LNWR Stock
As some of you may know, a couple of years ago, I released a few sets of basic LNWR carriages on UKTS - 4 packs of non-corridor and one pack of corridor coaches. Once I looked at the range of LNWR locos available, I realized that there were no suitable passenger tank locos to haul the coaches, so I started to build a pack of four new locos.
Unfortunately, not long after, I had a big PC crash, which resulted in my getting a new laptop PC - but, I did lose a bit of TSM WIP progress models. I thought that I had lost the original TSM models, but today I was digging around in my old archived files to find something else, and lo and behold, I found a WIP folder. Was I surprised to find the early parts of the four LNWR locos that I though were lost forever !
Here's a piccie of how far I got before the crash - looking at the locos, I guess you can guess which types they are -
3P 4-6-2T Superheater tank
2P 4-4-2T Precursor tank
2P 0-6-2T 'Watford tank'
1P 2-4-2T Webb 5'3" tank
Bearing in mind they weren't very far developed, it may take a few more months before I can finish them off - they will not be released as single locos, but as a pack of four - a suitable announcement will be made when they are finished - they will be ready when they are ready, and not a day before !
Regards, Brian

Re: LNWR Stock
Thanks Brian, look forward to seeing them., as you say there are not many locos from that period, most people seem to concentrate on locos from the big four or BR.

Re: LNWR Stock
That's excellent news Brian, and they will provide a goodly stud to pull LNWR carriages. Whilst I note your reference to release dates, what I was wondering was when you do decide which site would you opt for? This would certainly influence my own choice with regards to my non-corridor LNWR carriages.

Re: LNWR Stock
And ............... the final two in the pack of four LNWR passenger tank locos.
That's the locos themselves done, just got to do the physics files and the tweaking before they go out on a Beta Test.
It will be a little while before they are available, as I'm currently away from home caravaning for several weeks, in beautiful northern NSW - it's 32 degrees C out in the annexe - beautiful sunny weather - nice sea breezes makes it 'just right'.

They both look excellent models and will be well worth waiting for.

Re: LNWR Stock
Brian has passed some test trains for a review, etc. All are looking good and as best I can tell at this early stage run very well.
Here's a screen shot of Brian's Webb 0-6-2T 'Watford Tank' No 1597 with a Watford-Euston set of L&NWR 50ftx8ft Arc Roof Non-corridor Coaches, waiting for the green light at Watford Platform 4 on Thames-Mersey using Open Rails.

Re: LNWR Stock
This pack has now been UPLOADED to both TSSH and UKTS.
Should be available for download in a day or two.
I am now working on making LMS versions of these 4 locos.

Re: LNWR Stock
Hi Brian.
I have made 4 activities and been running the test versions on the Skipton V1 (MR to Carlisle) route.
I am not nor would ever claim to be an expert on driving steam in MSTS, (I use the automatic fireman.) they have been running great in the 4 acts I have created for them, they have handled the long hard gradients with ease, and are a pleasure to drive, as well as looking great.
Both the Skipton v1 and Renzo's Leeds-Settle-Carlisle routes are the right era for LNWR running, although an MR route, the inclusion of LNWR stock with Renzo's route suggests that the LNWR may have run some services over the S&C.

Very Good Brian. Thank you. Is there any chance of BR versions for the two which survived that long?ShortNorth wrote:This pack has now been UPLOADED to both TSSH and UKTS.

Unfortunately, the British railway world for me stopped in 1948 - once the LMS ceased to exist, I have little interest in the BR era and do not have enough information to be able to make BR versions. However, if there is anyone out there who wants to have a go at repainting the relevant locos into BR livery, then contact me and we may be able to come to some arrangement.

Re: LNWR Stock
I am currently making some chain coupled versions of Alec's consists and using Brian's passenger tanks to haul them, (this is taking longer than expected as my Cannock chase miniroute has spat it's dummy out and will only run in OR) here is the first one on a local passenger run from Stafford act.................................

