From what I read, it works very well under Windows 7. It definately workes for a mini route. Saveral different installations of MSTS can be chosen, saved and selected.

Can answer your first question. Those pics were taken on my Windows 7 machine. No freezes for me.
As for mini-routes, no idea as don't use them. (Edit, David has answered for you).

And there was me thinking I was probably the only one! Although I have used them, I've never found the need to try to make one.

Re: Glas - Car V4 in OR
I use Mini Routes to make a dedicated trainset folder for a route.
just create a Mini Route, rename the trainset folder MyRoute_Trainset and copy it to your TRAINS folder.
Then rename it when you need it.
Basicly a manual version of Trainstore.
Saves having multiple copied of MSTS

In danger of taking my own thread off-topic, but never had need for Trainstore either!
The good thing I've found about OR is no need for it anyway. I've got tons on stuff of my W7 machine and OR loads them all ok.

Re: Glas - Car V4 in OR
One more thing I've noticed that if I run MSTS on my W7, because it's a crappy graphics card, I get squiggly lines on some terrtex textures.
But as you can see from the OR pics (taken on same computer), it's not a problem, so no need to splash out on a new card.

Hi Niall,
Just seen the update on UKTS and its looking fab! Lets hope that OR can overcome the Obsticle's that I have found with routes and Acts....Its a slow progress which I hope can push on and keep this fab sim going for years to come!
It might not be on par yet with the graphics of the other said Sim, but it is easier and Cheaper!! And with us all learning new things all the time; I'm sure it will carry on growing if we all want it to?.....
Cheers
Andy

Every time I add a new section to my route, I always test in OR. This is a quick screen grab of Johnstone.

It's looking good, and I might even have to consider installing OR - .

Hi Alec,
You unpack the zip file** to wherever you want, create a shortcut to put on the Desktop and run it from there. It will pick up your MSTS installation from the Registry, but you can add any number of additional installations, like mini routes, on the OR menu.
** I recommend you download and use the latest Experimental version as it has vastly improved since the last "stable" release (0.9)!!
Cheers,
Ged
It may just be your turn of phrase, but Open Rails doesn't have to be "installed"I might even have to consider installing OR

Re: Glas - Car V4 in OR
Thanks Alec, Andy.
One reason you should have OR, Alec, is because you are now dabbling in model making.
As you are learning, MSTS will only allow you to do so much due to its limitations. Open Rails will have more features, be able to cope with way more polys, detailing etc.
I know of one model maker who built a pretty decent model for MSTS but the OR version of it, which I am not allowed to divulge what it is, is stunning!
Therefore, anything you build you for MSTS, don't get rid of the source files because if OR comes good then you will be able to revisit those files and make improvements you could only dream of in MSTS.

Hi Niall,
Interesting???.... So how do you go about building something really decent with OR in TSM?
Cheers

Re: Glas - Car V4 in OR
Not a clue Andy, I don't build models, unless it's rubbish stuff in Sketchup!
I just look at the excellent pics I'm sent.
Captain Bazza may be worth a try as he was building models for OR a while back that were too complex for MSTS.

Re: Glas - Car V4 in OR
hello chaps, one of them stupid questions again, but,Can you drive a steam train with your head out of the window on OR?.I've tried to down load it for a trial but am having trouble finding out what works what.As usual I seem to have lost the instructions somewhere in the deepest dark part of my PC.Regards Roger

Re: Glas - Car V4 in OR
Hi Roger,
The answers Yes!
Use the Home key to look forwards and the End key to look behind. With the arrow keys you can then turn left, right, up and down.
Regards,
Stephen

Hi Niall, that's a cracking set of pictures,OR certainly has great graphics.

Re: Glas - Car V4 in OR
OR does have a knack of getting the best out of textures created for MSTS.
Best thing is, Roger, that's not even the highest settings.
