LYR-Heartland-1920 fails to start
Following a lengthy period of getting all the sounds and cabviews in place for this route, and having to re-save the outdated activity HolcombeBrkElectric I once again started up MSTS for this activity.
It got to the stage where it reported Initialization and Loading complete, and then hung there with the loading bar just short of the RH edge for a short while and then reverted back to Train Store. So the obvious question what have I either NOT done or done incorrectly.
I then tried it in Open Rails where it too failed to open giving the report as illustrated in the attached screen grab. This report means absolutely nothing to me so if there's anyone who can translate it and show me what I need to do I'd be most grateful.

Hi Alec,
It may not have anything to do with your problem, but you are using a very old version of Open Rails! May I suggest that you at least install the current stable version, 1.3.1?
Cheers,
Ged

Thanks for the suggestion and I'll root out the recommended Open Rails version.

As an aside has anyone else been able to start Version 3?

Recommended version of Open Rails installed and the same report appeared. Other routes are working.

Re: LYR-Heartland-1920 fails to start
Hi Alec,
I've just installed the route into an installation which already had several routes installed. L&Y runs without any problem in both MSTS and Open Rails. A few 'Warnings' are issued by OR, most referring to a missing turntable.sms file - loading is not affected.
The only testing I did was in Explore mode with a Class 50 default consist. There's no readme to indicate if any 'extras' are required, but my installation already contains XTracks, UKFS and NewRoads.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: LYR-Heartland-1920 fails to start
I have just run an explore using an MT Class 11 and MSTS worked fine. It would therefore suggest that the activity I tried to run was not right through some fault of my own. Further research is needed.

Re: LYR-Heartland-1920 fails to start
I have just completed a further series of checks, which annoyingly picked up some errors.
These were corrected and Route Riter shows everything to be correct.
However I cannot get any of the three activities for this route to work in MSTS.
I can get trains to run in Explore Mode.
I shall check with Open Rails sometime tomorrow but suspect that the activities will not work here either?
Has anyone tried the activities and got them to work?
I'm at a loss as to what the problem can be; presumably Version 3.0 does not require either Versions 1.0 or 2.0 to have already been installed?
Bearing in mind that I have not been particularly active with MSTS it is highly likely that I have made potentially "silly" mistakes!!!

There is a very extensive Readme contained in the Activity Support Information Folder, which also addresses the 'missing' turntable.sms file

Re: LYR-Heartland-1920 fails to start
Hi Brian,
My apologies
I didn't mean to imply there was no readme! It turns out that I completely by-passed the first red paragraph, being drawn to the bigger red paragraphs further down the page - well, that's my excuse! Sorry.
Cheers,
Ged

Re: LYR-Heartland-1920 fails to start
My latest attempts to get the activities to work involved installing UKTS38357 - turntable data for Open Rails. This enabled all three activities to run in Open Rails and Railmotor activity to work in MSTS. WiganStopper activity reported that LNWR_30ft1in_PSC_D419_9609 couldn't be added (uid 200310). BuryElectric activity wouldn't start at all and just returned to Train Store as described in the first post.

Re: LYR-Heartland-1920 fails to start
This is my last post on this subject, although it is a repeat of a question that I raised in my post dated Tuesday December 10th at 11:15pm.
Has anyone tried the activities and got them to work in MSTS?
Should there be no reply I'll assume the answer is NO and that everyone is now using Open Rails!

Hi Alec,
I, for one, am still using MSTS, but am involved in a couple of other projects at the moment so have not been able to check on the activities yet!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: LYR-Heartland-1920 fails to start
Hi Alec.
I am able to run the first two activities in MSTS (at least start them and let them run for 30 seconds or so) - HolcombeBrkElectric and RadcliffeRailmotor. However I cannot run WiganStopper - it comes up with a "fail to load" message which refers to different stock each time I try to run it, First LYR_Wagon_D039_Van_Refrig_CE, then lnwr_prince_of_wales, etc.
If you can't run any of them I would suggest running the activities through MSTS-Activity-Analysis or Conbuilder to check the stock referred to in the activities. I know Brian has non-original folder/file combinations in some of his activities. I've used MSTS-Activity-Analysis to change the activities back to the original combinations.
I suspect WiganStopper might be using some ORTS-only stock that isn't compatible with MSTS. I haven't managed to track that down so far.
Warm regards,
Bob.

Hi there Bob
Many thanks for the reply, which is much appreciated. From your reply it would appear that I need to come at this from a different angle as you have suggested.
I trust that you and your family are all well and that you have not been affected by the tragedy on White Island.
Regards, Alec

Hi Alec.
Thanks for the thoughts. We are fine and just moving into summer.
No direct effect from the White Island tragedy. Just an incredible sadness for the people that were affected and their families and perhaps a bit of guilt in that we, as a country, may have let them down with inadequate safety measures.
Bob.

Re: LYR-Heartland-1920 fails to start
Hi guys,
I'm not in a position to answer route/stock problems for a little while yet - I've just spent over a week in hospital - I got a total blood clot behind my left leg, with no blood flow to the lower leg. My Vascular Surgeon whipped me straight into hospital - although I came home today, I've got to lay low convalescing for the next few weeks, so won't be monitoring the forums for a little while yet.
I'm very sore down the whole left leg, but can just hobble about to get to the toilet, etc - but essentially, I have to keep off my feet for a few weeks, and NOT sit at my PC with my legs dangling down !
Regards, Brian

Hi Brian
Sorry to hear of your travails, and I hope that with the required period of rest you'll soon be up and running so to speak.
Take care and all the best for Christmas, Alec
