Hi,

Trying to install the UK AWS from UKTS (file 39793), for once I have read the readme, I think I've done it right but I was struggling to believe the files had to go in a routes\trains\trainset folder - and sure enough, it doesn't work. I've followed the PDF file's instructions on how to install it to a unit, and am now out of ideas. I'll put the lines I've added to the .eng file in this thread if that's the only thing that could be wrong.

Idea - would it work if I just copied the lines that come with the class 317 3d cab into the .eng file?

Many thanks.

Hi,
Please reread the instructions and ensure that you've done everything exactly as stated - do not guess or suppose anything!.
The TRAINSET folder is the only logical place for the AWS folder - it certainly WILL NOT work anywhere else.

Which version of Open Rails are you running?

Caveat : I have only read the instruction - not actually added this option to any loco  (yet!).

Cheers,
Ged

It's in the trainset folder, the readme says it has to be in the trains/trainset folder INSIDE the route, sorry if I wasn't clear about that. I'm very confused by this. Are any modifications needed to (e.g.) the .trk file?

Thanks again

Version is stable 1.4. These are the exact words from the readme:

Place the AWS folder into the /TRAINS/Trainset/ folder of any route where AWS was installed.

Hi,
The TRAINSET folder is NEVER inside a route!!  I suggest you re-read that section Smile

An installation can have several routes, but only one TRAINS folder which contains subfolders CONSISTS and TRAINSET.

Cheers,
Ged

IT WORKS: I had the wrong brake setting. I thought from the .eng file I had to use the air braked version, when in fact it was EP.

Thanks for all of your help.

Hi Roger,
I've already tried to reply!  I'm sure you'd included a screenshot, but now it's disappeared!!  I don't know if it's something I did, or you've re-posted without it.
It showed something I didn't understand, however :

In Open Rails, you have an installation folder, which may have any name you like.  This is the ROOT folder.
In the ROOT folder you will have subfolders GLOBAL, ROUTES, SOUND, TRAINS and, probably, UTILS
The ROUTES folder will contain one or more route subfolders
There will be only one TRAINS subfolder in a ROOT folder, which will contain CONSISTS and TRAINSETS subfolders

If your MEP works, then I'm sure you do not have a problem, but would like to see that screenshot again because it didn't look right.

Cheers,
Ged

Hello Ged the reason it was altered was because I had written "Mid East Plus" when I meant "Mid East Coast"
.
OR AWS from UKTS Mec10

It is very likely that I have D/L it incorrectly which is quite normal for me. Only Yesterday I  messed up while trying to put some  Stock into use.
So I am slowly but surely deleting Routes that have stock problems , hence my previous comment about "Missing Engines"
Mid East Coast appears to be running fine though without any activities apart from what came with it.....Thanks for your interest,  most appreciated .. Roger

Sorry for the confusion.

Perhaps there is a better way to explain what is meant. Maybe it should be "installation" folder. Most of my routes are installed individually as "mini-routes" so that within the folder for each "Route" I have the sub folders Global, Routes, Sound and Trains.

So if I want to install AWS to Thames Mersey Modern then I go to OR > ThamesMerseyModern > Trains > Trainset to install.

In such a way routes have different rolling stock, different track systems, different default sounds and may use different tsection files and so on.

I can put AWS on ThamesMerseyModern but not on say Huddersfield 1930s in this way.

In a few cases there are a group of routes that use a lot of similar stock so these are together such as Far North, Highland Main Line and West Highland in BR days. Otherwise I tend to have only one "Route" in the "ROUTES" folder for each case.

Hi Roger,
Thanks for reposting the screenshot Smile

What I saw was a folder named TRAINS within the MidEastCoast route folder.  To clarify, this is the folder containing Activities, Paths, Services and Traffic subfolders.  TRAINS in the same folder will serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever (except, maybe, as a backup!).  Neither MSTS nor Open Rails will read any data from a TRAINS folder in such a location. Also, I'm pretty certain that the GLOBAL subfolder you also have in the MidEastCoast route folder. will not be read.

The correct location for TRAINS in your setup will be in folder Open Rails - MidEast Coast. This is what I would call the root folder, ie everything else 'grows' from it!

However, as you say that the route runs OK, I'm sure you've also got the 'proper' GLOBAL and TRAINS subfolders in the root folder.

Cheers,
Ged

Hi again,

Having successfully got AWS working in several units, I can't seem to figure out how to release the brakes after an emergency application. This isn't in the readme. How do I do this? I've tried Ctrl+M, Z, Shift+Back and Shift+/.

Many thanks.

From memory it should not be that difficult.

For older types of AWS then I think that just releasing with the semi-colon in the normal way should work, although you may have to press Z first.

For newer versions they can not be released until the train has come to a complete stand. (Not sure if there is also a time delay on some!)

Normally on the Options > General tab I tick Alerter in cab but do not tick alerter also in external views. (I don't want to be responding to alarms when watching the scenery!)

If you want to see in a bit more detail what is happening to the brakes then you can press Alt+F5 and then Alt+Shift+F5 three times. This might show for example if you are waiting for air pressure to build up.

As per instructions make sure you have deleted all the old "Monitor" section entries from any old MSTS file as they might interfere with correct operation.

For more advice you will need to post (a) a copy of the eng file for the loco concerned (so we can see how the brakes are set up and which version of AWS it is using).

OR AWS from UKTS Empty Re: OR AWS from UKTS

I was coming up to a double yellow in an external view, jump back in the cab, train is slowing to a stop with the AWS horn going and then I lost all control. Z does nothing, when I release the brakes using the semicolon the power controller comes back into the release position but the F5 view still shows TCS Full Service, 65 psi, and I also tried Alt+E, Shift+/, Shift+Back and D.

I have exactly the same problem with a train with those settings running in v1.4

Also another problem that the AWS does not seem to function at all in the latest unstable version that I have loaded.

This is a bug, it is not a problem with your driving or your train.

Give me a few days to see which trains have the problem, which brake types have the problem, which types of AWS have this problem and which versions of OR are giving the problems. (You can test some other trains and other types of AWS and report back here if you want.)

When I understand the problem better it made need even more days to find someone that can fix it.

Ok. Thank you very much!

Does it need to be logged on the bug tracker?

Maybe.

I first need to find out more about the problem.

If the problem is with the AWS script or ini files then it is not a bug tracker issue.

If the problem is with the actual OpenRails code then it is a bug tracker issue.

Problem found.

It is a bug. I don't know how long it has been around. It only affects stock with EP brakes and only when that stock is using the EP versions of the AWS.

Two possible temporary solutions are:

Change

ORTSTrainControlSystemParameters( "..\\..\\AWS\\SCRIPT\\TCS_AWS_UK_TPWS_EP.ini" )

to

ORTSTrainControlSystemParameters( "..\\..\\AWS\\SCRIPT\\TCS_AWS_UK_TPWS_AB.ini" )

in your eng file

or alternatively go to the AWS > Script folder and open the TCS_AWS_UK_TPWS_EP.ini (and any other ... _EP.ini files you may be using) find the line that says TrainStopBeforeRelease=true and change this to TrainStopBeforeRelease=false
