MS Paint to discontinue on Windows 10
Hi Folks
For those who builds trains for MSTS and Open Rails in Windows 10, you might want to read the BBC News about MS Paint: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-40705466
Looks like it's bad news for those manage to run TGATool2 on Windows 10. Might need to start using Paint.net or something. I have been not welcomed about MS Paint being discontinued.
Just letting you know to be prepared.
Cheers

Re: MS Paint to discontinue on Windows 10
Hi Alistair,
Thanks for the information.
However, I don't understand the "bad news for those manage to run TGATool2 on Windows 10" comment! Ever since I started using TGATool2, I've used a very ancient program called Micrografx Picture Publisher, which still runs under Win 10, although its compatibility needs setting to XP SP3. It's much more capable than Paint ever was, but, unfortunately, is very hard to find these days.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,
I've just done a quick Google search and it comes straight up plus various add-ons.

Stephen

Is it really such a big deal because as I understand it TGA Tools allows you to select any editing programme, which I have just done - PSP X7 - , and because I'm still with W7 reset TGA Tools to MS Paint!

Re: MS Paint to discontinue on Windows 10
Hi Stephen,
Admitted that Google comes up with many hits, but finding a site which has it for sale is a different matter !
I am now using v10, which was issued after Corel took it over, in 2001. Previously, I used v8, and I'm pretty certain that earlier versions won't run under Win 8/8.1 or 10.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,
Does it matter if only a free version is available?

Re: MS Paint to discontinue on Windows 10
Hi Stephen,
As far as I know, there has never been a free version of Micrografx Picture Publisher (except for a magazine cover disk in the 1990s/early 2000s)!
Unless, of course, you're referring to Paint.Net
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MS Paint to discontinue on Windows 10
Hi Stephen,
Thanks Yes, that is the program.
I found that link and followed it. First of all was rapidshare.com, then freedownloadcenter.com. I couldn't download it from the latter, but I could select "Download later" and enter my email address. I did NOT follow that!!
I'm not sure about freedownloadcenter.com, but I've a feeling that rapidshare.com specialises in pirated software, although I could be wrong, but it's not accessible from my browser (Chrome).
Cheers,
Ged

Re: MS Paint to discontinue on Windows 10
Hi Ged,
Thanks for the feedback, I haven't tried downloading it as because far as I know it's not a program that I'll ever need. Paint Shop Pro 7 normally does all that I need.

Stephen

Re: MS Paint to discontinue on Windows 10
I use PSP7.
I make my wagons using drawings.
The edges are coloured according to whether they catch the light or are in shadow.
Each colour is then saved.
The wagon is then repainted in the correct livery and the saved selections are used the add the highlights and shadows.
If you have PSP you can try it try it by downloading File ID: 12952 Name:RCH 1923 7plank End Door Mineral Paintkit
PSP is the only program I have found that allows you to save selections.
Some will save to the clipboard but there is no way to keep the selections.
If anyone knows of any program which allows saving selections I would be interested to know.
I also think layers are essential.
