Route Name = East Lancashire Railway

East Lancashire Railway Elr10

Route Author = Class 15 Preservation Society

Route Location = Bury, Lancashire

Route Mileage = 12 miles

Route Era = Modern Preserved

Route Source = this route is not currently available other than from Ebay or similar locations.

Additional files required to be installed = an additional add-on was created for a plethora of diesel traction that had operated on the ELR. Again this is not currently available except as noted above.

Route Description =
An MSTS route not easily available as noted above.

Additional activities and relevant stock were available from UKTS before its closure.

“This is a re-creation of the preserved ELR from Heywood to Rawtenstall.

A trip on the East Lancashire Railway is a journey back in time. It was opened in 1846 to link the Manchester to Bolton line with Radcliffe and was a popular passenger and freight route which served the Irwell Valley from Bury, via Ramsbottom, to Rawtenstall and beyond.
1972 saw the last passengers travel on the Bury to Rawtenstall section, and that would have been the end of an era had the East Lancashire Preservation Society not been committed to restoring the line to its former glory.
With assistance from Bury and Rossendale Councils, the line was reopened in 1991. The traditional station buildings and developments along the tracks have contributed to the Society being presented with a number of environmental awards.
