“This is Version 2.5 of the GWR route from Paddington to Penzance, which existed circa 1945-1950. The mainline has both the Cogload Junction to Reading via Castle Cary route and the other route via Bristol. All signals are lower quadrant, there are working coaling towers, water towers, diesel pumps and a lot more branches and stations than exist today. All stations, gradients and most bridges, tunnels, viaducts and branch lines are present; however the scenery for the route is very far from complete. The problem is that to provide scenery for a route of this size (1383 track miles) would take many years. Therefore the strategy was to provide a route that is reasonably accurate with respect to track location and elevation together with all the basic scenery; e.g. hills, valleys, rivers, coastline, stations, bridges, tunnels, etc. In addition to basic scenery, the route incorporates many of the characteristic features of the route - St Michaels Mount, China Clay facilities, Tamar Bridge, Swindon Works, Bristol Temple Meads, etc., and some unusual things like the Meldon Viaduct and the Munitions Storage facility under the Box Tunnel.”
