Route Author = Tim Mitchell
Route Location = Northern England Transpennine.
Route Mileage = TBC
Route Era = 1950s/60s
Route Source = Woodhead in the UKTS file library.
Additional files required to be installed = Newroads - UK Finescale - Tsection.dat 42UK or later.
Route Description =
A download route for MSTS - two versions are available, one textured with aerial photos (photoreal version), and the other using standard MSTS textures.
This is a rebuild of Steve Nicklin's (qzdcg8 on UKTS) v2.2 route from 2003, with the new inclusion of UKFS track, 50m DEM terrain enabling gradients (courtesy of Ordnance Survey downloaded from UKTS), and in the photoreal version, terrain textures (courtesy of Bluesky Interactive taken with permission from Google Earth).
This is a representation of the famous Woodhead Route running between Manchester, Sheffield and Wath. Set in the 1960s, the route is still intact and passenger services between Manchester Piccadilly (London Road) and Sheffield Victoria via Guide Bridge and Penistone are still running.
The main traffic on the route was however the transportation of coal from Yorkshire to the North West, most originating at Wath On Dearne to be piloted by the famous EM1s as far Mottram before a loco swap for onwards travel into Lancashire and Merseyside.
Electrified at 1500VDC, the line featured its own unique traction, comprising of the EM1 Bo-Bo and EM2 Co-Co Locomotives and the 3 Car Suburban EMUs (the 506s).
Stock and activities are available from the UKTrainSim file library.
