Re: UKtrainsim and Atomic Systems DOWN
Hello All,
I saw all the posts from that and it is calculated that the site went offline at around 4pm on the Saturday. The site re-appeared later that evening but extremely slow, then went down for the rest of the night.
The following morning, Bob has posted in the forum that UKTS / Atomic Systems was back online, and that was at 9:50am. But the first post in the UKTS forum since the outage was at 10:43am, it is suggested that there might have been log-in issues. There was a knock-on effect, there were no uploads approved on the Sunday.
I have no idea why there was a 17 hour outage and there was no quick response. Is that because it's a Saturday night, and the owner of the website had to have a Saturday night routine? Unfortunately, the wrong time has been picked for the UKTS outage, as well as the Open Rails website, causing a major disruption to the train-sim community as a whole. After all, UKTS / Atomic Systems and Open Rails websites aren't perfect, just as with anything else.
The main thing now is that UKTS / Atomic Systems is back up and running, as well as Open Rails website.

Maybe the length of time it was down this weekend is the fact it's a bank holiday and maybe Matt and Peter had other things planned for the weekend so didn't pick up on the site being down

I did see it was down earlier.
The message I saw indicated that the database had disappeared up it's own rear orifice. These things happen from time to time - we certainly see the same problems in work and a good restart usually fixes matters.

It is still down for me. Also the Open Rails and MSTSBin sites, which I believe are hosted by UKTS, are down.
Does anyone know what would cause me not being able to access these from the other side of the Atlantic?

Hi David,
What message/s do you get?
It's possible that the DNS server your ISP uses is not available; if you are able to, change to the Google one.
Cheers,
Ged
EDIT : Of course, I didn't mean the DNS server wasn't available (you wouldn't be able to post here if that was the case!). I meant it might be having a hiccough!!

I do not seems to have any problems connecting to any other sites including, for example, Amazon UK.

Re: UKtrainsim and Atomic Systems DOWN
Hi folks,
I have missed the UKTS outage today, but that's the second time that has happened. There was another outage 9 days earlier, and this was Saturday 15th August.
Furthermore, UKTS has got problems with File Uploads (which explains that there has been no new file uploads in the past few days), and also the "This Page is Suspect" problem by anti-virus programs.
It appears that UKTS is in a bit of downhill at the moment.
Cheers

Re: UKtrainsim and Atomic Systems DOWN
Hi,
Something odd is happening!
I flushed the local DNS cache, but still couldn't load the Open Rails download site. Changed the DNS server from Google's to Open DNS and the OR site came up without a problem - all others are still OK.
Reverted to Google DNS servers and Open Rails now comes up OK!!
I wonder if it's a recent update which is causing this problem for some of us? For information, I'm using the Google Chrome browser, Version 44.0.2403.157 m
Cheers,
Ged
EDIT : OOPS!! spoke too soon. Open Rails download site became unavailable again. Switched to openDNS and can access the site successfully. Have done a reboot and flushed the local DNS cache and it's still working!

I am using Firefox 40.0.2 but have the same problem with IE. I also have flushed the DNS cache. All sites a previously listed remain inaccessible.
I have not changed to the Google DNS server as I do not know how to!

Hi David,
Your problem may have a different cause, but if you want to try changing the DNS server being used, see here : http://www.howtogeek.com/164981/how-to-switch-to-opendns-or-google-dns-to-speed-up-web-browsing/
This page shows the Google and OpenDNS values, but as mentioned above, the Google settings didn't help me.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: UKtrainsim and Atomic Systems DOWN
Hi all,
In addition to the above problems occurred last night, there are also reports of subscription renewal issue. This meant that UKTrainSim had lost it's way last night.
What has happened is that Peter Peddlesden has had grandchildren at the weekend. Also, his e-mail account had failed on the Sunday and was only fixed this afternoon.
UKTrainSim and Atomic Systems aren't perfect and sometimes we all need to have patience.
The good news, however, is that new uploads have been released earlier today.
Cheers

Re: UKtrainsim and Atomic Systems DOWN
Hi All
Here is the current status of UKTrainSim / Atomic systems as of 27/08/2015 at 13:00:
UKTrainSim website: OK
UKTrainSim Fourms: OK
UKTrainSim CD Ordering: OK
Atomic Album: OK, however address has changed to "www.atomic-album.co.uk"
Registration / renewal subscription: OK
MSTSbin Website: OK
Open Rails website: Site down (replaced by "500 - Internal server error" page). NOOOOOOOOO!
What has happened to UKtrainSim recently is that there has been a bit of the mismanagement, which has caused a bit of disruption to the train-sim community. We had new file uploads which had to wait for five days in the past week, and at the same time we have on what was absent admin, which I had explained earlier this week.
Yet, there is more to life than train-sim and even Pete Peddlesden as his real-life commitments. So if anything wrong happens to UKTrainSim in the future, then there might be time when we just have to be patient for a while which it will probably happen.
Have a nice day, and try to enjoy train-sim while you can.
Cheers

Yes, it's taking a long time to display the first page, but I'm still getting "waiting..." for the Forum page to load.
I've checked with Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer and all give similar results, although I've not had any error messages (yet).

Hi All,
It seems that the UKTS site is having trouble again!
Earlier this morning, I could get the first page, but couldn't load the Forum page; now nothing will load.
Are others having the same problem, or is it just me?
Correction : the first page will load, but after an extended time!
Cheers,
Ged
