-Wagon.Co.UK
Hi Ian,
A very useful addition to the brake van fleet,I will definitely use them, especially when MEP+ comes out.
Some new LMS and Ex LMS brake vans wouldn't go amiss at some time, thank you for all your freight wagons you have made in the past, and for the repainted coaches you have done for the BR era.
I will admit that I hardly ever read the readme that come with your models,as they nearly always work straight out of the box.
Mike

Re: Woodstock-Wagon.Co.UK
I would suspect the doors on the LMS vans were added in preservation.
I certainly never saw any when I worked as a guard.
A simple hinged iron bar blocked the entrance.
The GWR vans had the brake wheel in the open balcony and were hated by guards. The only one I ever encountered turned up on at Motherwell and an older guard and myself got a lift on it to Mossend.
The first thing he did was to put the coupling pole through the window.
At Mossend the examiner labeled it "Home depot for repair" and it was sent south in the middle of a train.
How it got as far as Scotland is a mystery. No non GW man would take it and even a faithful GW servant preferred the BR type.

Re: Woodstock-Wagon.Co.UK
Those LMS vans with the doors were definitely in regular service during the 60's & 70's and into the 80's, on the WCML, we also used to see the southern brake vans too, they were nearly always painted up nice with lining on them.

Re: Woodstock-Wagon.Co.UK
I've been re-reading this thread and realized that I had completely forgotten about the Condor conflats.
This has now been rectified along with a roller bearing brakevan which ran with these wagons.
These vans were permitted to run at 75MPH but don't over do it or the guard will be after you with a brake stick - they were scary at that speed. (the vans that is)
I have some freelance 4 wheelers to upload to match the bogie wagons. Has anybody tried to repaint them?

Just in case anybody was wondering what I am up to.
I've been building Southern coaches for Danny's route but here's the first one for all the other routes out there.

Hi
Ian that looks really good I can remember the Maunsells being used on the Swanage Branch from Wareham in the 1950s.
I was wondering if you will be making any of the Maunsell catering vehicles.
Thank you for making new Southern Coaches.

As is to be expected these coaches are looking good. It's always so pleasing to see new MSTS stock in development.

Re: Woodstock-Wagon.Co.UK
Coming soon.
Engineers 15ton crane.
Just to do the stringing up and finish the chassis and the jib runner
These cranes were the most common type used on the railways.
They spent the week pottering about the engineers yard and were let out at the weekend laying track panels.
The also found work planting signals and electrification masts and all sorts of lifting work.
One photo I have see has one holding up a platform canopy while the suport post was replaced.
Most were built with steam drive but were converted to diesel in the 50s.

This looks like an interesting model. Is it going to be like the one that's located at Embsay?

Re: Woodstock-Wagon.Co.UK
On the subject of cranes - is anyone aware that I built a set of accident cranes for the NSW Govt Railways.
As all the cranes are from British manufacturers, they could be suitable for British routes as well as NSW routes.
They are:
15T Cowans Sheldon hand crane
30T Cowans Sheldon steam crane
30T Craven Brothers steam crane
35T Ransomes and Rapier steam crane
70T Craven Brothers steam crane
They can be found here: - scroll down and you'll soon find them.

Happy lifting !!!