Re: LNWR Stock
Hi mike, I am using the period tank engine cab for mine - UKTS File ID: 4384 - installed into the common.cab folder.
For some reason, the original .CVF file didn't display the cab, (possibly because I'm using them in a miniroute) I backed up the original "PERIOD_TANK_CAB.cvf" and copied the CVF file from the common.cab/PERIOD_TANK_CAB folder into the loco folders cab folder, and that seems to work fine.

Re: LNWR Stock
I might be biased, but those shots of my new LNWR wagons are looking good.
For those who know, some years back I released a set of 12 relatively basic' LNWR wagons, just to get something available apart from the single LNWR open wagon and single LNWR van that was available at the time.
Since my interest in LNWR has increased once I found out about Alec's LNWR coaches, I have now revisited that old 12 wagon pack and revised them to update them to a better standard. However, that spurred me on a bit and I have ADDED an extra 12 new wagons to the pack - Alec and Mark are testing them for me at the moment. I'm hoping for release early in the new year to go with the forthcoming updated 'Black Country - LNWR 1920' route. All that's missing now is a few new LNWR goods locos to balance out the 'top-heavy' list of passenger locos available - the only current goods loco is the 19" goods 4-6-0 - seems like I'm going to have to dig out the info for maybe 3 or 4 new LNWR goods locos.
For many years the Midland Railway 'Skipton to Carlisle 1920' and its included extensive rolling stock was the only LMS pre-group constituent that was modelled sufficiently to run as a fully stand-alone MR setup.
Now it is the turn of the LNWR to get this treatment - enough stock and a new route to run them on, and the LNWR will finally get its 'day in the sun'.
Regards, Brian

Your fingers must be getting quite sore, and your wrists will be liable to RSI, based on the amount of work you're turning out. The question now is "will there be enough room on the route to fit all this stock on"?
Thanks for all of this Brian.

Looking really great Brian.
One good thing about all this stock is you can make a really busy activity with loads of AI services and not see the same thing twice.

Re: LNWR Stock
And .... just because I could !!! Its great that the LNWR used so many standard parts in their locos - it makes conversions to other locos relatively easy.
The saturated small-boiler C1 0-8-0 morphed into a superheated belpaire G1 0-8-0 - just like Whale and Bowen-Cooke did with the real ones !
The tender is a fully overhauled Whale tender fresh out of the shops (actually, Its Darryn Dunckleys 19" Goods tender). The LNWR frequently swapped tenders around, so the G1 can run with the Webb tender I made for the Special DX, Coal Engine and C1, or with a Whale tender from the 19" Goods - just adds a bit more variety.
Regards, Brian
PS - since the works photo above, the safety valves have changed from Ramsbottom to Ross Pop type as befits a Belpaire boiler.

Re: LNWR Stock
Well, that's 9 locos done - so I decided to round it out to a total of 10 new engines.
The smaller end of the passenger tender types was very bare - so ............. A LNWR 4-4-0 Renown class "1946 Diadem"
Now that's definitely the last one - 10 is quite enough !
Must get back to Black Country - LNWR 1920.

Re: LNWR Stock
In the words of The Four Tops well known song - "Can't Help Myself".
The Renown started to look a bit lonely at the lower end of the passenger scale .... so
Precedent "Minotaur" and GeorgeV "Australia" (well I had an excuse as it was one of the rare British locos named after my home country !).
Now - that's it !!! I have to get back onto Black Country - LNWR 1920

Re: LNWR Stock
Today I have uploaded a couple of revised packs of LNWR coaches to both UKTS and to TSSH. These replace the 'basic' LNWR coaches I uploaded to UKTS some years ago.
- LNWR 50ft arc and cove roof Corridor coaches V3.0
- LNWR 50ft cove roof Lavatory Non-corridor coaches V5.0
These should be available within a day or two

Re: LNWR Stock
Brian, my existing "LNWR-Non-CorridorCoaches" folder has several coaches in it which are not included in your "LNWR Non-corridor coaches V5.0" download. They appear to have been from earlier parts 1, 2 and 3 of the "LNWR Non-Corridor Coaches Pack". What should be done with these in the install of your updated ones?

