Pausing through an Activity
Hi all,
I am currently getting my way through an Activity and have noticed that any time I pause it and go to look at emails or whatever it may be that MSTS stops responding once I go back to it and hit the escape key to carry on. Does anyone know what the cause of this may be please?
Many Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,
Just a thought, which has caught me out before!
Assuming you are running MSTS in a window while checking emails, etc., if the upper border of the MSTS screen is grey, it won't respond - click anywhere on the MSTS screen to get it back (usually to blue), then ESC should work.
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,
I haven't forgotten about you. Just had to try and resolve some issues I was having. Also been doing some voluntary work. I made some changes this evening and been meaning to post this pain in the neck issue. I will give your idea a go and see what happens....

Hi Andy,
No problem, just get in touch when you're ready
Meanwhile, your current problem seems a little more complicated than I thought, but it's worth a try!!

Ged

Hi Ged,
I gave your idea a go and I even tried it with just pausing In-Game and not going off to do other things such as checking emails and still the same issue.
Cheers

Hi Andy,
That's odd
You press ESC to pause the sim; doesn't it resume if you press ESC again?
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,
No it didn't... Not sure, but I think I may have found the problem. It was with Double quotes in some of the coaching stock having the following on the line of some of the .wag files when checking all errors with Route Riter. Checking missing sounds. Here is an example of the errors; Sound (" "GenPassWagSteam.sms")
I will check it again by going away for a while and coming back to see if I have fixed the issue...
Cheers
Andy
Re: Pausing through an Activity
Andy,
Instead of hitting Esc to pause MSTS, what I do (I'm not running MSTS in a window) is hit the Windows key (the one between the Ctrl and Alt keys on the bottom left of my keyboard). That minimizes MSTS to the task bar. Restoring it again hasn't given me any problems.
(I've seen that double quotes issue a few times lately.)
Bob.

Thanks for the reply Bob.
Do you or anyone else what or why the Double Quotation marks appear?
Thanks
Andy
Re: Pausing through an Activity
I'm pretty sure they must be put there by the author of the stock. As a guess, it could be that the original was Sound (" (no space between the ( and the ") and the text editor or whatever the author is using to change Sound aliases adds the extra ".

Hi Andy,
If you could give an example of an item of stock with the double quotes, we could check it out!
Cheers,
Ged

Hi Ged,
One of the Double Quotes item of stock in the Trainset directory (Which I have since fixed) was BA_Mk1_Coaches\BA_Mk1_BG_B&C.wag
There were others, but again I have since sorted.
Cheers

Re: Pausing through an Activity
Hi Andy,
Thanks for the example. I've just checked my SVR (I assume that's what you're referring to!) and the specified coach has this entry :
Sound ( "GenPassWagSteam.sms" )
There are 13 spaces between ( and "G, but don't show when displayed in this post!
This makes me think, with respect, that some processing has been done (either manually or electronically via software) on your TRAINSET folder and may have introduced this error.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Pausing through an Activity
I also found the double quotes error and corrected it.
However it does not cause problems as the sim does not find a wav file between the quotes and ignores the rest of the line.
It just means the coach has no sound.
The pause problem is well known. Best to use F2 Save.
That way if it crashes you can restart from where you were.
