Hi guys,

Sorry for not being around much for a while, life has caught up with me.
Whilst cleaning up my room a while ago I came across something that my surprise you:

This is an original Australian launch flyer for MSTS dating back to late 2001 / early 2002.
I can remember the thrill when I first got this as I had seen the all the things that were being made for MSTS as it had launched in the UK already.

So how about it, let us all hunt through our collections and have a little Nostalgia November?

A couple of downloads from the earliest days of MSTS user created content.

At last we had a BR liveried DMU to run on the S&C line, even if it was a repainted Kiha it could easily have passed as a generic sprinter EG: a 155 or 156 as these had yet to be created at the time.

I have owned MSTS for nearly 11 years, and this month marks 10 years that I joined UKTS.

One of my first downloads was the SPT Orange and Black Class 314, which was actually a default Series 2000 reskin. As far as I know it was used for the Glasgow North Electric route back in 2002. That was before the current Class 314s came along.

As I recall, the Class 313s were repainted from the default Series 2000 reskin and were once available from UKTS. The Class 313 runs on DC mode (pantograph being locked down), however you had the option to change to AC mode (working pantograph). They became history when the current Class 313 models came out in 2004 - albeit with texturing mapping issues!

This LU992 Tube Stock was also one of my first downloads. I remember running this on the LU Piccadilly Line and Modern City Underground. It was underscale, no interiors, no passenger view, very basic, but it was the only model at the time. Thankfully, a new, much better model came in 2009 to UKTS - and was built by myself!

One of my first routes to be downloaded was the Harwich to Manningtree and Modern England routes. I remember running the Oxford to London section of the Modern England route.

When I first joined UKTS in November 2003, I was a non-premium member, and I remember UKTS had an old download system. You had to wait until 8pm when we would get a quota (it is like getting money for UKTS). The first download was unlimited. Then the quota was enforced after that. Once it runs it, it is exhausted (you could not download anymore until 8pm the following day). That was replaced with the current system in January 2004 (the system that you could download the content 24/7, but need to be in the queue in the download depot - at busy times you can wait for hours!).

NWTR Class 153 from Carlisle to Appleby on the Northern Rail Routes 5.1 route. I took this screenshot in March 2006.

Back in 2005/6, I used to download trains in fictitious "North West Trains" livery. I used them on Northern Rail Routes 5.1, North West England v2 and Woodhead 2.2. I also used the Class 47 with a rake of Mk2 Coaches to Workington on the NRR 5.1 route.

I had also downloaded and used the other train simulator called the Boso View Express (BVE) back in 2004. I had downloaded several London Underground routes, I remember using the Bakerloo, Circle and Waterloo & City routes, as well as the fictitious Beck line, and even a random LU route! I also downloaded the routes from Scottish Train Sim Files and I had the Glasgow Underground and the fictitious Sandymill Electric route.

Towards the end of that year I downloaded the fictitious NVTA (Nearburg Valley Transportation Authority) underground routes (Yellow Line and Blue Line). During 2005, most routes are under development than those are available, no signs of new releases for a while, so at the end of the day, I just gave up and played MSTS ever since. Eventually, I would move on to repainting and creating trains for MSTS.

Those were the days and I still use MSTS today! Laughing

I can well remember the early days,when the British diesels all used either the Default Dash 9 or the GP 38 for cabviews,the steam loco's the default Scotsman cabview,and electric loco's the Accela cabview DMU's the Kiha cabview.

Now to day nearly all new loco's have the proper cabviews,or if not you can down load a suitable cabview from the UKTS library the exception to the rule seems to be steam loco's where a lot still seem to use the Scotsman cabview,luckily because of the number of steam loco cabviews in the library I can usually find a more suitable one.

The other thing is just look how far new routes have come on,know more default stations\signals\track\road vehicles, although the later are well served with period road vehicles there is now a lack of modern cars and trucks,busses are a bit better off,there are no modern Nissan's \,Renaults\Vauxhalls\Skodas\Citreons and Honda,or my car a SEAT Altea, Sorry if I have missed any others.

