Rimini to San Marino

Morning all, So here I am  with another Retro Route (I just love them) But I do have a couple of questions.


1)  I believe I have followed the Instructions to the best of my ability and (to be fair it runs nicely) but only the Narrow Gauge  Tracks show up,
    as in the picture?
2)  Having read (but not understood) the Instructions does this Route have to be kept completely separate to any other (as the Bernina Bahn does) ?

I hope that makes some sort of sense. Neanderthal

My installation of the route is in a directory called "TrainSimRSM" (see the "ReadMe") separate from my other routes and I have both the narrow gauge tracks and the standard gauge tracks. I installed the route two years ago so I can't remember every step but it was somewhat tricky.

That looks to be an interesting route but I can't find where to download it!

Google only gives a link to a Trainsimhobby Forum, After clicking the 'download area' button, I checked all the MSTS and Open Rails routes without success!

Any hints would be helpful

I have now downloaded and installed the route.

It seems to have a very odd installation procedure and, although I haven't got very far, several 'Static' track section .s and .sd files appear to be missing.
That probably explains why Roger is missing some tracks. Has a patch been released, or have I missed something?

My initial tests are with MSTS - if Roger is running with Open Rails only, then the log should show those missing files.

Hi neanderthal, hi Ged,

I found the missing static track shapes listed in neanderthal's Open Rails log file on my computer. I really can't remember where they came from. They are definitely not in the route as downloaded from Ildeposito. I have zipped them up for you (see attachment). The files go into "...\TrainSimRSM\Global\Shapes". This should take care of the missing standard gauge tracks.

Thank you Uli that appears to to have sorted the Tracks out, Ged of course is correct that I now only run in OR.
I did get the Route from(the deposit) INDEPOSITO but wasn't sure whether to download it as I keep getting warned off
by my Browser (telling me that the Files cannot be loaded securely). I may however risk getting the Parenzana Route.
But hey, I'd have to build myself up to risk it     Neanderthal

I thought I'd posted an earlier reply to Uli's upload, but it seems that age is getting to me, and I didn't.

Thanks, Uli for the files - MSTS now loads without any problem and Open Rails no longer shows those files as missing.

OR reports some missing sound files - those are to be found in the MSTS default 380 steam loco.

Another 'oddity' is that, in OR, some of the narrow gauge rails are displayed in a silvery colour while the remainder are in a mid-grey.  While MSTS does show the rails in different colours, the contrast is much less than in OR.  .

It could be due to a .sd file setting, but I'm investigating!

EDIT : Well, I've no answer! Adjacent tracks which are displaying differently use the same .sd and texture files. Strangely, in snow conditions, all tracks appear to be the same colour.

The reason for this oddity might be that some (only a few) of the narrow gauge track .s files have set the texture property for the rail texture to "HiShine" while most have set it to "Normal". I found at least two straight track shapes with the "HiShine" property.

I have to add that the colour difference is not really obvious on my copy of the RSM route but I am using a different "Ncleantrack2.ace" than the original one. Then all you have to do is click on the text DOWNLOAD SCENARIO V. 1.0, 180 Mb.

It is at the bottom of the page written in large green letters.

This downloads a file with an executable that does everything for you. The buttons on the executable are in Italian but have the usual function. When you get to an input box it just wants to know where to install it.

One thing that is not obvious, the P7 cabview (which is a really nice one, it has been upgraded for this version) needs to have the MSTS version of the 380 loco installed, otherwise the needles on the dials don't show. To install, go to your msts installation, go to TRAINS\TRAINSET, locate the 380 folder, and copy it to the TRAINSET folder of wherever you have your Parenzana route installed. Just shout if it gives you any problems. If you like mountain railways you'll like this one! The track goes from sea level at Trieste, then rises to 285 m at Grisignano, drops to 13 m at Bagni di San Stefano - Levade, then you do it all again rising to 273 m at Baldassi, then dropping to sea level at Parenzo.

And a quick note - The Il Deposito site has the Version 1.0 of 2008, it would appear, yet the documentation mentions Open rails, which only arrived after Version 1.0.
TranSimHobby.net has two versions, Version 1.0 of 2008 and another Version (Version Number not known) dated 5/9/2022. It looks to me as if the il deposito version is really the new version, but might be the old, but in any event I've downloaded the TrainSimHobby version and I'll compare the two then let you know. If you want to hold off downloading from il deposito for a day no worries, but you wouldn't lose anything by installing it. But I'm hoping the TrainSimHobby might be a better version.

PS I downloaded the files, in RAR format, and since I don't have WinRAR i unzipped them with 7-Zip. This resulted in 7Zip falling over one file in each archive, so I'll get WinRAR and change again. It isn't a big problem in each case I can replace the file from the Il Deposito download. The pdf file of the route description is the same in both downloads. The TSHobby files are dated 27/08/22 - more investigation needed.

@Tony :  The single .rar file version from Il Deposito is exactly the same as the 10-file download from trainsimhobby - the .trk file is dated 6 Sept 2008 (or is it 9 June 2008??!!).
You shouldn't be using 7Zip or WinRAR for unpacking the 10-file version!  It's a self-extracting archive - just run the Parenzana.part01.exe file (might need running 'as administrator') and it'll unpack all of them to create a new .exe file.
