TSModeler Empty TSModeler

Post  35005CP Thu 16 May 2013, 8:41 pm

Hi all,
As you all may or may not be aware I am modelling A Hastings DEMU. I have just added a couple of new textures into a BMP (Bitmap) file and saved it and when going back into TSM I noticed that the 2 sides were skewed and showing 2 different textures. I tried going into the Texture properties to set it right, but it is now coming up with the following error in the Part Texture Properties;

TSModeler Tsm_er10

May seem an odd-ball error, but I hope someone can please point me in what I need to do to set this correctly?
Thanks
Andy

Andy, this isn't an oddball error but a fact - TSM only accepts textures in those sizes. Make sure your textures are in one of these sizes. Incidentally you don't need to keep to the same size in any model, TSM accepts a mixture. e.g textures of 256x256 and 512x512 could be used in the same model.

Hi Danny,
I have restored a backup of the BMP Files for now. So is this all it can handle as I noticed it is showing 419x512.. So obviously I need to force it to 512x512? so how do I go about doing this?
Thanks
Andy

:EDIT: Very Strange, I've gone to create a new Bitmap file using paint and copy some textures from another texture BMP file and saved it as 1024x1024 and it is working as it should. It is obviously because I have reached the end of the 1024x1024 page size?

Andy, I couldn't follow your explanation for the problem. However I will say that you should start with a blank square file page of size 256x256 ,512x512, etc pixels. Within that page your texture ( or several textures) can be any size or shape.

It might help to look at the .ace files within completed models to give you a guide.

Hi David,
That's the $64,000 question!!
Since Abacus ceased selling any MSTS products, it has been very difficult!
Checking today, at 14:30, revealed the following :-
Amazon.co.uk has two used copied from £9.99 each
Amazon.com has two new copies from $61.46 (!!) and one "open box" at $20.00

Cheers,
Ged

As Abacus have discontinued selling it, one would hope that they would allow it be freely available to the community.

Ah David, if only!

I've bought a S/H copy via Amazon, and I hope it's OK! I'm then looking to start with Hawksworth coaches.

Hi David,
As Abacus have discontinued selling it, one would hope that they would allow it be freely available to the community.
This was the first suggestion I put to Abacus, but they rejected it saying that it wasn't their's to make available, but the individual authors (I also covered the Route Building Guide by Michael Vone and Rich Gerber's Activity manual). I've had contact from Rich and Michael to the effect that they might consider making their respective publications available, but up until today, I didn't know the author of TSM. Then I looked at the manual - Shocked Shocked The author's name is shown as Louis Sinclair, with help being provided by Stewart Clark, Mat Peddlesden, Pete Peddlesden, Mark Branscum and Jason Webb. Obviously, Louis is the key man here, so if anyone is able to contact him, it may help with making TSM available again.

Cheers,
Ged

David
Before going for the S/H disc purchase via Amazon, I searched over a large area of the web and did not come across anywhere where a download version could be obtained.

I think Abacus was the only legal source of TSM downloads, so it would seem that the used discs offered on the Amazon marketplace, ebay etc. is the only way to obtain it.

I originally bought my hard copy years ago in Game, HMV, or a department stores software section, it is highly unlikely that any of these would still have any new copies left.

If you get a V1 disk, a quick google search will flag up some V1.1 updates on some software/game download sites, as it was offered as a free upgrade (no longer available on the abacus website) and you still need your original registration key to install it, there should be no (legal) problem in obtaining the update from third party websites.

Hi,
If you're still looking for a copy of TSM, Ben Vincer has posted this on UKTS :
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=238&t=132285#p1642851

I don't know how many he's got, but they're a lot cheaper than they were at Abacus!!

Cheers,
Ged

I'm unable to locate the TSM v1.1 download. Alec has asked a question elsewhere and (Not thinking - having forgot) the link is dead! Anyone know where you can get it?

Hi Andy,
Following on from Mark's post - By Googling, you get several links purporting to have the v1.1 update which end up with nothing, or worse, you get some torrent sites, which, in the main, should be avoided! Others link back to the Abacus site, which it of not much use!
The following link seems to be OK - I have downloaded it with no bad effects! :

Hi Ged

That was the site I found it on, but wasn't sure about the legality of it so I didn't post the link, (though it does seem to be legit, so will leave it there till (when/if) someone tells us different).

Hi Mark & Mike,
The site seems quite legitimate, according to this report : http://www.scamadviser.com/is-fileplanet.com-a-fake-site.html

Also, it appears to be owned by IGN Entertainment, which, in turn, is owned by FOX, although I notice it's not been updated for some time and is being archived.

Cheers,
Ged
