“The Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway is one of the few survivors of 2 foot gauge light railways in the UK. The line was opened in 1919 to carry sand to/from the many quarries which used to exist along the route and to regular passenger usage until 1968, when the line was finally shut. The line was soon re-opened by a handful of volunteers and is now one of the principal narrow gauge heritage lines in England. The line runs from Page's Park, situated in a large recreational playing field in the south of the town, to Stonehenge Works, site of a former quarry depot and the northern terminus of the line. The track is 3 miles long and consists of many tight turns, steep banks and an important passing loop located in Leedon, on the eastern side of the town.”
