Apparent errors in eng files
I am trying to sort out some apparent errors in MSTS eng files, as thrown up by Route-Riter. They may be spurious as they are in OpenRails files which RR may not know how to check.
Here is a sample error message:
is referred to by d:\British routes\Trains\trainset\OR-84030-BR2MT-Tank\OR-84030T.eng but is missing.
d is referred to by d:\British routes\Trains\trainset\OR-84030-BR2MT-Tank\OR-84030T.eng but is missing.
The actual content of the file OR-84030T.eng is short:
include ( ../OR-84030T.eng )
Wagon (
ORTSFreightAnims
(
WagonEmptyWeight( 53.512t-uk )
EmptyMaxBrakeForce ( 140kN )
EmptyMaxHandbrakeForce ( 49kN )
Comment( Empty Loco 53.512t-uk )
EmptyORTSDavis_A ( 3797 )
EmptyORTSDavis_B ( 17.89 )
EmptyORTSDavis_C ( 5.075 )
EmptyCentreOfGravity_Y ( 2.0 )
FreightAnimContinuous
(
FreightWeightWhenFull(12.538t-uk)
FullMaxBrakeForce ( 140kN )
FullMaxHandbrakeForce ( 49kN )
Comment( Full Loco 66.05t-uk - includes boiler mass, fire mass, full water & coal )
FullORTSDavis_A ( 4593 )
FullORTSDavis_B ( 22.08 )
FullORTSDavis_C ( 5.075 )
FullCentreOfGravity_Y ( 2.5 )
)
)
)
However, it seems as if the file is calling up itself! There is no other file of the same name in my installation for it to “include”
Can anyone explain? Is there an error or is it just RR not coping?
Jonathan

Re: Apparent errors in eng files
Hi Jonathan,
Route_Riter is unlikely to understand anything Open Rails-related which is in the regular .eng and .wag files.
The 'include' file OR-84030T.eng SHOULD be in a sub-folder of OR-84030-BR2MT-Tank named OpenRails, then Route_Riter won't 'see' it.
Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year to you and your family
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Apparent errors in eng files
Thanks. What I was expecting, but there is no OpenRails subfolder within the main folder. I should still have the download stored away so I'll take a look at it and see if I have somehow lost the subfolder.
In fact on checking there are seven locos where there is no OpenRails subfolder.

Re: Apparent errors in eng files
Hi Jonathan,
You need to tell us which stock you're referring to! Downloaded file name would be useful
Some downloads are designated "Open Rails only". In these cases, it's likely that they don't have an OpenRails sub-folder because they are not meant to be run using MSTS - any utility which is designed to process/validate MSTS files, like Route_Riter, just won't understand those "Open Rails only" files because some expected parameters and/or their values are not present or are invalid FOR MSTS!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Apparent errors in eng files
Since you ask, the batch of files in question was
OR_70000_BR7MT
OR_73082_BR5MT
OR_75014_BR4MT
OR_76017_BR4MT
OR_84013_BR2MT-Tank
OR_84030_BR2MT-Tank
Obviously OR only stock, so as I suspected and you confirmed not understood by Route-Riter.
This only came up because I have been trying to rationalise sound and cabview files to use the best ones available - often instead of default gp38 and Scotsman files included by the authors of the stock, though not in the above stock as they are much more recent.
The other thing I am finding is quite a few folders with missing sd files, and not because I have failed to copy them from elsewhere or copy and rename. This seems to happen most often with DMU files - though not those created by Ralph of course.
But I have so much stock and usually the same prototype from more than one source that it doesn't really matter.
Anyway, thanks again for your help and a rather belated Happy Christmas.

Re: Apparent errors in eng files
Hi Jonathan,
Hope you had a good Christmas and I wish you A Happy New Year !!
Again, regarding the .sd files, I understand that Open Rails doesn't need them for stock although thay can be specified for other models.
It's another case of programs like Route-Riter reporting errors which are not faults in the World of Open Rails !
Cheers,
Ged

Thanks. Useful to know about the sd files. More to lean every day about OR.
I am sure though that I shall find another question for you to answer before too long!

Hi Janathan,
Yes, mate, I'm sure you will
... and I'll do my best to give you a legitimate answer - if I can't, I'll pass you on to a gentleman who can !!
