Re: Just a Screenshot!
Well believe it or not I attempted to drive a steam locomotive this morning between chores - the shock "smilies" are for the steam driving by the way not the chores - on the New Forest route.
Thank you to Justin for his guide to driving a steam locomotive - mind you it took me some time to work out which key to hit to control my cylinder cocks. Yes I now know its [C].

Hi Alec,
Well done!!
Driving a steam loco in MSTS is a whole different ball-game to a diesel or electric, but I find it to be much more satisfying, particularly when you've successfully climbed a severe gradient! You feel as if you've really achieved something, although you're only pressing buttons! If you've not done so already, I suggest you try the Somerset & Dorset route
Cheers,
Ged

Whoa . . I'm still learning to crawl/walk so to speak. I certainly enjoyed the brief experience.

Re: Just a Screenshot!
During checking for Class 117 repaints took this shot on Lydbrook Junction - never mind whether they did!
It shows off Clive's excellent DMU Cab, which I have adopted as standard for all of my FG DMU repaints.
The Class 117 lights need some tweaking but other than that they may be OK. Need to also check permissions status?

Re: Just a Screenshot!
Hi Alec,
Looking at your Class117 shot above reminded me. Testing MEP I noticed that the environments sometimes looked too dark. Stick your head out and they were OK!? I looked at the Alpha (on the relevant cabs) and darkened the "wiped areas" a tads. Better.... but things still didn't look right. I sat and looked at the grabs for a while and thought, well if you were in these cabs and the light source was daylight from outside they'd actually look a lot darker than they are.
I tried darkening all the brightest cabviews and eventually found what I reckon is a more realistic view. It's a bit of a chore because of course a lot of cabviews have loads of levers, switches and buttons and these have to be darkened by the same %. Another aspect of this tweak was that I tried "over" darkening the aces but the lightened them a little by reducing the contrast.
Give it a go and see what you think? Until UKTS get their finger out with the MEP discs you'll have to take my word for it otherwise

A 4-car Class 414 2HAP and an 8car Class 421 4CIG waits at Pageants Field one morning in the early 1980s. The Class 414 will form the local service via the east line, while the Class 421 prepares to form the 07:30 service to London Victoria.
Another photo, this time on "the drain". A Class 487 unit heading to Waterloo Depot after forming the short Bank to Waterloo shuttle.

Steyning
Hello Alec,
When you are on the Steyning Line you might have trouble with the O2 knocking things off the rails. If so alter its SD file bounding box to
ESD_Bounding_Box ( -1.33 0.1 -4.4 1.27 3.6 4.4 )
The original
ESD_Bounding_Box ( -1.3 -1.954104E-07 -24.42 41.30003 3.78349 24.42 ) causes trouble - look at the 41.30003.
Try my engine controllers, inspired by Dave Robinson - they are available on UKTS and they make driving a lot more sure-footed.
Remember to wave to the railway children. I forget where they are, but they are on the Steyning route somewhere, and they will think it a poor show if you do not give them a wave.
Lovely screenshots
Good luck,
Roderic

I'm not sure this counts as masterpieces, but:
Here is the fireman's view of the Belle arriving at Brighton.
Roderic
If this works, I shall be very surprised.
No, I'm not surprised: there should be pictures where I have put links. What have I done wrong?
Gosh it has worked. Thanks to Andy

Hi Roderic,
When you post a reply, you need to click on the icon above that has a picture of a disc (Hover over and says 'Host an Image') click on this and then browse to the location of the file. Select the screenshot size and then click on 'host it'
you will get another prompt and then you copy and paste the URL into the post. (Make sure you choose the 'Image' URL)
Hope this helps?

Just thought I'd pop in some cab Views (approaching Hunstanton)
No prizes for guessing York
Never thought I'd get this one,the elusive Broad Street
And a rather heavy Freight jaunt on the Fens.

Re: Just a Screenshot!
Thanks guys, but it's just a screenshot!
On the new stretch from Milliken Park to Paisley Gilmour Street, I sourced and created snow textures for a few bridges and buildings and it was amazing the difference they made to the look of the route. Of course, these buildings/bridges are used elsewhere as well so it helps improve a lot of areas on the route in winter.
I can't do them all (some objects either too complex or no permissions to modify) but I feel the route will look better in Winter this time around.

Re: Just a Screenshot!
V3 sections of the route have not been forgotten and even the likes of Bridgeton now has snowy platforms.
Testing has shown I needed to replace the signalling on the East Kilbride line and during subsequent testing you see a 156 at Giffnock, where the line currently ends.

Re: Just a Screenshot!
Ah Yes, the good old Waterloo and City line in BR Days, Referred by Waterloo traincrews as "The Drain"
When I was a guard at Eastleigh, we used to regulary pass from Waterloo to Bank and then walk through the City along Lombard Street to Fenchurch street and pass to Barking or Tilbury for the Ripple Lane to Southampton Freightliner, ah those were the days!
As a matter of interest, what MSTS route is this please?
Cheers
Andy

Northern Line V1.2. It includes the Waterloo & City Line (as well as unfinished Piccadilly Line, which the author of the route never got round to finish that section). It is freely available from UKTrainsim.
