Triggering events in activities
I would like to be able to create activities where I trigger events when the train I am driving passes a certain point, such as another train starting as I approach a station. However, I can find no explanation of how Location Events, which I assume set this up, work or can be created. Perhaps I am being thick, but the process does not seem to be at all intuitive.
Can one of the experts kindly point me in the right direction please?
If I have misunderstood the purpose of Location events, Action events etc, I apologise.

Re: Triggering events in activities
Hi Jonathan,
I'm pretty certain that the events in an activity can't start another train, but I stand to be corrected
If you don't already have it, may I suggest that you purchase Rich Garber's Activity Tutorial from allaboardrails.com; it's well worth the modest asking price!
Cheers,
Ged

Re: Triggering events in activities
Hi Jonathan,
Location events... This places a point (the size of which can be altered) on the track, which triggers an event when the player loco reaches that point (which is invisible in the actual sim, but shows up in AE). Typical events are to display a message, or to end the activity.
Action events... This creates an event such as reaching a specific speed (display a message or 'fail' the activity etc), or picking up / dropping off cars. The latter two will show in the sim in the activity Operations Notebook under "Work Order" (F11)
Time events ... this creates an event as per location events, but instead of reaching a specific point on the track, the event is triggered at a specific time (measured from the start time of the activity)
None of the above can control the action / timings of AI traffic. This must be done using the 'Traffic Pattern' controls within AE.
Hope this helps

Re: Triggering events in activities
Many thanks for the responses. The kind of function I was thinking might have existed would be useful in freight activities when there is no fixed timetable, but it is not a big issue.
