Rufuskins will be officially off-line Wednesday 15/4/15
From about 6pm Tuesday 14/4/15 I'll be officially off-line whilst my computer is being upgraded, and probably until am Thursday. I may be able to use SWMBO's computer to check email, etc. but that is not a given so to speak.

Hope the upgrades go well and don't take too long.

Hope the upgrades go well! And see you on the other side!
My SWMBO has other ideas for me as we have just found a plot on an Allotment! It needs digging, mowing and Rotorvating this weekend before we can start doing anything else!! Nothing like the 'Good Life'
Cheers

Hi Alec,
Apologies for joining your party rather late !!
Hope it all goes OK, mate I understand you've got a relative/friend doing it for you - I know whenever I build a new PC, there's that moment of trepidation when you move your finger to the ON switch for the first time!
Cheers,
Ged

Well I have the computer back, and now it's a question of slowly - but steadily - populating it with the relevant software. No MSTS or TSM at the moment.

Welcome back Alec, hope the software installation goes without a hitch, and normal service is resumed shortly.

I've installed TSM in accordance with Ged's post on UKTS back in 2013, although I haven't added V1.1 as I'm wondering whether I can merely paste the old TSM folder - currently sat on my back-up disk - over the new installation. I assume any drawback would be related to any changes to the registry made by installing V1.1? I can't really complete the install until I've installed MSTS!

Hi Alec,
I don't think there'll be any problem pasting the old TSM folder over the new, except that any setting you'd made in the old one will need to be re-entered for the new one - like folder settings, etc.
Cheers,
Ged

TSM now installed and MSTS in accordance with Steam4me tutorial partially installed. Progress slow as there are a number of Windows updates to be installed.

Well would you "Adam and Eve" it, I've got MSTS up and running! Of course I followed the Steam4me tutorial and that went well, but I'd forgotten about the problems with scaling; i.e. maintaining aspect ratio. I can't believe that I'd repeated the same mistakes(?) that I highlighted back in November 2013 HERE! For some reason, best known only to myself, I'd used the VGA cable to connect to the monitor and hence couldn't find the "maintain aspect ratio" ticking box! Thankfully I checked and doubled checked and swapped to the DVI cable and hence was able to find and tick this box. Now MSTS displays in all it's 4:3 format!
I shall now make a back-up copy of this clean install and move on to installing TrainStore and RouteRiter - not forgetting the need to install Java first for the latter!

Java and Route Riter now installed, although there was a suggestion that Java and Chrome were not wholly compatible??????????
Anyway RR now works having finally included Ged's pointer to "classes" HERE.
Next stop is Train Store.

Hi Alec.
It is true, Chrome no longer supports Java, (for whatever reason????) there is a workaround for now, but that will be removed in the summer, if you want to view a webpage that requires Java, use a different browser, I have waterfox on mine which is excellent (better than Chrome) and fully supports Java.
I don't think this Chrome incompatibility will affect installed programs such as RouteRiter etc. that use Java.

From a Pogo games email wrote:
Google Chrome Drops Java Support
We wanted to keep you updated on a big change to Google's Chrome Browser. Unfortunately, as of yesterday, Chrome version 42.xx and above no longer directly support Java.
We apologize for any inconvenience or disruptions to your gaming. A list of the games affected is available here, on the Pogo Forums. We highly recommend using another browser such as Internet Explorer 11 or the latest Firefox to continue playing the impacted games.
A workaround to continue using Java in Chrome can be found here. Note: This workaround will be removed from Chrome in September 2015 or earlier.
