Woodhead Route
A little help required please,I wish to put the Woodhead route onto my Win 7 PC (I had it on my XP)but am flummoxed by the amount of downloads there appear to be.Do I have to download Versions 2, 2.2, 4.1,4.2 & 4.2 Patch, followed by 4.3 Patch, and let each one run and be added to Trainstore before I load the next,or not.please reply in very Simple terms,as I'm easily confused. Kindest Regards
Roger
Re: Woodhead Route
This is from the UKTS description to Woodhead V4.1
"MSTS Woodhead Route v4.1 update - version without aerial photos *missing lorrylettering.ace now added*.
This includes:
- Host of minor improvements to the electrified Woodhead network, including signalling (particularly semaphores and the Dunford Bridge westbound oversight), amended platform markers (correcting the lack of wait countdowns), removal of a few decals where they looked a mess e.g. Dewsnap/Wath, correcting the levels around Gorton, some missing station signs, minor terrain glitches, and smoothing out some of the track imperfections; but more importantly
- Route extended from Woodhouse Junction to near Shireoaks on the line to Worksop, to connect with MidEast; and
- Route extended from Woodhouse Junction along the GCR main line to Staveley Central.
This needs Woodhead v4.03 installed before you start. You will need to have all default routes, UKFinescale and NewRoads installed, and I can’t vouch for the route running without MSTSBin. It works for me with TSection either 38 or 42UK.
Due to a host of minor changes made in v4.1 to the existing route, although the paths should work I can’t guarantee all the v4.03 activities will work in the same way. Best to download the updated activity packs I am uploading separately which are for route v4.1.
This is in three .exe parts, just download each part to a temporary folder and double-click on each .exe file in order from 1 to 3, following the instructions. There is no batch file to be run for this version but I have only tried to install like this.
There are two versions of this route - one with aerial photos as terrain textures, and one without. If you wish to change from either to the other, I have not tried this and would instead recommend just keeping your Activities, Paths, Services and Traffic folders and deleting the rest, and installing a download of the larger version with those folders copied and pasted over the top. This has the same folder name as the without aerial photos version so will overwrite it. It however does not have the same name as the old v2.2.
The track quality is not too good due to my ‘competence’ and the very complicated layouts at some locations. It may therefore be advisable to turn derailments off."
I haven't installed this route myself yet so can't vouch for ease. All I can suggest is that you look at V4.03 and see what that requires. Hope this hepls a little.

Hi All,
I'm probably going doo-lally, but I'm sure I replied to Roger's query, giving a full rundown for installing Woodhead, and I'm equally certain that he replied. Now I can't find the posts - please help before the men in white coats come to take me away (ha-ha)
Cheers,
Ged

Hello Ged,You did indeed reply via a PM,when I asked how come the Map on track Viewer showed the Route as going all the way to Loughborough, when I in fact could not do so due to a giant white out.
So no need to worry,the Men in white coats aren't coming to take you away (ha ha)YET ! Regards;

Hi Roger,
PHEW!! Thanks, mate
I've been pruning my folders and must have deleted them by mistake!
There's a member on UKTS who's asking about installing Woodhead, which is why I was looking for my post. Can I ask that you either send my post back to me via PM, or answer the post on UKTS directly with my solution, please?
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Woodhead Route
Hi All,
Roger and I have agreed that it'd be a good idea to post instructions here regarding the installation of the Woodhead v4.1 route!
The following is an edited version of my original PM to Roger :
NON-AERIAL VERSION
===================
v4.02 - Install the 5 files in part number order, 1 to 5 (UKTS file IDs : 29854, 29829, 29831, 29832, 29855 - ReadMe is in 29848)
v4.03 Patch (for both versions) - UKTS File ID 29931
v4.1 Update, without aerial photos version - Install 3 files in part number order 1 to 3 (UKTS file IDs : 31415, 31416, 31417)
=======================================================================================================
AERIAL PHOTO VERSION
=====================
v4.01 - The ReadMe (File ID 29784) details how to unpack and rename the files. It's only necessary to run the executable, whv4_rsetup.exe
The 10 File IDs which make up the set are : 29774, 29775, 29776, 29777, 29778, 29779, 29780, 29781, 29782 and 29783.
v4.02 Patch for aerial photos version. File ID 29869
v4.03 Patch (for both versions) - File ID 29931
v4.1 Update for aerial photos version - Install 8 files in part number order, 1 to 8. (File IDs 31369, 31350, 31370, 31371, 31358, 31359, 31360 and 31372)
=================================================================================================================================
Route-Riter reports several errors with both versions regarding missing snow textures and ESD 256 situations which will probably cause problems in snow conditions, if not corrected. Route-Riter can do this.
I strongly recommend that you run all executables (.exe files) as administrator.
There are three activity packs for use with this great route - 1950s (File ID 31424), 1960s (31425) and Blue Era (31427) but they need a large number of downloads!!
Cheers,
Ged

