“This is a representation of the Lyme Regis branch line, which is a 6¾ mile branch line in the south west.
The 6¾ mile branch was opened in 1903 to connect the small coastal resort of Lyme Regis with Axminster, which is located on the LSWR main line between Salisbury and Exeter. The branch was operated from inception by the LSWR followed by its successors the Southern Railway (1923-1948) and British Rail (from 1948). Goods services were withdrawn in 1964 and passenger services ceased in November 1965.
The Lyme Regis MSTS route depicts the branch as it appeared in later SR and BR days. However, for additional operational interest, the route includes a spur from the goods yard to the branch (closed in 1915) and the passing loop and signal box at Combpyne (taken out of use in 1930).”
