Route Description =
An MSTS route available to download as noted above.
Activities and relevant stock are available from the UKTS library.
“The route is based on the GWR South Wales main line between Swansea and Carmarthen. The route is 32 miles long in total and is based on how the line is today. It includes re-opening Cockett Station, totally re-building Lloughor Station and also includes restored sidings that were once present at Burry Port and Carmarthen.
The route is typical of lines in South Wales, being rather twisty in places with very few high speed stretches. The line today sees mainly passenger services although it still sees goods traffic from time to time. Once upon a time it would have been very busy with goods, to and from Swansea Docks, coal from the mines in the Valleys, steel traffic between Port Talbot, Velindre (now closed), Trostre and Pontarddulais works. Added to which there would have been farm produce from the west. There would have also have been tankers to and from the Oil refineries at BP Llandarcy (now closed) and Milford Haven.”
