A trip on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway
Today Mark and I spent a pleasurable day on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway travelling from Embsay to Bolton Abbey and back. The train was pulled by ex NCB 0-6-0ST No 35 and we travelled in relative luxury in the L & Y Railway Directors Saloon. Obviously a great thing for me and I hope Mark as well. We were the only ones in this particular carriage as it was classified as 1st class and hence an extra fee was due - well worth it as far as I was concerned. Once we had finished browsing in the shop we decided to round the trip off by going home via Hellifield, which meant a view of the start of the Settle and Carlisle Railway. Considering the trains are approximately every two hours both ways, we were extremely lucky to see 2nd generation DMU's in both directions. They both comprised a Class 153 + Class 150.

As Alec said above, we had a great day out, it was a little dull and overcast when we set off, but it gradually brightened up as the day went on, we were lucky as the rain held off for the most part, here are a few more pics....................

Hi Alec, once when I was at the Skipton Model Railway Show, I drove up to Hellifield to have a look at the
old station and I could clearly see what a huge station it must of been in the past.
The original station must of been quite a sight with trains coming and going from the many platforms in
both directions and I had a walk down the main platform and could clearly see the bay platforms at each
end, sadly now with no tracks in them.

There is a good rendition of the station in the Skipton to Carlisle route.

The bay platforms are in use on these routes.