In the download section of TSSH there are now EXE files for v4.2 and v4.3! Do we merely run these overwriting where relevant?

Hi Alec,
The UKTS download screen for v4.2 states :
Please note that it states "up to V4.1" which means (to me) that v4 must be installed first, either the "with Aerial textures" or "without Aerial textures" version.
All the files are available from the TSSH library.
Cheers,
Ged
The UKTS download screen for v4.2 states :
You will need up to V4.1 installed before you start. The process for the aerial photos version is therefore install 4.01 (original), then 4.02 patch, then 4.03 patch, then V4.1 upgrade, then V4.2 upgrade.

Re: Woodhead Route
Ged, as you so aptly put it there are a large number of files needed to be "downloaded". Unfortunately the major source foe these is now defunct! I'm spending an inordinate amount of time "rooting" about in my back-ups and in general finding them or alternative suitable items.
The two main problems are the required folders for Classes 76 and 77 (starting DD_Class_76_... and DD_Class_77_...). I either never downloaded them or they've eluded me so far?
I presume the copyright for these prevents them being passed on; however if someone could tell me the UKTS reference number, that might assist me in finding whether they are hiding somewhere.
I'm also struggling with BR_exMR coaches, but I'll try and sort those later!
With hope from the tortoise!

Hi Alec,
All the UKTS files are available from the trainsim.com library - just use their UKTS file ID.
If you don't know their numbers, I can probably help, but at the moment, I'm watching the final F1 Grand Prix of the season!!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Woodhead Route
Hi Alec,
The DD_Class_76 loco is in file ID 30330.
I do not have any Class 77 files and none are listed in the UKTS Files List for MSTS !!! The only Class 77 is for "the other sim"!!
Regarding the BR exMR coaches, I need some more information, please! I do have all the UKTS MSTS/OR downloads so I'm sure I have them.
Which activities or activity pack are you running?
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Woodhead Route
Hi Ged
Thanks for the response but it appears that I would need to register again with trainsim.com and I would have to pay!? Now it's possible I have misunderstood, which is quite likely these days, but I'll pass!
I have some old Class 76/77 folders from the time when the original Woodhead route was available, so I'll get those out and substitute in the new Woodhead.
Here's one of the lines from a Route Riter Consist report with respect to the exMR stock:-
"Folder BR_exMR_D534_exComposite was missing from your Trainset (Referred by J:\0MSTS\Trains\Consists\EM1 AllGrn 046 exLMS Sub X3.con)"
Regards, Alec

Re: Woodhead Route
Hi Alec,
I don't think you HAVE to pay but, like UKTS, you wouldn't get the full speed downloads.
You can just pay $5 for a 30 day's 'Fast Pass' or $5 for a recurring monthly subscription. On the other hand, a full year costs $29.95.
Whichever you choose, it's a relatively small price to pay for the use of the library.
That particular coach is available in UKTS_15418
I doubt if you've got any Class 77 files from UKTS - maybe you mean Class 27?
Using the Wayback Machine, I have downloaded the original screens from UKTS detailing the stock required for the three Woodhead v4.3 Activity Packs.
I cannot attach them here, but if you send me an email, I can let you have them by return.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Woodhead Route
Hi Ged
There are Class 77s here in - UKTS_698_27000nolocoace.zip - they were originally numbered 27000. I've added them to my Trainset and will use them in the relevant Consists.
I'll see if I have a copy of 15418. I do of course have the Midland Railway liveried versions.
I'll see how the 77s look and if they're OK will give Trainsim a miss.

