Setting permissions on Vista/Windows7, 8.1 & 10 Empty Setting permissions on Vista/Windows7, 8.1 & 10

Many people experience problems when installing MSTS onto a Vista/Windows7 and above machine, this is because of "permissions problems" caused by the security measures built into Windows Vista and above.

The best way to avoid this is to use the Steam4me tutorial on how to install MSTS into Vista/Windows 7 and above, The tutorial is available here

If you have already installed MSTS into program files/program files(x86) and don't want to install it all over again, an easy fix is to set your permissions and run as administrator as shown below .....

To Give yourself full permissions over your MSTS folder and its contents:-

Open up Microsoft Games, right click on your "train simulator" folder, select "properties" then select the "security" tab in the properties box, then the "edit" button, that will open a new edit box, select your "username" and click on (tick) the full control box under allow, and all the other boxes will become ticked as well, except "special permissions", (leave that one blank), check your "administrator account username" (if different) to make sure that has full permissions as well, then click on "apply", then "apply" again on the properties box, to save the changes, then click "OK" to exit (If you get another dialogue box to ask if you want to apply it to all subfolders and files, click "yes").

To set a program to run as administrator:-

Right click the desktop icon for "MSTS" and open properties, click on the advanced button to open the dialogue box, check (tick) the "run as administrator" box, click "OK" to exit the edit box, then "apply" on the properties box to save, "OK" to exit, do the same with "Editors & Tools, Trainstore, Route riter, Conbuilder, Convoi" and any other MSTS apps you have installed.

It's as simple as that, MSTS will now run on Vista, Windows 7 and above much the same as it did on XP, without all the annoying glitches and problems caused by permissions.

A big thank you to Ged (Slipperman12) for testing the above procedures on windows 8.1 and and windows 10.

Mark

Hi Mark,

Good to know someone else is helping out with tutorials.

Tutorial now updated to include windows 8.1 and windows 10, which is pretty much the same as it was for Vista and windows 7.

Thanks to Ged (Slipperman12) for testing the above procedure on the newer versions of windows. OK