Re: LNWR Stock
Hello David,
The Readme with the LNWR V5 non-corridors states that the original V1 to V4 non-corridor packs have been superseded by Alec's new LNWR coaches, and were removed from the file library - those original 4 packs of coaches were really in the wrong livery. I had a faulty CRT monitor at the time, which was off-colour, and didn't see that the livery was more LMS crimson rather than LNWR plum lake until I replaced it with a new LCD screen. As Alec had produced a whole batch of very nice sets of LNWR coaches, I only retained the cove roof lavatory cars, and repainted them in LNWR Plum Lake, and released as V5, as Alec had 'covered' all the rest of the arc and elliptical roof coaches.
So, the easiest way is totally empty the existing folder before you install the newer V5 cars. This will also apply to the installation of the corridor cars.
As far as corridor cars go - as we 'work up' to releasing "Black Country - LNWR 1920", the available LNWR corridor cars Trainset will comprise a set of 9 mixed arc and cove roof cars from me (just released as Corridor cars V3), a batch of elliptical roof cars to come from Alec, and a few of Darwin's LMS ex-LNWR cars repainted back to LNWR livery.
The area covered by Black Country was primarily served by non-corridor suburban and Inter-District sets, so we are concentrating on using Alec's enormous range of non-corridors, plus this smaller selection of corridors to run up and down the WCML and the Stafford / Wolverhampton / Birmingham corridor for the expresses.
Regards, Brian

Re: LNWR Stock
Hi Guys,
My original LNWR Passenger Tank Locos pack has now been updated to Version 1.1 - the four locos are now aliased to Darwin Smith's excellent new LNWR cabview sets - and the Headout view has been adjusted to Left Hand Drive.
Regards, Brian
PS - forgot to mention the V1.1 update is only available on UKTS for the moment, as I can't get hold of Justin to update the files in 'his' dropbox folder.

Re: LNWR Stock
Hi Guys,
I've had a report that the LNWR Precedent 2-4-0 does not work correctly in MSTS - the side rods do not revolve with the wheels.
I've checked this out - and the report is right - the side rods do NOT revolve with the wheels in MSTS.
I am absolutely baffled by this - the rods revolve CORRECTLY in TSM, the rods revolve CORRECTLY in Shape File Viewer, the rods revolve CORRECTLY in Open Rails, but for some unexplained reason they will NOT revolve in MSTS.
I reopened TSM, re-checked all the settings, the rods are correctly named and correctly referenced to Main, the animation works correctly in TSM. So, I exported the model again - same result - rods revolve in TSM, SFM and OR, but not in MSTS. I built the Renown and GeorgeV at the same time using the same techniques, and they work CORRECTLY in all mediums. Over the last ten years or so, I've build well over 150 locos (mostly NSWGR prototypes) all using the same method, and every one of them works correctly, except for the Precedent. I've now exhausted all my knowledge of making loocs in TSM, and can't find a solution.
So, if you are using Minotaur in MSTS, sorry, you'll have to put up with the non-revolving roads - in Open Rails it is 'business as usual'. If ever I find a solution, I'll issue a 'patch' with the replacement shape file.

Problem fixed - a simple mistake - the side rods were rod1 and rod2 instead of rod01 and rod02.
V1.1 issued - corrected the Precedent side rods - also some extra tweaking to braking parameters in all .eng files.

That's a total of 12 new LNWR locos - no more from me.
Now that the rolling stock situation has been addressed, I can get back to finishing the 'Black Country - LNWR 1920' route.

That's a total of 12 new LNWR locos - no more from me.
Now that the rolling stock situation has been addressed, I can get back to finishing the 'Black Country - LNWR 1920' route.

"Any railway that paints their locomotives such a magnificent shade of red, must be the most superior in the land" (apologies to the late David Jenkinson).
