“This route is a depiction of the Foxfield Railway in the 1950's. Six-coupled saddle and side tank engines would haul up to 8 full coal wagons from the colliery to the summit up the 1in19, where they would be assembled into rake of 20-30 wagons for the trip down to the exchange sidings or the landsale yard at Caverswall. Here they would be left in the sidings, and a long rake of empties would be taken up to the summit up firstly a 1in40 and then a 1in33 gradient where they would make the trip down to the colliery. This is the daily work which was carried out for many decades until 1967 when the line closed.”
