Use of Version 1.0
Version 1.0 has been released and I congratulate the team on the marvellous job they have done.
With Version 1.0's release, this was the time I had planned to move exclusively from my general MSTS use to using Open Rails. By “general” I mean running and testing of activities and stock but not activity writing or route building. I also planned at this point to use my RailDriver unit.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, there are still a few outstanding issues which will cause me to delay this for the moment. These are:
1. Lack of activity evaluations.
2. Water troughs not being functional.
3. A SPAD does not cause an activity to terminate.
4. Several “cheats” in place particularly in fuel usage.
5. Confusion over the compatibility of RailDriver and running steam locomotives.
What are other members opinion on this? Remember that I am talking as an activity user, not a content creator.

Hi David,
Speaking only as an activity user I much prefer using OR when possible.
As far as your issues are concerned:-
1 Yes, an activity evaluation would be an advantage
2 Hopefully they will be soon
3 A SPAD does result in an emergency stop effectively ending the activity - it does give you the opportunity to recover and take your train to the next suitable place for a replacement driver to take over ( as can happen in the real world ). This is something which might be possible in the future.
4 This is something that I wasn't aware of.
5 Can't comment as I don't have raildriver.
Hope that this is of use to you,
Stephen

Re: Use of Version 1.0
Hi all,
Personally for me... Until such times that you are able to create acts and routes with OR, then it needs to be MSTS currently! There are some things in OR that don't seem to work properly as they appear in MSTS...(Such as trees on the line!) You hear about Leaves on the line; but this is a new one on me unless it is based on the Railway Children! (Tongue in cheek!)
But I do have an Act in the pipeline and will test in OR as well...
Cheers
Andy

Re: Use of Version 1.0
Andy, the "trees on the line" issue does appear to be resolved.

David,
I will test that on Dorset Coast and come back to you.... The last time I was told this was resolved; it wasn't.

Andy, do you have a result from the test?

Re: Use of Version 1.0
Andy, I will follow up with the Open Rails bug report. Can you email me the screen shots (or give me a link where they can be downloaded). Can you also please give me a location reference on the route where that are taken.

Hi David,
If you right click on each of the pictures you should beable to right click on each of them and save them to your desktop.
This is the Dorset Coast Route and just after leaving Brockenhurst.
Hope this helps. Also to let you know that I am running Open Rails Version 1.0.1.3095
Many Thanks
Andy

This is the answer I have received from the OR team:
It is regarded technically as a bug with the content (route), but I do understand it's more problematic for some routes than others. We may yet come back to something that keeps the right-of-way clear (it may have a use in OR-format content too as a more general tool) but for now there isn't a good enough implementation.

dforrest wrote:Andy, in which direction from Brockenhurst?
I think it's immediately west of Brockenhurst station with the single line being the branch for Lymington.

It is indeed Niall.
Going by the reply, it doesn't sound as though anything is going to be done anytime soon?
