Help with MSTS Editor & Tools
Hi everyone,
I hope someone can answer this question as I am trying to assign memory to the shortcut for MSTS Editor & Tools. (Getting sick of it crashing on me!)
The long and short of it is I have looked at the info on this link; http://msts.steam4me.net/tutorials/xtra_mem.html
And tried this; To Use the MSTS Editors & Tools train.exe -toolset -mem:nnn
So in the target ine on the shortcut it says this; C:\MSTS\launcher.exe -runeditor -vm:w -mem:512" - I get the Train Simulator Startup screen such as when you first install MSTS.....
I tried it with the train.exe -toolset -mem:nnn line and it just starts MSTS up and not the Editor & Tools?
Have I missed something out?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Help with MSTS Editor & Tools
Not to worry, have just worked it out. For anyone else it's as follows; C:\MSTS\train.exe -toolset -mem:512
Still crashes now and again though. Does anyone know how to make it more stable and consistent?
Many Thanks.
Andy

Re: Help with MSTS Editor & Tools
Hi Andy,
Ahh!! You found out that you can't apply "switches" to launcher.exe!!
You've only applied -mem:512 - I'm assuming you have at least 2GB, so try 1024. I believe the maximum MSTS can use is 1776 (gleaned some time ago from trainsim.com!)
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Help with MSTS Editor & Tools
Hi Ged,
Is that a break-through then?
I have 4GB Ram on my machine and if I set it to 1024 it doesn't load at all. If I do 768 it loads up the game itself??!?!?!? Very weird!!!
Cheers

Re: Help with MSTS Editor & Tools
Hi Andy,
That's a bit odd!!
Mine is set as : "T:\MSTS\Train Simulator\train.exe" -toolset -mem:2048 and works without problem. One very important thing is the position of the quotes characters - in your first post, one was shown after 512.
For completeness, my sim line is : "T:\MSTS\Train Simulator\train.exe" -mem:2048 /nofiltercab:1 The nofiltercab entry is to prevent the horizontal/vertical lines sometimes appearing in diesel / electric cab views.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,
Very Odd and I have noticed when I try applying with the Quotes " on the line, it reverts back without any quotes showing????
Thanks

Re: Help with MSTS Editor & Tools
Hi Andy,
As you don't have any spaces, I don't think you'll need any quotes - sorry, I didn't appreciate your full address line earlier!
I've just done a test which has proved that if you enter quotes, but they are not required, they are, as you say, removed.
As to why you can't make the mem switch 1024, I don't understand. Does it just crash to the Desktop? Make sure the shortcut has 'Run as administrator' ticked.
Also, the only way I can get the main Sim to display when I added toolset was if I missed the hyphen before toolset.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Help with MSTS Editor & Tools
Shows I still have a fair bit to learn about MSTS.
I know the memory switch works for the game, but I was always under the impression it didn't work for the editor.

Re: Help with MSTS Editor & Tools
Hi Niall,
I haven't done enough in Route Editor to know personally whether it uses the mem switch or not, but all I've read on the subject (including Steam4Me) seems to suggest that it does. Hope that makes sense!?!
Cheers,
Ged
