Route mileage
Hi all.
Just a quick one (I hope) How do you find out the mileage of a route that does not have that info in the readme?
Thanks

The only utility on Trainsim that might be useful for measuring distance is the following link

Re: Route mileage
I have just ran the "MT Irish enterprise V2, Belfast - Dublin" route through the MSTSMiles program, here are the results..............
MT's stated route length:- Main Line Length = 120 Miles. Branches 26 Miles
MSTSMiles result:- 280.88153519 (total track) miles.

Re: Route mileage
That's interesting; but I assume that if you have double tracks then the approximate length might be nearer to 140?

Re: Route mileage
You can make an activity with a path from one end of the route to the other.
Tick the last station and when you run it it will tell you the distance to next station.
I've just tried it with Worth Valley and the distance from Bradford to Keighley is 15.02 miles.

Re: Route mileage
I believe the route mileage utility does do double track as double.
Thus the 4 miles between Waterloo & Clapham Junction would come up as at least 32 miles.
Ian's suggestion is good; but how do you work it out for a network such as Dorset Coast? I'd suggest possibly doing it in stages (i.e. Waterloo - Basingstoke, Basingstoke - Salisbury, Basingstoke - Eastleigh, Salisbury - Eastleigh etc), but that could take some time.

Truth is rarely pure, and never simple.

All we can do is to give a reasonable estimate, because in general routes tend to "sell" themselves by the variety of industry, etc., which allows a corresponding variety of activities to be developed.
If it's going to involve a significant amount of work, in the first instance that part of the directory could be annotated as as either TBC or In Abeyance - and that is my approach so far.
My understanding of the utility that I noted above is that it measures the length of the track laid, and will also list the track used.

Same with Glas-Car. It's not a typical A-B route, but more of a network. For the route directory Alec is doing, I just used a utility he pointed me towards. It came up with 480 miles, but I would guess the track mileage in the way we look at it would be closer to 200 miles.

Re: Route mileage
I just do a route explore,if it starts at mp1 (for eg London)just start from the other end and check the first mileage post from that end ,of course secondary routes off it need to be taken into account also.