Re: Woodhead Route
Hi Alec,
My apologies
UKTS_30272_BR_EM2_E27000 unpacks as DD_CLASS_77_E27000,with the loco's number as E27000 - in BR green with the newer logo..
UKTS_30265_BR_EM2_27000 unpacks as DD_CLASS_77_27000 with the loco number as 27000 in BR black with the older 'lion and wheel' logo
UKTS_698 also unpacks the loco as 27000 :
... so, if yours is numbered 77000 then somebody must have changed it - I can't find any original patch.

Re: Woodhead Route
Hi Ged
I don't have UKTS-30272 and 30265, so I'll have to make do with what I have for the Class 77s, and there were a number of early UKTS uploads (9 in total) for the Class 76s.
I also don't have UKTS-15418 so I'll find some alternative carriages for the relevant Consists.
If nothing else this process of populating the Trainset folder for Woodhead is stimulating the deteriorating little grey cells!
Thanks for your help, Alec
PS:- I hope that you are fully recovered from your "unplanned trip"!

Hi Alec,
Thanks for asking, mate Yes, I'm back to 'normal' now !
Files 30265 and 30272 are available from the trainsim.com library but, for some reason, 15418 isn't, even though it was on the last file list I got from UKTS.
If there are any files you can't find and can't replace, just let me know.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Woodhead Route
I've hit another hold-up for this route. In one of the activities - Man LR-Stalybridge steam pass 1959.act - it calls for a stock folder MSJAR! I assume that this is related to the 1500vDC stock used on the Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Railway (MSJ&AR)!
Could someone please point me to the UKTS file that includes the relevant stock?

UKTS_31378!
The locos are only 'skeleton' vehicles, meant for use in AI trains and are not drivable.
Darwin Smith created them!

Re: Woodhead Route
Well I can't believe that I finished all the checks, and have a TRAINS folder that addresses all the requirements for the Woodhead activities! For some reason the EM1s and EM2s installed with a cabview file called acela.cvf, which seemed to mess with the driving. I then read the readmes with the relevant stock, and changed the cabview file to EM1-EM2.cvf and they now appear to drive correctly.

Re: Woodhead Route
Following my comment yesterday I realised that although the EM1s and EM2s were running fine I don't seem to be able to raise/lower BOTH pantographs. I press P and only one moves. Could some kind person put me out of my misery and tell me how I raise the second?
Apart from that I'm in good fettle as I was able to use ActMan - thanks again to Ged (slipperman12 ) - to remove unwanted consists and stock for the route.

Re: Woodhead Route
Hi,
Sorry, Stephen, but I don't think that's right for MSTS - this is an MSTS Forum! I don't think the second pantograph can be raised in MSTS (but I could be wrong!)
You can, however, have both pantographs raised on startup by replacing :
PantographToggle1 ( 0 1 0 )
PantographToggle2 ( 0 1 0 )
with
PantographToggle1 ( 0 1 1 )
PantographToggle2 ( 0 1 1 )
in the .eng file, but only the first can be lowered!
In Open Rails, Shift + P will raise/lower the second pantograph.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Woodhead Route
Hi Ged,
Sorry, I only ever use Open Rails these days so I automatically assumed Alec was also - I should know better than to assume that everybody else does.
regards,
Stephen

Re: Woodhead Route
Far be it from me to cause any problem, but I found that using P and P + Shift raised the pantographs.
With a loco attached to the front of a consist, P raises the pantograph to the rear and P + Shift raises the front pantograph! Of course I'm using MSTS via TrainStore.

Re: Woodhead Route
Hi Alec,
I only tested with the Class 76 included in my Woodhead route. It could be that other locos are setup differently - could you tell me which you are using, please?
Cheers,
Ged
EDIT : I was wrong The Bin Patch allows the second pantograph to be raised and lowered. I think the Class 76 I checked didn't have all the required entries. Have now successfully tested it with E27000. Sorry Alec.
EDIT2 : I solved the problem! The class 76 was in my Woodhead installation and a Class 77 was in the default installation. Both pantographs on the Class 77 were operable but only one on the Class 76.
The reason was that, although the Woodhead installation had a correct c_electric.txt file in its GLOBAL folder, it hadn't been converted into the c_electric.iom file required by MSTS.