Maybe that could be the next thing we could have a month for.

Hi

One of the very first DMU models to come out was the Class 101, and the unit used GP38 cabview. There was the other one in Regional Railways as a special edition set amd used custom cabviews - it has no control or dials! Both came out in December 2001.

The Class 421 models came out in early 2002 and came with Class 421 cabview and sounds. The Class 317-322 & 456 EMUs as well as Sprinters came out also that same year and used Series 2000 cabview. Class 158 appeared at the same time and had it's own Class 158 Cabview.

The Class 92 locomotives still uses Acela cabview today, and nobody has ever produced the Class 92 cabview.

The Class 92 locomotives still uses Acela cabview today, and nobody has ever produced the Class 92 cabview
According to their advertisement, EuropeanBahn's "Mainline Stock & Activities Collection" add-on contains a Class 92 cabview. I'm not currently able to check it out, so maybe it's just a modified Acela! If anyone's interested, Amazon.co.uk still have half a dozen copies of this CD.

You are correct, I have the EB class 92 (RFD Grey) on the CD you mention, and it does indeed contain a class 92 cabview (it's in the loco folder, not the common.cab folder) it is in the folder "Trains/Trainset/EBPH92016"  OK

Thanks for that!
It's a pity there's not a freeware one, but I wonder if it'd be possible for someone with the appropriate skills, to create one, after seeing the EB version? Is it vastly different to any other 'modern' electric loco cab? I see they're also used in France (as type CC 92000). I'll look on some French MSTS sites!

The closest freeware cab I have seen to the class 92 cab is the class 60 cab, the class 60s and 92s shared the same body shell and have similar cabviews.

It shouldn't be too difficult to convert a class 60 cab to a passable class 92 cab (with the uploaders permission, or for your own exclusive use only) I'm not an expert at cab creation so someone else may be able to shed more light on the subject. Very Happy

I have just found this class 90 cabview which is better than the acela cabview and could be used as a substitute.

Hello everyone.
I have had MSTS since 2002, What attracted me was the Marias pass route, as I had spent a couple of  days in 1998
at Glacier en route to the coal lines around Bill in Wyoming.
I subsequently was able to go back and this time we covered the whole route from Shelby to Whitefish, being able to
actually find locations based on the default  M P route!
In 2002 The default MSTS was the best thing since sliced bread, My first comercial add ons were Severn valley, Cambrian
one, followed my making tracks London and Southeast, Mideast UK 1.0 and Northwest England  V2.
I also have quite a few of the Maple Leaf tracks routes  Kicking horse and Rogers pass which I am very familiar with the areas
and also the Dundas route from Windsor to London Ontario which again the train sim route has allowed me to find actual locations.
So I have seen an awful lot of improvements.
I still use the BA, BATS Making Tracks and others sound and cab files for a lot of my stuff.
Yes this thread should go along way to remind us just how much MSTS has improved.

P:S: Have just found Vern Moorhouses Route Compliation cd, that now reminds me that I initally joined his website and that in fact
was 2001 so I have been with MSTS all of the way.
My username on MSTS is aj52mdy so that suggests I joined MSTS in 2002/03 after Vern had to close his site due to work commitments I seem to recall.
Edit: Apparently joined UKTS June 2004!

I bought MSTS the day that it first hit the shelves in my local game shop, (Probably the day of release)  I was a bit disappointed with the Marias pass route, especially the long flat section which seems to go on forever, (MSTS doesn't do wide open spaces that well,)  but the mountainous areas of the route made up for that.

Looking at that photo, the EB cabview looks fairly spot on, there are some minor differences but overall it looks pretty good.

Regarding Class 92 Cabview, yes I did say nobody ever created the Class 92 cabview, I now realised that there is a Class 92 Cabview in one of the commercial EB product.

Anyway, talking about Class 92 Cabview is off-topic and this thread is ment to be about MSTS flashback.
